I have been thinking about adding [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] to my list for a while but I wanted to ask a couple of questions before I did so. I’m a little worried that it’s a lot more popular than the other names on my list, [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] #56, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] #308 and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] #37 whereas [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] #6 and also [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] #146, [name_m]Caleb[/name_m] #85, [name_m]Declan[/name_m] #175, [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] #129, [name_m]Miles[/name_m] #185, [name_m]Brock[/name_m] (can’t find a rank in the UK.)
One of my best friends is named [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], do you think it would be weird to name a baby after your best friend?
[name_m]How[/name_m] many Sophies’ do you know? [name_m]How[/name_m] old are they?
What’s your opinion of the name?
What two middle names would you give [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] fits with the other names on my list?
I strongly prefer [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] to the overly feminine and frilly [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I don’t know any personally, but have met a few on the playgrounds. I think it would depend on your friendship…I wouldn’t name my children after friends in most cases.
[name_m]How[/name_m] many Sophies’ do you know? [name_m]How[/name_m] old are they?
I only know one and she is a dog I know many Sophias though!
What’s your opinion of the name?
I absolutely love the name, but the popularity would bother me personally. Beautiful name though.
What two middle names would you give [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Prudence[/name_f]
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] fits with the other names on my list?
I like [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] best with [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and [name_m]Jasper[/name_m]. The others don’t seem to compliment it as well but they certainly don’t clash or anything.
As a [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], I feel I am uniquely qualified to answer this
As a kid, I didn’t like my name. This was mainly for two reasons; I didn’t really feel like it suited me and that it was (and still is) VERY popular. There was always at least one other [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] in my year, at one point there was 5, including me! They were always more popular and seemed to suit the name so much better, so I guess it was more to due with my own jealousy and insecurities than anything really. But over the years, I’ve come to accept that it is my name, it was chosen for a reason and its a part of who I am. I wouldn’t say that I love it, but I kinda like it now.
To answer your questions:
Yes I think it would be weird to name a kid the same name as a close friend unless you were specifically honoring them.
I used to know lots of Sophies, but I haven’t come across many that are younger than me. The only one i remember was the little sister of a childhood frenemie. I do, however, know a [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] who is 2 or 3 and a [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]-[name_f]Lily[/name_f] who is 9 months.
I think its feminine and elegant with a french quirk. Its more grounded, down to earth and less frilly than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].
I have two middles - [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], both family names. I think they work well together.
I think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] works well with your list, especially [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] and [name_m]Miles[/name_m].
Like you said, [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] isn’t super obscure. If your friend was named [name_f]Hypatia[/name_f] and you named your daughter [name_f]Hypatia[/name_f] as well, then that could raise some eyebrows!
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is gorgeous, and despite popularity, she goes very well with your other names that you like. There’s nothing wrong with having a popular name – she’ll still be an individual like no other!
It’s okay. I rather liked [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] and all her many variants, until I heard [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sophia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sofia[/name_f]/[name_f]Sofie[/name_f]/etc., etc., everywhere. Is it a nice name? Yeah, and it’s universal (although that also means it’s universally rampantly popular!), but after hearing it bantered about so much, I’m just tired of hearing. It’s nice, but it’s not noteworthy anymore, unfortunately. It is sweet. I technically still have the [name_m]French[/name_m] double-barrel [name_f]Anne[/name_f]-[name_f]Sophie[/name_f] on my list, but I’m pretty sure I’m dropping that, too. The last time I’ve had either [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] on my list, my combos were [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] (or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f], but I didn’t really like [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] before [name_f]Eve[/name_f], honestly, even though [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eve[/name_f] [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] sounds much worse!) and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f], which I still adore. I would love to meet a little [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f] [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]!
I know quite a few girls named [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], a lot from the UK, and one or two little ones over here. The ones in the UK that I know are all over 15, but there’s at least 12 of them. I think it was the number one name for English(and Welsh) baby girls in 1996, which shows a lot.
I think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is a lovely name, but because I know so many, I prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].
I would name a little girl either; [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]. There’s quite a few combinations I like though for [name_f]Sophie[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] works wonderfully with your list, especially the girls names
