Your opinions please :-)

Hello berries! We are expecting a little girl and are having a really hard time deciding on a name. I could really use your feedback on our short list of names. My hubby and I tend to like classic names that are just under the radar, but will stand the test of time. What are your impressions of each name? [name]Do[/name] any of these seem like they have peaked and are outdated?

[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]
[name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Gabrielle[/name]
[name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Gwyneth[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]

Thanks for your help!

My favourites from your list are [name]Camille[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Gwyneth[/name] - all lovely, classy names that don’t/won’t sound dated and aren’t tied to any particular time.

I love…

Audrey - elegant and ladylike
Camille - soft and pretty
Charlotte - see Audrey
Veronica - saintly gem
Hannah - classic and Biblical

I like…

Natalie - “a new classic”
Gabrielle - a little less dated than Danielle
Madeline - nice name but comes with about three pronunciations ( I say “line”, others say “lyn” or “leen”)
Penelope - one to watch due to the Kardashian baby.
Rose - A filler mn but nice as a first name
Serena - soft and pretty
Catherine - The “K” spelling is more popular
Elizabeth - a classic but the only drawback is that it’s in the US top ten.

[name]Audrey[/name] - always classic, lovely and appropriate, like a little black dress and a pair of kitten heels.
[name]Camille[/name] - elegant like [name]Audrey[/name], but a bit more offbeat and unexpected. Great as a middle name too because of the stressed second syllable.
[name]Natalie[/name] - I love [name]Natalie[/name]. So Christmasy and bright and feminine. I prefer it spelled [name]Nathalie[/name].
[name]Gabrielle[/name] - Not my cup of tea. I knew a bratty [name]Long[/name] Island princess named [name]Gabrielle[/name], so the name is whiney and trashy to my ears.
[name]Madeline[/name] - Despite the beautiful children’s books, I’m not wild about [name]Madeline[/name]. It’s so popular these days that I find it stale.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - Classic yes, but very popular. I love its frothy Frenchness, and I love that it’s also a kind of wonderful fruity dessert.
[name]Penelope[/name] - Great, if you can get past the Kardashian connection. I wouldn’t call [name]Penelope[/name] trendy exactly, because of her mythological substance, but her surge in popularity was Kardashian-induced.
[name]Rose[/name] - Yes. As a first name, [name]Rose[/name] is tender and beautiful. As a middle, filler.
[name]Veronica[/name] - Unusual and handsome. Like this one a lot. Nickname [name]Vera[/name] perhaps.
[name]Hannah[/name] - Classic, but a bit staid.
[name]Gwyneth[/name] - Beautiful, but so tied to the pouty vegan with the faux British accent. [name]Gwendolen[/name]?
[name]Serena[/name] - [name]Serene[/name], peaceful, lovely. Like [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Serena[/name] is always appropriate.
[name]Catherine[/name] - Strong and classic. Nothing daring, but a very solid name with great nickname options.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - see [name]Catherine[/name].

[name]Audrey[/name]…sophisticated and elegant
[name]Camille[/name]… lovely
[name]Natalie[/name]…sweet
[name]Gabrielle[/name]…A gorgeous name but I dislike the nickname [name]Gabby[/name]
[name]Madeline[/name] …Its ok, is too common here
[name]Charlotte[/name]…[name]Love[/name] the name but its very popular now
[name]Penelope[/name]…such a sweet quirky name
[name]Rose[/name]…sweet with any of the other names that you have listed
[name]Hannah[/name]…personally not a fan.
[name]Gwyneth[/name]…ok,prefer [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]…Would not be my choice
[name]Catherine[/name]…Classic and elegant, you cant go wrong with this choice.
[name]Elizabeth[/name]…Same as [name]Catherine[/name]

These are simple classics that I don’t think will ever feel truly dated. They may be more popular than you think though since they don’t spike and drop as much as many names, so she’ll meet a steady amount throughout her life, though not all in her age group.
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Hannah[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]

These I see as currently peaking, they are nice names but they may be associated with this decade in 30 years. Not necessarily a bad thing.
[name]Camille[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]

These I see as having peaked in the last decade and probably headed down. I’ve met quite a few all in the 8-15 age range.
[name]Gabrielle[/name]
[name]Madeline[/name]

These I see as having peaked 20 or 30 years ago, they are usable names but might feel a tad dated
[name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]

These I see as on the fringes of the other groups. Straddling classic and peaking trends
[name]Audrey[/name]
[name]Gwyneth[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]

My favorites from your list are [name]Audrey[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name]. I love [name]Gwen[/name], but [name]Gwyneth[/name] is just too many consonants for me, I prefer [name]Gwendolen[/name]. I also prefer [name]Susannah[/name] to [name]Hannah[/name] as I think it’s more flexible and spunky.

All great names for the most part (at the bottom for me personally are [name]Veronica[/name], [name]Serena[/name], and [name]Gabrielle[/name]).

[name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Madeline[/name] (both of which I love) have been on-trend for quite a while and are very popular. I think the fresher on-trend names are [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Camille[/name].

My two favorites are [name]Audrey[/name] and [name]Hannah[/name], and I’m recently loving/considering the combo [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Hannah[/name].

Thank you so much for the feedback! We are just lost and the date is quickly approaching

I absolutely [name]LOVE[/name] every single one of your names. We have very similar tastes it seems. My absolute favourite name from your list is [name]Audrey[/name]. It’s classic, feminine, sophisticated. Makes me think of [name]Audrey[/name] Hepburn. Very lovely name. If you wanted something less common, then I would choose [name]Camille[/name] or [name]Gwyneth[/name]. They aren’t as popular as the other names on your list.

[name]Audrey[/name] -I love this, very classic. To spice it up a little more you could also use [name]Adrianna[/name].
[name]Camille[/name] -unexpected but lovely.
[name]Natalie[/name] -Outdated, NMS.
[name]Gabrielle[/name] -I prefer [name]Gabriella[/name]. But this is OK.
[name]Madeline[/name] -cute.
[name]Charlotte[/name] -nice… potential for the nickname [name]Charlie[/name].
[name]Penelope[/name] -very sweet.
[name]Rose[/name] -would prefer this as a middle name.
[name]Veronica[/name] -don’t like this.
[name]Hannah[/name] -cute.
[name]Gwyneth[/name] -don’t care for this.
[name]Serena[/name] -nice.
[name]Catherine[/name] -too outdated.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] -outdated, but why not try [name]Libby[/name] as a full name alternative.

*overall my favorites are [name]Penelope[/name] or [name]Madeline[/name] Good [name]Luck[/name]

OK, so from your list the ones I think you should cut for being outdated are:

[name]Natalie[/name]
[name]Gabrielle[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name]

[name]Elizabeth[/name] and [name]Catherine[/name] are names that will withstand time, but they’re a little boring and kind of predictable.

[name]Hannah[/name], [name]Charlotte[/name], [name]Madeline[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] are all beautiful names and I’m particularly fond of [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Madeline[/name]. The only issue here is that they’re really quite popular. [name]Audrey[/name] would be the least of the lot however.

[name]Gwyneth[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] are both fine names, but have celebrity connotations that could either make them rise in popularity ([name]Penelope[/name]) or provide an association that’s hard to get passes ([name]Gwyneth[/name]).

[name]Camille[/name], [name]Rose[/name] and [name]Serena[/name] I think are gems. Classics but they’re not everywhere. [name]Camille[/name] lends itself to the nickname [name]Millie[/name] which is quite adorable as well.

All in all, I would personally probably go with [name]Rose[/name]. [name]Serena[/name] and [name]Penelope[/name] would be on the table as well.

[name]Audrey[/name] - 8/10 elegant.
[name]Camille[/name] - 4/10 nms.
[name]Natalie[/name] - 4.5/10 nms.
[name]Gabrielle[/name] - 3/10 nms.
[name]Madeline[/name] - 4/10 nms.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - 8/10 so lovely, it’s a shame it’s so popular.
[name]Penelope[/name] - 3/10 nms.
[name]Rose[/name] - 7.5/10 gorgeous.
[name]Veronica[/name] - 3.5/10 nms.
[name]Hannah[/name] - 6/10 a little bit…boring in my opinion.
[name]Gwyneth[/name] - 6.5/10 nms, but I would love to meet a little [name]Gwyneth[/name].
[name]Serena[/name] - 7/10 pretty enough.
[name]Catherine[/name] - 8/10 love this with the nickname [name]Kitty[/name]. I prefer the [name]Katherine[/name] spelling.
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - 8.5/10 so many nickname options! My favourite is [name]Effy[/name].

Great list! [name]Gwyneth[/name] is the only one that annoys me. [name]Gwendolyn[/name] is nice, though.

I think you and I have very similar tastes and I think you can’t go wrong.

[name]Audrey[/name] - Beautiful but inching its way up in popularity, for good reason. Classic and elegant.
[name]Camille[/name] - I prefer [name]Camilla[/name], but [name]Camille[/name] is lovely too.
[name]Natalie[/name] - Nice, but I think it’s already peaked for now.
[name]Gabrielle[/name] - Same with [name]Natalie[/name]. It’s nice, classic, is never really out, but a little worn.
[name]Madeline[/name] - I think this will get lost in the sea of Madisons, Madelyns, Addisons, etc., unfortunately.
[name]Charlotte[/name] - [name]One[/name] of my personal favorites, but it’s just so popular. I don’t think this is quite as under-the-radar as you may like, but it’s lovely.
[name]Penelope[/name] - I think this is going to trend and fall. I’d be careful of this one, despite its origins.
[name]Rose[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name] as a first name, filler as a mn.
[name]Veronica[/name] - I think this feels a bit dated and 80s to me.
[name]Hannah[/name] - I love this name. I think it already had its recent peak, so I would think her classmates will tend to be a few years older.
[name]Gwyneth[/name] - Sorry, [name]Gwyneth[/name] Paltrow has kind of overshadowed this.
[name]Serena[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name] - I like [name]Katharine[/name] better, but you really can’t go wrong with [name]Catherine[/name].
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - Same as above. Can’t go wrong here. I would not pair it with [name]Catherine[/name], though.

I love:

[name]Serena[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Madeline[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
