Your thoughts on Cressida/Cresselia

Hello, not expecting yet but it will be the plan within the next two years.

I’ve recently fallen in love with [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] to the point where she’s my no.1 choice. This name is fairly unheard of in Australia, and when I mentioned it to my brother he mentioned Cresselia, which is a Pokémon.

Naturally, I immediately fell in love with Cresselia. So my question is, do you think Cresselia is too much? I thought it gave the name a floral vibe and reminds me of [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Azalea[/name_f] - but giving a child the first name of a Pokémon is probably a little inappropriate, as the series is still very popular, even though there is almost a thousand Pokémon out there.

While Cresselia isn’t a famous Pokémon, I personally wouldn’t do it. I would prefer to have a name that has a history to it versus it being the name of a Pokémon! But, this is coming from someone who loves Pokémon and [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] is one of my favorite names. I can see the appeal of Cresselia though!

I think Cresselia is too much, sorry. [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] is a nice name, though, and [name_f]Essie[/name_f] would be a sweet nickname.

Cresselia is pretty but my vote goes to [name_f]Cressida[/name_f]. It’s more established and has a cleaner look/sound. It sounds austere yet intriguing. I can easily see a lawyer, artist, or CEO with the name [name_f]Cressida[/name_f].

Maybe you’d like [name_f]Camellia[/name_f]? It’s a recent floral love of mine that might fit your criteria!

[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] is lovely!

Cresselia…? It does sound nice, yes. But there isn’t a lot of substace to it, is there? I mean, it’s a Pokémon, but that’s it…?

You might also like [name_f]Cerelia[/name_f], [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], Cedrella (the female version of [name_m]Cedric[/name_m]), [name_f]Coralia[/name_f] or [name_f]Cyrilla[/name_f].

I never know Cresselia the pokemon, so to me is just sounds like a smoosh between [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] and [name_f]Celia[/name_f]. not my cup of tea, but I’m not against it either.

[name_f]Cressida[/name_f]… I want to like this name, but I can’t get over the sida part. It’s a pretty name though. Maybe you’ll like [name_f]Crescentia[/name_f] or [name_f]Camellia[/name_f] too?

Honestly, if you love Cresselia, go for it. I’m the biggest pokémon nerd I know and even for me it wasn’t immediately obvious where the name came from. I doubt it would be for anyone else. If not [name_f]Cressida[/name_f] is a nice alternative.
Insofar as a name being innapropriate due to its relation to pokémkn, how many girls do people know called [name_f]Evie[/name_f], Eevie, [name_f]Evi[/name_f], Evee or Eevee?

[name_f]Cressida[/name_f] is really lovely, I don’t care for the other name.

While I don’t think Cresselia is unusable, I don’t think that’s an accurate comparison. [name_f]Evie[/name_f] and its other spellings has a history of use as a common nickname for [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] and over Ev- names that definitely predate Pokémon. Cresselia was made up for the name of a Pokémon.

Thanks for all your replies, I think I knew deep down it’s not something I’d be brave enough to use, but I really wanted nameberry opinions as I love reading through your thoughts about names
