Your Opinion?

What do you think of [name_f]Fantasia[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you know any names similar to it–names with a similar meaning or names that give you a similar vibe?

I personally really love [name_f]Fantasia[/name_f] but I have a not so great association with the name because of someone I used to know with it. Should I just ignore that, since she was never a big part of my life anyway and I’ll never see her again (we weren’t close or anything; she was just someone I knew in middle school; I’m in college now)? I love everything about the name otherwise!

And apparently there’s a singer with the name. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think most people would think of her when they hear the name [name_f]Fantasia[/name_f]? I’d rather not use a name that people would automatically associate with a celebrity, regardless of how I feel about them. *That’s why I’ve taken [name_u]North[/name_u] off my list even though I love it (makes me think of stars and snow and the auroras).

Unfortunately, the first thing I think about is [name_f]Fantasia[/name_f], the singer, who won American Idol in 2004. Before that, I would have thought of the Disney Movie [name_f]Fantasia[/name_f]. With that said, I think it’s pretty easy to change your prior associations with certain names when you see a beautiful new baby with the same name. Babies somehow bring a new light to certain names. So if you really love the name, go for it! I’ve just never known any one else with the name [name_f]Fantasia[/name_f] to associate it with.

Names that are similar in feel:
[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Anayah[/name_f]
[name_u]Santana[/name_u]
Sanaya
[name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f]
[name_f]Zendaya[/name_f]
Jaynaya
[name_f]Inaya[/name_f]
[name_f]Fatima[/name_f]

For what it’s worth, I actually love the name [name_u]North[/name_u] and wouldn’t worry about associations with [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]West[/name_u]!

[name_f]Elysia[/name_f] is one not mentioned. It is Greek place name - a heaven of sort. Greeks did not know the idea of heaven, but this is place where good souls go, nice place, too.

I only think of the Disney movie.

For some reason, please don’t be offended, the name has a cheap quality to it for me, like a stage name for an exotic dancer. I think it is the “fantasy” implication.

I’ve never heard of the singer. I know vaguely of the Disney movie but have never seen it.

I’m not a fan of the name. It sounds somewhat cheesy to me.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

I really like [name_f]Elysia[/name_f] but I feel like it’d get lost in the sea of other popular, similar sounding/similar spelled names.

I’m more interested in suggestions of names that you feel are similar to [name_f]Fantasia[/name_f] at this point. I love its meaning and I actually like the Disney association. I just love the way it feels to me and I love the imagery it gives me, I just don’t know if I’d want to use the name itself. I’d prefer names that are more uncommon like [name_f]Fantasia[/name_f].

My first thoughts were the Finnish Taru and Satu, which mean “saga” and “fairytale” respectively. Another favorite of mine is [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f], which is a type of song!

I’ve never heard of Taru or Satu, but they’re both very beautiful and I love their meanings (I’m a sucker for anything fairytale) :). And I love [name_f]Madrigal[/name_f]! It’s a recent addition to my list. I actually just made a post about it not too long ago. I eventually ended up moving it to my middle name list though, because of the inevitability of the nickname [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. It’s a wonderful name though.

Thanks for the reply!

I think only of the Disney movie when I hear it. Based on that, I wouldn’t use it.
