So my hubby and I decided that we wanted to start trying for another baby at the end of the summer. So as crazy as I am, I have been forcing him to discuss baby names with me. He really likes sort of trendy very cutesy names for girls. But I have been slowly transforming his taste over the last five years. but he still winces when I bring up a name like Bobbin for a girl. Lol Iām sure most people would anyway but thatās my taste. So in a recent compromise weāve decided that If we have a girl her name will be [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Winslet[/name]. [name]Marigold[/name] is a combination of our aunts [name]Mary[/name] and [name]Goldie[/name] and we will call her [name]Goldie[/name] for short. I was fighting for the middle name [name]Anais[/name] because itās a version of [name]Ann[/name] which is my momās middle name and my best friendās name. I also like the ees sound at the end because my sisters middle name is [name]Elise[/name]. But hubby thinks it sounds too much like Anus. Boo. He doesnāt like [name]Annalie[/name] either. Darn it. So we discussed honoring his grandmother [name]Winifred[/name]. But I thought [name]Marigold[/name]/ [name]Goldie[/name] already sounded old fashioned so I wanted a more Whimsical middle. And finally he liked [name]Winslet[/name]. So here we are. Anywayā¦
I think [name]Marigold[/name] is great! Never met anyone with that name⦠or a [name]Goldie[/name] for that matter. As a bonus, itās really nice with [name]Pilot[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name], too! Not a big fan of [name]Winslet[/name], but itās in the middle and if you both love it, itās great.
Iām curious how your husband is pronouncing [name]Anais[/name]. I pronounce it the French way, [name]Ann[/name]-eye-ees (with the last syllable rhymes with geese) so I would never get anus out of that. Unless heās saying it [name]Ann[/name]-ays, or just thinking of the spelling?
Awesome. I know what your saying. I was texting him [name]Anais[/name] do I donāt know if he got the pronunciation right. I honestly think he was trying to get me to go to his grandmas names which are [name]Dorothea[/name] and [name]Winifred[/name]. But I didnāt like all the d sounds. Iām glad he likes [name]Winslet[/name] though because itās my favorite of the [name]Win[/name]/[name]Wyn[/name] names.
I quite like [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Winslet[/name]. Iām not sure about the nn [name]Goldie[/name], but I do like [name]Marigold[/name]. Iām afraid Iāll have to agree with him about Bobbin, though!
I never met a [name]Marigold[/name], but I knew someone who went by [name]Goldie[/name], so that could have been her full name. She was a coworker so I wasnāt really close to her or anything.
I am getting used to [name]Marigold[/name] and I prefer the [name]Mari[/name] part to the [name]Goldie[/name] part and while I like [name]Winslet[/name] it reminds me of actress [name]Kate[/name] [name]Winslet[/name]. I would prefer [name]Marianne[/name] or [name]Mary[/name] [name]Anne[/name] [name]Winfred[/name] and that way everyone is honoured.
So out of ten [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Winslet[/name] gets a seven from me for flow and originality although its not to my taste.
I love [name]Marigold[/name] and itās actually on my list too (although DH vetoed). I would have used [name]Margo[/name] as the nn though, instead of [name]Goldie[/name]. To me, [name]Goldie[/name] is too tied to [name]Goldie[/name] Hawn but if you have another [name]Goldie[/name] in your family then obviously Ms Hawn isnāt the only thing that pops to your mind. [name]Winslet[/name] is fine in the middle (actually, if you like it, itās cute in the front too with nn [name]Winnie[/name]) and I agree with you that [name]Winifred[/name] and [name]Dorothea[/name] have too much of the D sound to go with [name]Marigold[/name]. I donāt know about flow with your last name, but [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Wynn[/name] would be cute too.
[name]Marigold[/name] sounds like a more exotic version of the flower names that seem to be coming back into fashion. I like [name]Annalie[/name], and I love [name]Anneliese[/name]. I also like [name]Winslet[/name] more than [name]Winifred[/name].
Last name is [name]Miller[/name] so it would [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Winslet[/name] [name]Miller[/name]. I like [name]Wynn[/name] for the middle too and so does hubby but I feel like [name]Winslet[/name] is less common and more pretty sounding. I donāt really mind the [name]Goldie[/name] Hawn or [name]Kate[/name] [name]Winslet[/name] references as I donāt think others her age will associate the them as much as we might. I still like [name]Anais[/name] and [name]Annalie[/name] but Iām not to fond of [name]Annelise[/name] because of a bad connection with someone. But it was considered for sure. And although I do like the name [name]Mary[/name] I feel like its a little too common to go with my boys, [name]Pilot[/name] and [name]Dexter[/name]. Iām loving all the feedback! Thanks!
You know, I really like [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Winslet[/name]. Which I wouldnāt have thought, honestly, but they go really well together. You should get the book ā[name]Magic[/name] for [name]Marigold[/name]ā by LM [name]Montgomery[/name] to read to her I really, really do not like the nickname [name]Goldie[/name], itās NMS and honestly sounds sort of like a [name]Vegas[/name] showgirl. [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Mari[/name] would be my preference.
@dandelion-wine thank you so much for letting me know about that book. [name]Will[/name] definitely buy it and read it to her. And after reading the description you made me fall in love with [name]Marigold[/name] 10000x more. Thank you. To be honest I am awful with Nnās anyway so sheāll most likely just go by [name]Marigold[/name].
I love different names also. But I do think of a practical approach to make our babies life easier as they grow having way too complicated names⦠I chose [name]Anais[/name], if it is a girl ( as the top 1 of 3 others). And I am a Portuguese-English speaker, so let me say It does not relate to anus in any way, please breath easy on that. We pronounce is as [name]Ana[/name]-eez (tonic on the ''eez" portion). Itās a beautiful and international sounding name. [name]Kinda[/name] vintage and simple- and simple is elegant. (is that of help? hope soā¦)
Best!!
So⦠I had an epiphany. I really like the name [name]Winsome[/name]. Originally I liked it for a boy but on nameberry itās listed as a girl name. I can see why, itās a word that means charming and beautiful. I still like it for a boy too though. And it had that ā[name]Win[/name]ā in it like [name]Winifred[/name]. So why not [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Winsome[/name] and Forth [name]Winsome[/name]? DH likes them too! Woo hoo. Now I am wondering what you think. My last name starts with an M so there is the whole mm sound mashing together with middle and last but that doesnāt bother me as much as first and last would. Opinions?
