Your thoughts on these guilty pleasures?

Pretty much what the title says. Are these names wearable? If you met someone with this name, would you roll your eyes and wonder what their parents were smoking? Could someone with this name be a baby, a young adult, or a senior citizen; a janitor, a teacher, or a lawyer? Or am I just nuts?

Have at it! Brutal honesty is always appreciated.

GIRLS
Valkyrie
[name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Valentine[/name] (yes, I have a thing for V-names)
[name]Thessaly[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]
[name]Avalon[/name]
[name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Halcyon[/name]

BOYS
[name]Zephyr[/name]
[name]Arrow[/name]
[name]Waldo[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Marlowe[/name]
[name]Merlin[/name]
[name]Darwin[/name]
[name]Willoughby[/name] (nn [name]Willo[/name])

EITHER
[name]Starling[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Dove[/name]

It would be great if you could suggest more wearable alternatives or other names you think I’d like based on this list.

Thanks, Berries!

I really like:

Valkyrie
[name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Thessaly[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]
[name]Avalon[/name]
[name]Artemis[/name]

[name]Waldo[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Marlowe[/name]
[name]Darwin[/name]
[name]Willoughby[/name]

I would actually use (as firsts):

[name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Thessaly[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]
[name]Avalon[/name]

[name]Waldo[/name]
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Darwin[/name]

Great choices!

GIRLS
Valkyrie - It has nice accessible nicknames, but I still can’t see it on an actual human being.
[name]Vesper[/name] - Maybe…
[name]Valentine[/name] - I think this is definitely usable.
[name]Thessaly[/name] - [name]Just[/name] don’t see the appeal, sorry. It’s so lispy and made-up sounding (I know, it’s not).
[name]Odessa[/name] - Usable!
[name]Avalon[/name] - Usable.
[name]Artemis[/name] - Usable!
[name]Halcyon[/name] - Again, just don’t see the appeal, and I don’t think the pronunciation is intuitive. Is it [name]Hal[/name]-kyawn or [name]Hal[/name]-see-on?

BOYS
[name]Zephyr[/name] - Not usable, [name]IMO[/name]. I prefer Zephan.
[name]Arrow[/name] - Usable!
[name]Waldo[/name] - Usable-ish, but prepare for a lot of “Where’s [name]Waldo[/name]?” jokes. I prefer [name]Walter[/name].
[name]Atlas[/name] - Usable!
[name]Marlowe[/name] - On a girl I think this sounds glamorous, but on a boy I think Marlboro for some reason.
[name]Merlin[/name] - Not usable. Not at all, sorry.
[name]Darwin[/name] - Usable. I think there’s a member on here with a son named [name]Darwin[/name].
[name]Willoughby[/name] (nn [name]Willo[/name]) - I think it’s usable with NN [name]Will[/name] (less so [name]Willo[/name]), but it sounds a little pretentious if it’s not family-related.

EITHER
[name]Starling[/name] - Usable on a girl.
[name]Quincy[/name] - I knew a boy in high school named this, I think it’s okay on either gender.
[name]Dove[/name] - Usable on a girl.

I think these are wearable:

GIRLS
Valkyrie – in the middle though
[name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]
[name]Avalon[/name]
[name]Artemis[/name]

BOYS
[name]Zephyr[/name] – or [name]Zephyrine[/name] for a girl
[name]Atlas[/name]
[name]Marlowe[/name] – I ADORE this and Christopher Marlowe is my favorite playwright so I just love this on a boy
[name]Merlin[/name] – in the middle (another [name]Berry[/name] is talking about it too)

I like [name]Valentine[/name], [name]Odessa[/name], [name]Avalon[/name] a lot.
The rest are just too much imo.

I only like [name]Darwin[/name] for your boys list, and I like [name]Quincy[/name] only for boys. I’d rather [name]Sterling[/name] over [name]Starling[/name].

It seems like [name]Odessa[/name] and [name]Avalon[/name] are pretty generally agreed to be usable. Awesome! I love these two.

@ imperioustigerlily: Thank you!

@ Greyer: [name]Thessaly[/name] is one I liked ages ago and have only recently come back around to liking again. Perhaps it is that somewhat ‘lispy’ quality that turned me off, though I do love the mythological and literary associations. [name]Halcyon[/name] ([name]Hal[/name]-SEE-on) is one that’s grown on me. I didn’t see the appeal at first either, so I can…see why you don’t see why I like it? I hadn’t thought about the pronunciation, but you’re right, it might not be intuitive, which would be a serious issue for me. Thanks for pointing that out!

I know that [name]Marlowe[/name] is generally agreed to be a girls’ name, and I know it has a feminine sound, but I would use it as an honor name for my favorite playwright, [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name], who was very much male. Masculine names on girls make me cringe – but you’re right, those feminine associations would be tough for a boy to beat! At the same time, I worry [name]Marlowe[/name] is too much a man’s name for a daughter. Sigh.

I know that [name]Waldo[/name] would definitely get a lot of “Where’s [name]Waldo[/name]?” jokes. I have a name with a significant pop culture association myself, and one out of five people I introduce myself to brings it up. Honestly, it doesn’t bother me…though my name is more mainstream than [name]Waldo[/name]. I do feel like [name]Waldo[/name] could stand up to the association, though! To me it seems a lot younger and fresher and a lot more handsome than [name]Walter[/name].

@ dantea: Thanks! Valkyrie and [name]Merlin[/name] are the two I’d probably be wariest of sticking in front. Particularly [name]Merlin[/name]. To the middle they go!

@ east93: Unfortunately [name]Sterling[/name] feels too silver-spoon New Englander for me (ironically, since I love the uber-pretentious [name]Willoughby[/name]). Thanks for your feedback!

I’m interested to see opinion split on [name]Valentine[/name]. She’s one I’ve really come to love, but I worry she’d have an even worse time of it than [name]Waldo[/name]. After all, [name]Valentine[/name]‘s [name]Day[/name] is every year. People exchange valentines. It’s also a holiday heavily associated with love, sex, and romance, which might be more than a little uncomfortable for a young girl. At the same time, I think it’s such a strong, lovely name, and it has a long history of use! Plus I think she’d pair beautifully with my favorite girls’ name, [name]Marigold[/name]. Thoughts?

GIRLS
Valkyrie – Yup, you are a weirdo.
[name]Vesper[/name] – I think this is wearable. I’m sure there would be times that it would be hard for her, but I can see it being cute on the right girl.
[name]Valentine[/name] – Depends on where you live. It seems like something I could see somewhere very upper-crusty, as well as a very hick name. And no matter what she’d probably go through a teasing phase. (I know a little [name]Valentina[/name], which is cute)
[name]Thessaly[/name] – I don’t like it personally, but I think it’s very wearable. I had a student named Tempany last year, and once she got past the “It’s not [name]Tiffany[/name]” phase, we all got used to it.
[name]Odessa[/name] – Pretty, and would fit in with names like [name]Alyssa[/name] and such I think.
[name]Avalon[/name] – Some people would find it gorgeous, others would think you were trying to be too fancy or artsy or something.
[name]Artemis[/name] – I think it would be hard to wear in my neck of the woods, but in certain neighborhoods she might fit right in.
[name]Halcyon[/name] – I don’t think it works.

BOYS
[name]Zephyr[/name] – I can see this.
[name]Arrow[/name] – I can see this too, especially since I live in a huntin’ area.
[name]Waldo[/name] – Lots of teasing potential here.
[name]Atlas[/name] – I think it would be a hard name to live with.
[name]Marlowe[/name] – Fits right in.
[name]Merlin[/name] – Hide it in the middle if you must use it.
[name]Darwin[/name] – Another one that I think depends on where you live, but it’s definitely usable.
[name]Willoughby[/name] (nn [name]Willo[/name]) – [name]Willo[/name] is too girly for a boy. In my hometown, a kid named [name]Willoughby[/name] would get beat up for his sissy name. In a better area, it might fit right in though.

EITHER
[name]Starling[/name] – Awful for a boy, and I think hard on a girl too.
[name]Quincy[/name] – Wearable
[name]Dove[/name] – Cute for a girl, awful for a boy.

It would be great if you could suggest more wearable alternatives or other names you think I’d like based on this list.

Thanks, Berries![/QUOTE]

I think these are the most usable of your list:

[name]Valentine[/name]
[name]Thessaly[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]- My favorite of your girls names. This is on my long list. I really like!
[name]Artemis[/name]
[name]Halcyon[/name]- Maybe as a middle name

[name]Marlowe[/name]- My least favorite of the names. This may shoot in popularity for girls soon
[name]Merlin[/name]- I like this because of the history, but it may not be as wearable
[name]Willoughby[/name] (nn [name]Willo[/name])- Some may view it as a little pretentious, but it can be cute

[name]Quincy[/name]- cute for a boy
[name]Dove[/name]- possibly cute as a middle for girls, maybe depending on the first name

@lieseysmom : Oh my god, where do you live?! Haha! I will definitely not be moving there with my kids.

You brought up a really salient point, though: location. I do live in a very big [name]East[/name] Coast city, and I grew up in another very big [name]East[/name] Coast city where 50% of my elementary school had names native to their cultures (mostly Korean) and the rest were pretty creative. I think a lot of offbeat names would be MUCH easier to wear where I live (and plan to raise my kids) as opposed to, say, in rural Idaho. That said, you’ve definitely made me wonder whether I want to saddle my kids with names that won’t travel well if they [name]DO[/name] decide to move to rural Idaho. Hmm…

[name]Augusta[/name], I remember seeing somewhere that you consider yourself agnostic if not atheist and these feel very much like Wiccan/[name]Neo[/name] Polytheist names.

[name]Avalon[/name] as in the rather holy place in the Arthurian legends its sort of like a [name]Christian[/name] naming her daughter [name]Eden[/name]. It’s very strange to me seeing that on a secular girl.

Where I live [name]Halcyon[/name] is a very small town and in the post office is a [name]Neo[/name] Polytheist store complete with a fortune teller.

Since your agnostic/atheist, I’d say these are usable:
[name]Vesper[/name]
[name]Valentine[/name] (there’s the saint and the holiday which make this fairly mainstream)
[name]Thessaly[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]
[name]Arrow[/name] (feels a bit hippyish)
[name]Waldo[/name] (you’d get a lot of Where’s [name]Waldo[/name] jokes though)
[name]Marlowe[/name] (sadly this feels very feminine to me)
[name]Darwin[/name] (though a bit politically charged - I’d assume you believe in evolution)
[name]Willoughby[/name]
[name]Starling[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Dove[/name] (again hippyish)

I think [name]Vesper[/name], [name]Odessa[/name], [name]Darwin[/name], and [name]Quincy[/name] are the most usable as first names. I’d avoid names of gods and goddesses, but that’s really my own personal preferences.
I know names like [name]Freya[/name] are big in the U.K. but if I saw a little [name]Freya[/name] I’d at least assuming her family was at least into Norse mythology.

I wouldn’t worry too much about “what if your kids move to rural Idaho?” if your values are that of the [name]East[/name] Coast. I went to my grandmother’s funeral in rural upper Michigan, there isn’t much there and people are leaving if they can. I also found my values are very different, so any hypothetical child of mine would probably have a hard time there even as an adult. More people are moving to cities and out of suburbs and rural communities. I went on a long trek through the upper peninsula of Michigan and there are a lot of abandoned towns there.

I love and would definitely use [name]Halcyon[/name] (super love!), [name]Vesper[/name] and [name]Valentine[/name] (except I think [name]Val[/name] is inevitable and I don’t particularly like it). [name]Arrow[/name] is also recently shooting up my list and [name]Atlas[/name] is my #1 boys name. Although they’re not my favorites, I like [name]Artemis[/name] and I think [name]Avalon[/name] is totally usable also. And I like [name]Willoughby[/name] but only as a mn. I student teach in a suburb of Northern [name]Ca[/name]. and I don’t think any of these names would be “weird” in comparison to my students.

mara_lyn86: [name]Marlowe[/name]'s popularity for girls is definitely a concern. I can’t even call it girlnapping since [name]Margo[/name] and [name]Marlo[/name] are established girl names, and [name]Marlowe[/name] has never been in steady use for boys! [name]Glad[/name] we agree on [name]Odessa[/name] – she’s gorgeous.

bettyblowtorch: You must be getting the “Wiccan/polytheist” vibe from the fact that these are largely nature or place names? Nature and place names are pretty well-loved by members of many sects/religions/beliefs, though, so I really don’t think Wiccans/polytheists can claim those categories as their own.

I am well aware of [name]Avalon[/name]'s mythical and historical associations – that’s part of the reason I chose it. The difference from [name]Eden[/name] is that 1) Christianity is still enormously widely practiced, while pre-[name]Roman[/name] British paganism has been dead for centuries (though I know there’s been some attempt at a renaissance); and 2) Arthurian legend is part of my personal cultural history (on mom’s side of the family), so it would not be appropriation for me to use a name from that tradition.

The most salient cultural association with [name]Avalon[/name] at the moment has got to be the book “Mists of [name]Avalon[/name]” (an early feminist favorite of mine), which is, obviously, a work of fiction dealing with myth and legend. So I think by and large [name]Avalon[/name] would be seen as a name of myth and legend, much like [name]Rhiannon[/name] – perfectly kosher for secular use.

You must live in a very interesting town.

I don’t think [name]Darwin[/name] is politically charged at all because I don’t think evolution is an inherently political topic. Politicized, sure – stupidly, wrongly, absurdly politicized – but naming a kid [name]Darwin[/name] is as, or even less, political than naming him [name]Galileo[/name]…or even [name]Marlowe[/name], since [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name] was same-sex attracted (infamously so!).

Any particular reason for avoiding names of gods and goddesses? I am very much “into” mythology, both personally and professionally, so I’m not sure why these names would be off-limits.

I’m totally with you on the values thing – my values are definitely [name]East[/name] Coast liberal. But I wouldn’t want my kids to be limited if they decided to become potato farmers! Still, there’s no point trying to guess the life choices of my future offspring. They can always change their names, after all!

Thanks for your feedback! [name]Odessa[/name] remains a favorite, it seems.

@witchgreens : [name]Glad[/name] to see [name]Halcyon[/name] getting some love! Now I want to know what your students are named…

No, we don’t “claim” nature names, it’s just if you wanted a completely secular name especially in the past before the internet you really only had nature names to choose from. A large part of the reason is also that I like some [name]Neo[/name] Polytheist name websites (Nook of Names and Bewitching Names) and names like these show up.

[name]Avalon[/name] is a great name, and I’m very pleased you have the emotional connection to it. Apologies if I offended you.

Yeah, I live in a pretty interesting community. The north half is very conservative bible belt and the rest is more hippy live and let live. So being a bisexual secular witch I don’t go up there very much. Thus, even fairly secular names like [name]Guinevere[/name] (who in the legend is [name]Christian[/name]) and [name]Rhiannon[/name] (a goddess name, but [name]Stevie[/name] Nicks used to introduce the song as “This is a song about an old Welsh witch,” and [name]Stevie[/name] herself has been accused of being a witch by conservatives) probably aren’t when you get up north.

I should note that I’m a Californian, thus Proposition 8 was really wild. The north part of the county was really scary to me with their big Proposition 8 signs almost always accompanied by crosses right next to them. Might as well have put up bull horns saying “Bettyblowtorch is not welcome here!”

As far as god and goddess names, some of it has to do with some in the pagan community thinking it’s pretentious or tacky or too much baggage (a lot of the gods aren’t exactly perfect). It can also be for protection sadly. A surprising amount of people believe we’re satanists and like to take the bible a little too literally. It’s rare, I’m more likely to be beaten for being bisexual, but it’s still there. There is also the potential for the child to not want to be pagan, so having a name tied to your religion might be a bit much.

I agree [name]Darwin[/name] shouldn’t be politicized, but people in power try to challenge evolution all the time because of the bible. The willful ignorance when it comes to science rather appalls me. It’s a nice name.

I rather enjoyed your guilty pleasure list and you can certainly use a good chunk of them.

GIRLS
Valkyrie - it makes me think of Ride of the Valkyries by [name]Wagner[/name]. Not a positive association,as Hitlers favourite composer.
[name]Vesper[/name] - not sure about in the US but this was the name of a type of mod style mini-motorbike,albeit spelt [name]Vespa[/name],in Europe.
[name]Valentine[/name] (yes, I have a thing for V-names) - I prefer [name]Valentina[/name], St [name]Valentine[/name] having been a man and all
[name]Thessaly[/name] - I really don’t like this, as a pp said it sounds lispy
[name]Odessa[/name] - this could work in middle name spot
[name]Avalon[/name] - I think this is lovely
[name]Artemis[/name] - love this name!
[name]Halcyon[/name] - I’m not keen on this as a first, but could be lovely as a middle name

BOYS
[name]Zephyr[/name] - maybe as a middle name?
[name]Arrow[/name] - I really don’t like this. An arrow is a weapon,not a name imo
[name]Waldo[/name] - where’s [name]Waldo[/name]?
[name]Atlas[/name] - would be a fabulous middle name!
[name]Marlowe[/name] - I like the [name]Christopher[/name] [name]Marlowe[/name] link but it seems to have become very popular
[name]Merlin[/name] - I really like this name. But please,no children named [name]Merlin[/name] AND [name]Avalon[/name] lol!
[name]Darwin[/name] - depends on how you feel about [name]Charles[/name] [name]Darwin[/name]. I quite like it
[name]Willoughby[/name] (nn [name]Willo[/name]) - love love love this! Excellent name!

EITHER
[name]Starling[/name] - as a middle name, for a girl. Is too feminine sounding for a boy
[name]Quincy[/name] - for a boy I like it. [name]Don[/name]'t like it at all for a girl
[name]Dove[/name] - maybe middle name for a girl?

I can’t really think of any alternatives at the moment, but I may be back with some

Ones I could see on a child:

[name]Artemis[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this. My cousins name. Totally wearable.
[name]Halcyon[/name]-My friends name. [name]Love[/name] it
[name]Darwin[/name]
[name]Willoughby[/name] (nn [name]Willo[/name])

Suggetions:
Instead of [name]Starling[/name] why not try [name]Sparrow[/name].
[name]Quinn[/name] instead of [name]Quincy[/name].

Names that I could see on a child but are NMS:
[name]Odessa[/name]
[name]Thessaly[/name]

My name is [name]Avalon[/name] and I would like to provide some insight on the name. The majority of people I have met think it is a wonderful name or at least that it suits me and the only negative reaction my parents got were from my grandparents, who think I have grown into my name. My parets chose it because it is the only name under the sun (besides my little sister’s) that they could agree upon, and I am happy they decided it. Although for many the Arthurian connotations are prevalent, the vast majority of people I come accross (I am 15) except for my mom’s spiritual friends don’t draw that connection at all and quite possibly don’t even know about the legends. Last summer I went to Glastonbury in [name]England[/name] where [name]Avalon[/name] supposedly was and it was a wierd feeling to me that everyone there knew about my name and I got way to many “welcome home” responses. From what I have drawn, outside of Glastonbury, where the they have lots of goddess couses and things like that, that type of peaganism is essentially dead. Overall, I love my name and would recommend it to anyone.

Thanks for the insight, [name]Avalon[/name]. I’m still learning what is and isn’t appropriate in the outside world and have a tendency to over estimate things (like if I know x, everyone must know x too). It’s a great name and I’m happy it’s served you well and will serve others well in the future.

Honestly I think they’re all usable, but I love unusual names. I actually expected something crazy but was surprised at how normal (by my standards) these names were

GIRLS
Valkyrie- I had to look it up to see what other history it had. I like the mythology, they’re kind of like The Fates. Possible nn: [name]Val[/name], [name]Kyr[/name] (like [name]Keir[/name]), Kree
[name]Vesper[/name]- very sweet and soft
[name]Valentine[/name]- I like it as a mn only because it feels so masculine but it could easily work as a girl’s fn
[name]Thessaly[/name]- very pretty, a fresher alternative to [name]Cecily[/name] and [name]Sicily[/name]/[name]Cicely[/name]
[name]Odessa[/name]- it’s got some old lady dust but so do most of today’s popular girl names
[name]Avalon[/name]- nice alternative to the uber popular [name]Ava[/name]
[name]Artemis[/name]- love how strong and feminine it is
[name]Halcyon[/name]- prefer it more on boys but it’s OK for girls. I like the nn Halcy “hal-see” or Alcy

BOYS
[name]Zephyr[/name]- love it. It’s only a GP for me because bf’s last name has a Z, so paired with [name]Zephyr[/name] there’s too much zzzzzzz
[name]Arrow[/name]- I prefer Aero
[name]Waldo[/name]- only as a mn or a nn for something like [name]Walton[/name], Waller, [name]Wallace[/name], etc
[name]Atlas[/name]- love it
[name]Marlowe[/name]- I prefer [name]Harlow[/name] but I like it
[name]Merlin[/name]- like it
[name]Darwin[/name]- I can’t shake The [name]Wild[/name] Thornberry’s association
[name]Willoughby[/name] (nn [name]Willo[/name])- very nice. I love [name]Willow[/name] for a boy but never thought of using [name]Willo[/name], it looks more masculine

EITHER
[name]Starling[/name]- I like it more for a boy. It’s different but familiar (because of [name]Sterling[/name])
[name]Quincy[/name]- never thought of this for a girl but it’s nice
[name]Dove[/name]- I like this for a girl and [name]Dov[/name] “dawv” for a boy (means bear)

GIRLS
Valkyrie- I’ve seen this before, and I really dislike it. I think it sounds awkward and I don’t think it’s usable.
[name]Vesper[/name]- It’s wearable but I don’t think it’s very pretty.
[name]Valentine[/name] - totally doable. I’d be inclined to pronounce it like the boy name, though, which I’m not exactly sure how I feel about that, but I think it’s workable.
[name]Thessaly[/name]- Definitely doable, too. I feel like I could be named this and not hate my parents for it
[name]Odessa[/name]- wearable, though not one I like,
[name]Avalon[/name]- Definite eye roll from me on this one. I think it’s trying too hard. I can see it working, though.
[name]Artemis[/name] - ditto, I don’t get this one at all. I don’t like the sound of it and I definitely wouldn’t want it to be my name.
[name]Halcyon[/name]- I kind of want to like it, but I definitely do not. I don’t know how to pronounce it, so that’s a knock against it. I’d go for Hecate or [name]Hortensia[/name], though.

BOYS
[name]Zephyr[/name]- it’s usable… I’ve seen people use it, but I don’t personally find it usable. Does that make sense?
[name]Arrow[/name]- I see the appeal, and it’s usable in a hippy-crunchy-“I like attention” kind of way. It’s a “mom blog” name like [name]Poet[/name] or [name]Boheme[/name], etc. It’s not that bad. Except when you say it, it sounds like “Aero” which makes me think chocolate.
[name]Waldo[/name]- As a middle name…? I’m not sure I could give this a green light as a first name, but then again, a lot of names on my list are of similar style. It could work, but I’m not sure if I’d want it to, haha.
[name]Atlas[/name]- I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Atlas[/name]! It’s really, really hard to pair, though, so it doesn’t sound like a reference book. I’m also pretty sure my kid would not appreciate being named [name]Atlas[/name], even though I think it’s awesome. I’m not sure it’s usable, but I do like it a lot (I also like it for the body part reference, not for the book, lol)
[name]Marlowe[/name]- Erm… it’s usable.
[name]Merlin[/name]- totally not usable even though I just saw a blog where this is one of the kids’ names. I sincerely don’t think this is a great thing to do to your kid. It doesn’t make me roll my eyes in general, but as the name of a person born now, it definitely does.
[name]Darwin[/name]- I think it has potential! [name]Dexter[/name] and [name]Dawson[/name] are good to go, and I don’t think [name]Darwin[/name] is far off. It isn’t the most appearing sounding name, in my opinion, but it’s totally usable.
[name]Willoughby[/name] (nn [name]Willo[/name])- I’m wrinkling my nose. I do have to say, I’d like [name]Willow[/name] on a boy in a hypothetical kind of way. I think [name]Willoughby[/name] is usable, but it’s not really usable under most circumstances.

EITHER
[name]Starling[/name]- I can’t figure out how this would work as anything other than a middle name. There’s a British diver with this as a last name, and it did strike me, but I don’t think it’s good as a first name,
[name]Quincy[/name]- Not for ‘either’. For a boy, sure. For a girl, no.
[name]Dove[/name]- I like this! [name]Gregory[/name] [name]Smith[/name]'s character on Rookie [name]Blue[/name] (a Canadian show about police) is [name]Dov[/name], which I think is cool. I like [name]Dove[/name] on a girl. I wouldn’t use this as a first name, though, and I wouldn’t use [name]Dove[/name] on a boy, honestly, but I do like it on a girl!

Sorry, this got to be super long!
