So…I am often on here day-dreaming for names I might use in the next 2 years or so.
By family tradition we will probably follow, our first son would have a J name.
I really like [name]Joseph[/name] and [name]Jonas[/name]. [name]Both[/name] somewhat traditional/classic but also unused in the family.
My husband and I have similar enough tastes in many respects, so I thought he’d like those.
Once we finally spoke about it: He’s not against them, but – prefers [name]JUSTIN[/name]?
: D
I guess it’s OK by me.
[name]Virtue[/name] names are a thing in the family, so the sound-alike to [name]Justice[/name] is a cool tie-in to that.
[name]Justice[/name] itself of course is probably too much at least as a fn.
I like that it’s an early saints name, the patron saint of philosophers, that suits me.
BUT - so [name]Justin[/name] Bieber, so “tired” a bit from the 90s.
It’s my cousin’s name, and he’s quite a few years older than me, so yeah, it feels pretty dated to me. When I was on a child sponsorship site, I came across the name Yestin (which was on a girl, but apparently it’s an international boys’ variation of [name]Justin[/name]?). Anyway, I think Yestin is cool and much more fresh than [name]Justin[/name], but it kind of doesn’t help with your “J” name, haha.
I actually love [name]Jameson[/name] [name]Miles[/name] in your signature–any hope of convincing him of that? I think [name]Jonas[/name] is such a cool option, too…
Like you, I do like the saint and virtue connections, but yeah, I agree, too [name]Justin[/name] Bieber and too dated for me. I used to like it (like so many other names from my generation), but it’s just a bit too dated for me now.
Thanks [name]Ash[/name]! The Bieber bothers me more than the generational/dated thing, though I know what you mean. Maybe in 2 years Bieber fever will be less intense : D ? Or I can have twins [name]Jonas[/name] and [name]Justin[/name] so that I get the [name]Jonas[/name] Brothers and [name]Justin[/name] Bieber references all in one? Last name starts with B so even that fits : D!
[name]Glad[/name] you like [name]Jameson[/name]! I’ve floated it in passing…he basically thinks the whiskey tie in is too much. While I really like this name and can see myself advocating for it, I can’t say I completely disagree. Ultimately, I think it’s vaguely on the table. [name]Joseph[/name] or [name]Jonas[/name] could maybe win out, too.
Yestin is cooler, I agree, but yeah, if we’re going with J, we’re going with J, and if we don’t go with J, it probably won’t be for Yestin : D.
I’ll probably push back on [name]Justin[/name] some if and when the time comes.
I don’t really care for [name]Justin[/name] just because it’s so overused where I’m from. I have a cousin on both sides of the family named [name]Justin[/name], my one cousin [name]Justin[/name] has a best friend named [name]Justin[/name]. I grew up with a million of them in school with me lol, then the whole [name]Justin[/name] Timberlake and [name]Justin[/name] Bieber, just too popular for my taste. I too love [name]Jameson[/name] like a pp said.
I also like [name]Jacoby[/name], nn could be [name]Jake[/name] or [name]Jacob[/name] too. Or [name]Jack[/name]. I dunno, I guess it is a nice name, I just know too many of them lol.
It’s a cute name for a little boy, but I think it is a bit dated and very overused. I know many, many [name]Justins[/name] of all ages. I think a more classic ‘J’ name would be better.
Thanks all! Interesting, I mainly only know [name]Justins[/name] around my own age (30ish…OK, some teenagers, now that I think about it), and it is falling fast - a sign of being out of style, too, but also a sign that, for better or worse, he’d be unlikely to share it too much.
Looking at its chart, too, in a way it’s classic - it’s always been in the top 1000 since the records started.
Actually [name]Justin[/name] Timberlake is OK by me, that kind balances out [name]Justin[/name] Bieber, ha : D.
But still, I agree, something more classic, but it’s hard.
[name]Jacoby[/name] is out, thanks for the suggestion though. Really bad associations with a [name]Jacob[/name], and [name]Jacob[/name] itself would run into our last name.
[name]Jack[/name] to me is only a nickname, I do like it as a nickname though. [name]James[/name] or [name]John[/name] are nice names we’d consider but they’re in the immediate family and I’m not sure I like that. Although [name]James[/name] or [name]John[/name] nn’d [name]Jack[/name], would maybe be solid.
I like a number of J names. But not… not [name]Justin[/name]. And I can’t even wave the “dated” stick because amongst others I like [name]Jonathan[/name] and [name]Joel[/name] and [name]Jared[/name] which I’ve heard derided as similarly 70’s-'80s.
My DH really likes [name]Jonathan[/name] though and he’s shut down [name]Joaquin[/name] and [name]Josiah[/name] and [name]Jethro[/name] hard and was pretty chilly on [name]Judah[/name] too, mostly saying he didn’t mind it but worried about [name]Judas[/name] implications.
I didn’t even have a reason for a J name for a boy, I just really like way too many of them.
Oh shoot, sorry to bear the bad news [name]Ash[/name]! Well better to be informed ultimately. What’s the other one?
I hear you stripedsocks. [name]Love[/name] [name]Joaquin[/name] (and [name]Joachim[/name]) and [name]Jethro[/name] too…it’s just not gonna happen for me either though. [name]Joseph[/name] or [name]Jonas[/name], maybe though.
I wonder if we should talk about moving away from the family tradition, it would free up so many nice names : D. And we could start a new one.
But, realistically, it’s going to be a serious contendor.
I do think [name]Joseph[/name] is great. Not sure why but prefer [name]Jonah[/name] to [name]Jonas[/name]. Lack of [name]Jonas[/name] brothers link, maybe?
My sister is fond of [name]Jeremiah[/name], I think I prefer [name]Jedidiah[/name] or [name]Jebediah[/name], simply because every [name]Jeremiah[/name] I’ve ever met becomes a [name]Jerry[/name] (she swears she will not allow this to happen) and I find [name]Jed[/name] and [name]Jeb[/name] to be more cowboy cool, I guess.
haha, well, realistically, I don’t drink alcohol, period, so there’s really no reason why I would link it to alcohol. Really no one in my family drinks, haha. Well, there’s [name]Bailey[/name]… and then there’s [name]Jack[/name]… and then there’s [name]Daniel[/name]… and then there’s how much I love [name]Jack[/name] [name]Daniel[/name] as a combo… See? Addicted to alcohol names.
