I’m worrying about how first and last names run together. What are your thoughts on pairing a first name that ends with the “ess” sound with a last name that starts with the same sound?
Last name is Stearne (rhymes with “learn”.) Our current top names include [name_f]Alice[/name_f]. However, [name_f]MIL[/name_f] says that when spoken quickly, “[name_f]Alice[/name_f] Stearne” sounds like [name_m]Alastair[/name_m].
Would you ever pair two names that run together? Under what circumstances? What would tip the balance for you? And am I overthinking this? I know we have a few family members with names like [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Morris[/name_m], and they don’t appear to be scarred for life. However, I also know that to me, certain names and name combinations sound like nails on a blackboard, and I don’t want my kid’s name to generate that reaction in others.
I know plenty of people with names that run together. In fact, now that I think about it, my partner has a name that does such! Never even noticed. His first name ends with ‘S’ and his surname starts with ‘S’.
Honestly if it’s something that’s always going to be a worry at the back of your head, I wouldn’t do it. However, I personally wouldn’t let it deter me from a name I like. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is beautiful! I think [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Stearne sounds so cute!
My daughter’s first and last name run together slightly (we also have a last name that starts with S). My little brother’s name does the same thing. It’s never really been an issue that I know of! [name_f]Alice[/name_f] Stearne is a lovely name! It can run together but not if you pause after saying [name_f]Alice[/name_f].
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] Stearne is lovely! I barely hear [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], so I do think you’re overthinking it a little, because I think you might have already found the name for you!
