I’m familiar with the story of Veles, and I feel like it is a dark, heavy name to give to a real child… I think it’s usable in the middle name spot, but as a first name, I’m not sure.
I love mythological names like [name_m]Orpheus[/name_m], [name_f]Hestia[/name_f], [name_m]Ares[/name_m], Baldr, [name_f]Eurydice[/name_f] and so on, but I’d only ever use them as a middle name. On the other hand, most people won’t be familiar with the story of Veles (I think, also depends on where you live), so if you really love it, why not?
I am thinking that it really wouldn’t be much different from choosing a name that also has dark connotations, yet is in use by some, such as [name_f]Persephone[/name_f] (Greek goddess of death and harvest). [name_m]Orpheus[/name_m] is kinda dark too… as is [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]… so it seems like dark connotations do not keep ALL parents from using such names…
Another plus point is indeed that most people won’t even be familiar with the God, let alone the story.
I see that the poll so far is totally divided on it, which reflects my own feeling! Can I get more votes, y’all? Thanks
