Your Personal Least Favorite Names/Name

What is/are your least favorite baby name/names of all time or the worst name you’ve ever heard?

For me, it’s the name Bristol. Which is not only an ugly sound and a non-existent meaning, but it also slang for breasts, making a very inappropriate name alongside the likes of Dick, Titty, and Fanny.

What about you, berries?

[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] or [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. Soooooo overused.

There are a million others that rub me the wrong way, these two just stand out lol.

I personally dislike [name_f]Brynn[/name_f] for personal reasons. I also dislike [name_f]Ella[/name_f] for no reason

I hate any name that ends with -leigh. (Except for Annaleigh, which is a more real name to me.)

Also hate any made up modern names like Brynnlee or Brexley or McKaylin or McKinslee or any of that…

I also don’t like most names that end in -lyn. I can’t think of any I do like, actually.

I love names like Rose, Alice, Jane, Elizabeth, Theodore, Henry, Peter, Josephine, Florence… classics. Old English names. If it was popular in America in the late 1800s, chances are I think it’s a fine name!

Wow, I think [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] actually has a very pretty sound…

I actually dislike [name_f]Emma[/name_f] :grimacing: And since forever, it has nothing to do with its popularity!
I also really dislike [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. [name_f]My[/name_f] mom’s friend has a daughter named [name_f]Nina[/name_f] [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and we used to hand out together, and I remember thinking “wow, I really love your first name, but I just hate your middle name”

I work with five girls named [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. Never met an [name_f]Ava[/name_f] though!

I went to high school with a girl named Brynn; she was the sweetest thing, so it made me like the name.

I remember meeting an [name_f]Annaleigh[/name_f] for the first time: it was in line at the thrift store. A teenage girl named [name_f]Annaleigh[/name_f] was bullying her friends in the line, so that made me kinda hate the name. Plus, it sounds like “anally”.

Oh, I am SO glad I’m not the only one!

I actually really like names like [name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] and Evelyn; “lyn” is just a soft, pretty sound to my ears.

Same here! But I love SUPER old school names like [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f], [name_f]Bertha[/name_f], [name_f]Beulah[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], etc. Like, the ones no one uses anymore. Makes them feel kind of edgy!

“If it was popular in [name_u]America[/name_u] in the late 1800s, chances are I think it’s a fine name!” - So stuff like [name_f]Fannie[/name_f] and [name_m]Dick[/name_m]? XD

Still, it’s an unusable name due to its negative associations and crass meaning. :frowning:

[name_u]Finn[/name_u] sounds very odd on a girl, so I get your discomfort.

Uh, is it? [name_f]My[/name_f] only association is the city… I’m from UK tho

I dislike it for both genders! But that girl was the first [name_u]Finn[/name_u] I met, so maybe it’s connected lmao

“Bristol” is slang for breasts in most [name_f]English[/name_f] speaking countries.

I actually like [name_f]Fannie[/name_f] :sob: Not [name_m]Dick[/name_m] tho

Fanny/Fannie is slang for “butt”.

I… honestly never heard about that

I know about [name_f]Fannie[/name_f], but it’s a shame. I think some also use it as slang for lady parts

I feel like mine could all be quite unpopular opinions but…

For some reason, I really don’t like 2 syllable girls names ending in ‘la’ - so things like [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f], [name_f]Mila[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f]. I think they all sound really childish.

I also don’t like long girls names (more than 3 syllables) with ‘L’ sounds anywhere in it because to me they just sound like mean names? Things like [name_f]Isabella[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f], [name_f]Liliana[/name_f]

For boys I’m not a fan of names ending in an/on/en but I don’t really know the reason for this one. Names like [name_u]Mason[/name_u], [name_u]Hayden[/name_u], [name_u]Logan[/name_u], [name_m]Harrison[/name_m], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], Kairon

Obviously these are all just personal opinion and if you love these names then great!

I strongly dislike 98% percent of names ending in “-ah”. [name_m]Just[/name_m] drop that H! Drop it!! Would always prefer [name_f]Sara[/name_f] to [name_f]Sarah[/name_f]

There are plenty, but, off the top of my head, [name_f]Etta[/name_f], [name_f]Prudence[/name_f], and [name_f]Vada[/name_f] for girls, [name_u]Braxton[/name_u] and [name_m]Otis[/name_m] for boys. I know a couple of those are well-liked around here, but I don’t get it. :grimacing:

isabelle and all its variants are a no for me, and elizabeth is only all-right in the middle. i really dislike lizzie, but i think izzy is cute.

i do like betty, elspeth, and lilibet, however :tulip:

and i dislike lillian and vivian, but love lili and vivienne.

and i really hate the name maddie. it just sounds too childish.

for boys, i don’t like the spelling ren, but wren is cute for both sexes!

caden & brayden are nos for me, but i think hayden is cute!

i’m also completely turned off to forrest with two r’s, but i could be convinced, because i really love that name.

I have found that I “hate” far fewer names as I get older.

The only names that come to mind immediately are Leon/Leonard/Leonardo, but I love [name_u]Leo[/name_u]. I also love Leona/Leonora/Eleanor with the nickname [name_u]Lenny[/name_u] for a girl.

Others I dislike: [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Olive[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f], [name_m]Soren[/name_m], [name_u]Dylan[/name_u], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]

[name_u]Bristol[/name_u] isn’t a name I would personally use, but I do like it. It isn’t slang for anything in the United States, as far as I am aware. I live in [name_u]Tennessee[/name_u], so it is mostly associated with [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] Motor Speedway, which is a cool association for some folks.

In the US [name_u]Bristol[/name_u] isn’t slang for anything, I mean maybe a few people think that but that’s not at all a common term here. I like the sound of it but I don’t like how it also sounds like pistol :grimacing: really the only names I can think of that I don’t like are [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_f]Mamie[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] I just don’t like and [name_f]Mamie[/name_f] always makes me think of mammograms or the mammary gland. There’s probably more but those are the ones off the top of my head
