Your thoughts on Preston

Hello Berries,
I’m a long time lurker on here but I thought it was time to create an account.
I was sharing my favourite names with my Mum and I mentioned that I liked [name_m]Preston[/name_m] for a boy. She absolutely hates it with a passion and she says it sounds harsh and trendy and that it’s not even a first name- its a surname. It’s not like I will be having kids anytime soon so I won’t be using it yet- but to me it sounds handsome and strong.
What are your honest opinions?

I have always been a huge fan of the name [name_m]Preston[/name_m]. I can’t use it because
not only do I have a two cousins with the name, my friends named their
little boy [name_m]Preston[/name_m].
I think the name [name_m]Preston[/name_m] is a good, strong name, and around where I live
isn’t used too often. [name_m]William[/name_m] [name_m]Preston[/name_m] and [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] are good combos!

Thanks @britthayes, I like [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] but it is probably the most popular boy’s middle name! It does flow nicely though. What do you think of:
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]/[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]

and [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]Blake[/name_u]. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

I like [name_m]Preston[/name_m] but it’s a place name and a surname so I would only use it as a middle name.

[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m]

[name_m]Preston[/name_m] has been in the top 400 since the SSA’s inception. In 1880, it was ranked #243. Sure, it’s a surname but I think it’s also become a widely accepted given name. In 2006, it reached its peak at #114 and is now losing ground. I’d say that it’s definitely not trendy.

I think [name_m]Preston[/name_m] sounds like it is trying too hard. I agree with your mum about it being harsh and trendy. However, there is nothing wrong with using a surname name. Maybe you would like to look at some options on this list https://nameberry.com/list/358/Surname-Baby-Names?all=1

[name_m]Preston[/name_m] is most certainly a name. It was my uncles name and now my baby cousin’s name. I think it is nice and dignified. It does have a preppy feel but doesn’t seem stuck up.

@britthayes Thanks so much for the long list! I like it as a first name and a middle name. [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]Blake[/name_u], and [name_u]Quincy[/name_u] [name_m]Preston[/name_m] are all great!
@flowercait I love [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u]. [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] flows nicely too.
@whirligig It’s interesting because I don’t normally like surname names. [name_m]Finnigan[/name_m] is good from that list!
I can’t decide on which one to add to my list but I think that [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]Blake[/name_u] and [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] are probably my favourites!

I like [name_m]Preston[/name_m] a lot! It definitely has a preppy vibe to me, but that’s not a bad thing. I also think it’s well-established as a first name. I like the suggestions of [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]. From your three, I like [name_m]Preston[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] best.
