Your Top 10 Female Nature Names?

Here are mine. Keep in mind I garden, so I don’t consider names of flowers or shrubs as trivial or silly. Except maybe [name_u]Daffy[/name_u].

1. [name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
Not only do I love meadows and fields, but I love the sound of this word.

2. [name_f]Blossom[/name_f]
It’s the double s’s that make me love this word and name, the superabundance of spring.

3. [name_u]Cerulean[/name_u]
For the sky blue beauty and for the sound. I cannot imagine a male [name_u]Cerulean[/name_u] but definitely a female.

4. [name_u]Linden[/name_u]
A beautiful tree, and I love the calmness of the word/name.

5. [name_f]Azalea[/name_f]
Like [name_f]Agatha[/name_f], but less haggard and more floral. Again, it had me at the extra vowel.

6. Cedrus/[name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
Strong sounding names with an evergreen appeal.

7. [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Chrysanthemum[/name_f]
Fall flowers, both honoring the graves of our ancestors.

8. [name_f]Laurel[/name_f] and [name_f]Daphne[/name_f]
The ancient Greeks and the nickname [name_f]Lolly[/name_f]. [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] in [name_u]January[/name_u] is the best fragrance.

9. [name_m]Russell[/name_m]
Forgot this on my male nature list, but I like it for a female too. Nature because of its exquisite sound, the rustling of leaves in the wind.

10. [name_f]Holly[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]
Christmasy, but not exclusively so, and full of bright berries.

I love nature names, and naturey meanings. Most name combinations of my have a nature name in them, or meaning something natural. ([name_f]Rhoda[/name_f] means rose, [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f] means emerald, and so on.)

In no particular order…

[name_f]Plum[/name_f]: I think this is my favourite.
[name_f]Ffion[/name_f]: (means “foxglove” in Welsh) this is so petite and pixie-like.
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]/[name_f]Sylvaine[/name_f]: (means “of the forest”) I love foresty names.
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]: Pure, naturey spunk.
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]: I have been warming to this lately.
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]: They don’t exactly have the best taste, but [name_f]Olive[/name_f] Greek is one of my favourite colours.
[name_u]Bird[/name_u]/[name_f]Birdie[/name_f]: [name_f]Lark[/name_f] and [name_u]Wren[/name_u] are lovely names, but I really love [name_u]Bird[/name_u].
[name_f]Delphinia[/name_f]: Swoon.
[name_u]June[/name_u]: as a first name only. In NZ, it’s winter in [name_u]June[/name_u], but [name_u]June[/name_u] always makes me think of flowers and birds blooming. And it makes me think of the lovely [name_u]June[/name_u] [name_u]Carter[/name_u] [name_m]Cash[/name_m] too.

I could only list nine! Maybe it’s because I am so picky?

I am going to break the rules again, and list more than 10.

[name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_u]Winter[/name_u], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_f]Lavender[/name_f], [name_f]Snow[/name_f], [name_f]Eira[/name_f], [name_f]Briar[/name_f], [name_u]Bay[/name_u], [name_u]Lake[/name_u], [name_f]Maple[/name_f], [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], [name_f]Laurel[/name_f], [name_f]Plum[/name_f], [name_f]Calla[/name_f], [name_u]Dove[/name_u], [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_f]Lilac[/name_f]

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] (Though [name_f]Willow[/name_f] [name_m]Smith[/name_m] has kind of ruined it for me…)
[name_f]Meadow[/name_f]
[name_f]Flower[/name_f]
[name_f]Rose[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_f]Fern[/name_f]

[name_f]Luna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Daisy[/name_f]

I love nature names!

[name_m]How[/name_m] can I have forgotten those?

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce [name_f]Ffion[/name_f]?

[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Snow[/name_f]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Lavender[/name_f]
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]
[name_u]Frost[/name_u]
[name_f]Senna[/name_f]
[name_m]Phelan[/name_m]

[name_f]Ffion[/name_f] is pronounced fee-on. I have always liked Welsh names, and [name_f]Ffion[/name_f] is one of my favourites.

Ooh, how fun! I’ll play!

[name_f]Willow[/name_f] - I have a deep relationship with willow trees…they were my sanctuary growing up. They seem fragile, always bending with the wind, but that very flexibility is what makes them strong. There’s the wise and nurturing Grandmother [name_f]Willow[/name_f] of my childhood (via Disney’s Pocahantas), but even more significantly, there is the unforgettable [name_f]Willow[/name_f] Rosenburg of [name_f]Buffy[/name_f] the Vampire Slayer. There are few characters I identify with the way I do [name_f]Willow[/name_f], and her journey from shy bookworm to powerful witch to out-of-control addict to scarred, older, and wiser soul perfectly mirrors my own. This name will always be one of the first in my heart.

[name_f]Snow[/name_f] - I am head over heels for this name lately. Soft and crisp at the same time, delicate and vast. I love the obvious winter connection. I also associate this name with a pivotal character in one of my favorite books, someone gentle and strong who quietly rescues the one she loves…and of course there is the beautifully re-imagined [name_f]Snow[/name_f] White of Once Upon a Time (I definitely prefer the woodsy huntress [name_f]Snow[/name_f] to the [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] version)

[name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] - I’m convinced these are the most perfect flowers known to man. Such pretty dangling purple and white clusters, unbelievably fragrant in the Southern sun. This name inevitably reminds me of home and summer. Endlessly optimistic, but mysterious and enchanting as well.

[name_f]Lavender[/name_f] - Another sentimental connection. [name_f]Lavender[/name_f] was the first essential oil I ever used, and was singularly responsible for setting me on the path to my dreams of being an aromatherapist, apothecary, and practitioner of herbal medicine. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a whiff of that shadowy purple-green scent is enough to soothe my weary soul, and the oil is still my go-to all-purpose cure for anything from insomnia to stress to a pulled muscle. I associate the name with gentleness, peace, and healing.

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] - My ultimate magical watery word name. I think of mermaids and ethereally waving kelp beds and sunken ships overflowing with ancient buried treasure. I love the iridescence and sheen of pearls more than I have ever loved the “bling” look of the more sparkling gemstones. I fell in love with [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] after hearing it used as a name for the first time on a TV show…the character owned the local apothecary, which makes me even happier with the name.

[name_u]Wren[/name_u] - [name_u]Wren[/name_u] is full of surprises. A brown, quiet-looking, cheeky little bird with such a delightful trilling song. This is another connection to my childhood home, as wrens were my state bird. There is also a tremendously epic retelling of Arthurian legend in which the main character, [name_m]Merlin[/name_m]'s daughter, goes by [name_u]Wren[/name_u]. And it’s the first name Husband has ever voluntarily suggested, so it gets major brownie points for that!

[name_u]River[/name_u] - In addition to its lovely watery imagery, this is the ultimate badass sci-fi heroine name. There’s [name_u]River[/name_u] [name_m]Tam[/name_m] from Firefly with her uniquely brilliant and fragmented mind, psychic abilities, and insane martial arts skills. And there’s the [name_m]Doctor[/name_m]'s [name_u]River[/name_u] Song…saucy, fiesty, stubborn, compassionate, and resourceful. Two fabulous role models for a little lady!

[name_f]Saffron[/name_f] - I would use this name in a heartbeat. I love the soft sounds, the double F, the spicy exoticism. I love the look and feel and smell and taste of saffron…the color is so rich and vibrant. Also a powerful healing reference, as the herb is used in many cures and even thought to be anticarcinogenic. It’s a total GP name though…Husband vetoed her because of the thief on Firefly (who I personally think adds to the charm…but he does not agree).

I know that isn’t a full 10, but after this point we drop to a bunch of names that I love with various degrees of enthusiasm, but none as much as the eight I’ve listed here  If we were doing the word name genre, I could easily fill out a top 10 and then some, but for strictly nature, these are all of my top tier choices
