((This would probably change tomorrow, but here’s my tops right at this moment, in no specific order))
Boys
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] - It sounds very Euro masculine. I’ve always been completely obsessed with [name_u]London[/name_u] and this just sounds 100% like a posh [name_u]London[/name_u] guy to me. [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] is super classic but I’ve never met one, so it’s unique around my area. [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u] I’ve always thought sounded magnificent together and I like them both, but not enough to use them as given names. But as middles they’re ideal for me (I like 2-3-1 syllable pairings) so this is probably my #1 combo at the moment.
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] - It just sounds so Irish (even though [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is Scottish) that I just am in love with it. [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is a name I go back and forth on…I love C names for boys, but something about [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is hit and miss with me. But paired with [name_m]Oisin[/name_m], I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] it. I love [name_m]Oisin[/name_m], but since it would be such a hard name for anyone in my country to pronounce correctly I prefer it in the middle spot…but I feel like it’s hard to find a name that flows nicely and doesn’t clash. [name_m]Callum[/name_m] [name_m]Oisin[/name_m] sounds divine to my ears. It’s a name I’ve said to myself several times and it’s just…enchanting somehow lol
[name_m]Lucian[/name_m] [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Thoreau[/name_m] - Probably a bit Hipster…I don’t care. [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] is just badass classic epic manliness, and it gives me [name_m]Luc[/name_m] as a nickname without having to go with the done-to-death [name_m]Lucas[/name_m]. [name_u]Everett[/name_u] is modern and a bit rustic and [name_m]Thoreau[/name_m] is just old school literary nerd chic. This combo gives me pretty much everything I love, but I don’t know if it’s too much of what I want. I think it sounds divine, but I know it probably comes off as pretentious
[name_m]Miles[/name_m] [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] [name_m]Chace[/name_m] - Another mix of classic, modern and literary…albeit less hipster than the previous ^^. [name_m]Miles[/name_m] is just jazzy and makes me think of the 1920s, which I adore. [name_u]Ellery[/name_u] is my slightly obscure literary guilty pleasure. And [name_m]Chace[/name_m] I don’t know how I came up with that one lol This is the only combo where I use the name [name_m]Chace[/name_m]…I just think it fits
[name_u]Calder[/name_u] [name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] - [name_u]Calder[/name_u] is a little trendy now, so I worry about it aging badly…but I’ve had it on my list for years because I’m a massive hockey fan and I wanted some kind of connection without being tacky or blatant. [name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] is a middle name combo that I pair with almost every first name at one point or another. It’s probably my favorite MN combo. I love [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] on its own, (thanks to [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] [name_m]Gilles[/name_m] for that one) but I only love [name_m]Julian[/name_m] if it’s paired with [name_m]Elijah[/name_m].
(Others that just missed:)
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_u]Elias[/name_u]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_m]Malone[/name_m]
[name_m]Findley[/name_m] [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m]
[name_m]Talon[/name_m] Syracuse
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
Girls
[name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - I don’t know what I love about [name_f]Ava[/name_f]-[name_f]Jane[/name_f]. I usually hate hyphenated first names, and for a while I was considering using just [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] as the full combo…but it felt unfinished. And I knew that I’d always call her [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] anyway, so I decided [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] was just going to be the full first name. If I don’t have to hyphenate it, I won’t. [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] did come from [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m]…yes I know the [name_m]Hamlet[/name_m] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] goes crazy and dies…but it’s such a gorgeous name that I don’t think the name should be relegated on one “bad” character in one play. And if [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] can be a perfectly sensible name, I think [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] can, as well. It’s a name I think we can “take back” so to speak.
Illyria [name_f]Jovienne[/name_f] - Illyria is another (less morose) Shakespearean name…although technically according to the database here it is not a name :-/ I adore Twelfth [name_m]Night[/name_m], but I’m not a fan of [name_f]Viola[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]…but I was always drawn to Illyria. I don’t think it’s at ALL out of the realm of normal names. It reminds me a lot of some of my other favorites ([name_f]Emilia[/name_f], [name_f]Iliana[/name_f], [name_f]Aria[/name_f], etc) only a bit more stylish and “frilly,” if you will. And [name_f]Jovienne[/name_f] I think sounds divine. I have both [name_f]Vienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Jovie[/name_f] on my list, but I think [name_f]Jovienne[/name_f] is precious and unique without being tacky…it’s one of the few mashup names that I don’t mind. And technically I believe it’s a legit name anyway.
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f] [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] - [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] is both sweet and kind of spunky. I can picture it on a tall, raven haired tattooed chick and a quiet little bohemian brunette and everything in between. Feminine, classic, underused, another name that sounds very European to me. And [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] is a name I wasn’t familiar with until seeing [name_m]Midnight[/name_m] In [name_u]Paris[/name_u]. It was mentioned in one very small, very quick line ([name_m]Tom[/name_m] Hiddleston’s character says “Oh, [name_f]Delphine[/name_f]” or something equally inconsequential) and I’ve been hooked since.
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] - [name_f]Saskia[/name_f] is such a unique name that I don’t know if I can picture it on anybody…but I feel like if there was ever any baby girl that fit the name [name_f]Saskia[/name_f], it would be one of mine. It’s kind of spunky and boyish, but wildly feminine and beautiful and versatile…and I love the nickname Sasi. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is such a classic name that I think it balances the offbeat first a bit, without clashing. I think they work well together and flow easily. I like the initials SE, as well, because I could make the nn [name_f]Essie[/name_f] work, in addition to Sasi. I like having options, especially with a more difficult or unique first name.
[name_f]Irie[/name_f] [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] [name_u]James[/name_u] - This is the most modern/unique/new age of all of my combos, but it’s also sort of the most personal and meaningful. [name_f]Irie[/name_f] is a Jamaican word and it means something along the lines of feeling pleasant, happiness, general contentedness…but in a less simplistic, more spiritual context, like perfect peace and harmony in yourself. This is a name I first came to when I met one of my best friends several years ago. He identifies strongly with the Rastafari movement and it was something I came to respect and understand and appreciate over the years, and the word [name_f]Irie[/name_f] that he had tattooed on his chest always resonated with me. I don’t know if [name_f]Irie[/name_f] is something that I would use, though…I haven’t come across any negative reactions when I’ve mentioned it in public…but I’m not sure if there would be any cultural backlash from a white American girl using [name_f]Irie[/name_f] for her daughter’s name, as much as I would love to. I know a lot of people think caucasians shouldn’t use names that come out of minority cultures, and I wouldn’t want any kind of negativity to fall on my future child. But I just adore it and it makes me sad knowing that I probably can never use it. It’s such a beautiful name and meaning. As for the rest of the name, [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] references my favorite season (I would live in a state of perpetual [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] if I could, no lie) and [name_u]James[/name_u] is a literary name for me, after my favorite character of all time. It is a masculine name, I know, but I like it for a girls middle…especially in this combo.
