Your thoughts on these three?

[b]Alban

Corin

Ives[/b]

I’d love to hear your feedback on these three names — it can be as brief or as detailed as you like.

Thanks

(P.S. I have a parallel girls’ thread going too, which I’d also love your input on!)

I really like [name_m]Alban[/name_m] and [name_m]Ives[/name_m] (but I question if it’s too linked to the beauty brand). They also give me strong , dramatic ballerina vibes for some reason.

Suggestions -

  • [name_m]Apollo[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Alban[/name_m] and I really like [name_m]Ives[/name_m]. [name_u]Corin[/name_u] I’m uncertain about. It feels strong and I love similar [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] and yet it sounds too much like [name_f]Corrine[/name_f] which I don’t like. [name_m]Ives[/name_m] feels like a much cooler [name_m]Isaac[/name_m] and more distinct than [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]. Honestly, I think I may like [name_m]Alban[/name_m] because of it’s similarity to [name_u]Albany[/name_u], my hometown. It feels homey and a little magical perhaps because of how close it is to [name_m]Albus[/name_m] and thus associated with [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m].

[name_m]Alban[/name_m] - love it! I really like [name_f]Alba[/name_f] for a girl, and had though of it and ~variations for a boy, like [name_m]Albion[/name_m]. I don’t think I had seen [name_m]Alban[/name_m] before, but I dig it!

[name_u]Corin[/name_u] - I like it! It makes me think of The Chronicles of [name_f]Narnia[/name_f], one of the many little stories had a young boy named this, so I think it’ll forever be a ~magical name in my mind. It also reminds of [name_u]Koren[/name_u], the Hebrew name. I’m sure both have vastly different roots, but I like both.

[name_m]Ives[/name_m] - I’m not a fan, tbh. I’m not sure I even have a good reason, other than just a distaste

[name_u]Corin[/name_u] - as other Berries pointed out it sounds like the feminine [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] to me. [name_m]Corwin[/name_m] sounds much more distinct to me.

[name_m]Alban[/name_m] - make me think of the country Albania, [name_f]Alba[/name_f], [name_m]Albion[/name_m] thus white. The sound of the name feels heavy and definite. I prefer a lighter [name_m]Albie[/name_m] or Auben or in light of [name_m]Ives[/name_m] maybe [name_m]Ilan[/name_m] (means tree)?

[name_m]Ives[/name_m] - [name_m]French[/name_m] even though the spelling is different it makes my mind skip to cosmetics. If you live in a [name_m]French[/name_m] speaking country I’d say this would be my choice. Otherwise maybe [name_m]Ivan[/name_m]/[name_m]Ivar[/name_m].

[name_m]Alban[/name_m] - I really like this one! I definitely prefer it to [name_f]Alba[/name_f].

[name_u]Corin[/name_u] - sounds too much like the feminine [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] to me

[name_m]Ives[/name_m] - I like the look of it, but not the sound - I can’t help but think ‘hives’ when I say it out loud, sorry

[name_m]Alban[/name_m] - I really like this - the mix of sounds is distinct yet familiar and it has a good feel to it

[name_u]Corin[/name_u] - I think it does sound very similar to [name_f]Corinne[/name_f] but I actually quite like that it feels more unisex - there’s something adventurous and rugged about the name

[name_m]Ives[/name_m] - I love the strong I sound of the name but this is one I prefer as a middle - I can’t imagine calling someone it as a first name for some reason

Thank you! I love these three but I’m never quite sure about adding them to my list… I think I may go ahead!

[name_m]Alban[/name_m]: This is a fine name, but it reminds me a bit too much of [name_m]Albus[/name_m]. I prefer other [name_m]Al[/name_m]- names like [name_u]Alden[/name_u].

[name_u]Corin[/name_u]: I knew a kid named this in college and I really liked it. I think it’s very wearable and has a unique but recognizable sound. Definitely a sweet-spot name.

[name_m]Ives[/name_m]: Honestly this sounds like a pretentious movie villain to me. I tend to have pretty down-to-earth taste so it might just be me, but I wouldn’t do it.

I’m personally not much of a fan of [name_m]Alban[/name_m] or [name_u]Corin[/name_u], but [name_m]Ives[/name_m] is really lovely! If I had to rank them, it would be [name_m]Ives[/name_m] first, [name_m]Alban[/name_m] second and [name_u]Corin[/name_u] third.

i only like [name_u]Corin[/name_u]. Other two dont even sound like names.

I love the name [name_m]Alban[/name_m] most and also love the name [name_u]Albany[/name_u] or [name_m]Alby[/name_m].
I don’t like [name_m]Ives[/name_m] as it just reminds me of Hives.
Not keen on [name_u]Corin[/name_u] at all but as another user said [name_u]Corbin[/name_u] is a great alternative.

I really like [name_m]Alban[/name_m]. Sounds very sweet and friendly. I’d definitely want to be friends with the person. Also think [name_m]Albie[/name_m] is a super cute nickname. (and love [name_f]Alba[/name_f] for a girl!)
I want to like [name_u]Corin[/name_u], but as said by other posters, it just reminds me of [name_f]Corrine[/name_f] (which I’m not a huge fan of) I do like [name_u]Cory[/name_u].
[name_m]Ives[/name_m] is nice. I’m unsure if I like it or not. It sounds edgy, but also kind of posh maybe? I do like it more than [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], though. (and I like [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] a lot)

[name_m]Alban[/name_m] - I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Alban[/name_m]! He’s just the coolest. A take on an ancient [name_m]Roman[/name_m] name, but he feels so modern; so unusual but so wearable; I love him with [name_f]Juno[/name_f] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u], too! One of my favorite names of all time. (Weirdly, he’s never on my list, but I’m always giddy when I come across him!)

[name_u]Corin[/name_u] - really nice, although I admit to preferring [name_m]Torin[/name_m] myself! It’s still a nice name, though!

[name_m]Ives[/name_m] - I like him a lot–I’ve seen him in both girls’ and boys’ combos on Nameberry ([name_f]Amalia[/name_f] [name_m]Ives[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Jackson[/name_m] [name_m]Ives[/name_m] are the standouts–I adore BOTH combos equally!), but I’d prefer him as a middle name. I’m not sure I can imagine a little [name_m]Ives[/name_m], but I think he’s charming as a middle.

I’d probably rank them [name_m]Alban[/name_m], [name_m]Ives[/name_m], and [name_u]Corin[/name_u], if that helps at all.

[name_m]Ives[/name_m] is my favorite by far. It’s gentle and calm and just gives me a feeling of peace. I picture a very charming man with this name, rugged and outdoorsy but very sensitive, smart and worldly.
The other 2, though uncommon, feel very bland to me. Sorry.

Ooh, you have two of my favourite names here - [name_m]Ives[/name_m] and [name_m]Alban[/name_m].

The wonderful thing about [name_m]Alban[/name_m] is how strong and well-rounded he is - there’s something playful, smiling and boyish about him, but there’s also room for solemnity and sophistication thanks to St. [name_m]Alban[/name_m]. I also find the name’s etymology fascinating, since it probably originally meant “world” and now means “solstice” in Modern Welsh.

[name_m]Ives[/name_m] is such a woodsy, earthy name for me, at the same time as having quite an intellectual quality. Like [name_m]Alban[/name_m], [name_m]Ives[/name_m] also feels really wearable and human, and I can picture it on a person of any age and in any walk of life. I slightly prefer [name_m]Yves[/name_m] and [name_m]Ivor[/name_m], but I love them all, as well as [name_m]Ivo[/name_m].

[name_u]Corin[/name_u] is nice too, but I have a hard time picturing it on an ordinary human, since it feels very “fantasy world” to me - probably because of [name_m]Prince[/name_m] [name_u]Corin[/name_u] in The Horse and His Boy.

I like all of these names. [name_m]Alban[/name_m] would definitely be my favorite. It has an old world sophistication without being easily dated, and that makes it more accessible than similar names like [name_m]Albus[/name_m].

[name_u]Corin[/name_u] has the same quality and I can see it appealing to a lot more people than [name_m]Alban[/name_m] honestly.

I think [name_m]Ives[/name_m] seems the most accessible of the three and packs a lot of punch for only 4 letters, but I prefer similar names like [name_m]Iver[/name_m], [name_m]Ivan[/name_m], and [name_m]Yves[/name_m].

[name_m]Alban[/name_m] - is this pronounced ALL-buhn or [name_m]AL[/name_m]-buhn? I don’t mind it, whereas I love [name_m]Aldous[/name_m].

[name_u]Corin[/name_u] - I immediately think of [name_u]Corin[/name_u] Redgrave. Not sure if it’s pronounced with first syllable rhyming with door or like first syllable of sorrow?

[name_m]Yves[/name_m] - like the look of this but would you pronounce it the same as [name_f]Eve[/name_f] - therefore confusing with popular girl’s name? I only know [name_m]Yves[/name_m] as a [name_m]French[/name_m] name. I like [name_m]Ivo[/name_m] much more.

I seem to have pronunciation problems with all these!
