I voted for [name]Mia[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name] because I think they both have a spunky quality. I would just call him [name]Oliver[/name] with no nickname. I love [name]Samuel[/name] too but does it flow well with your “L” surname? Two back-to-back l’s are often not ideal for flow. Would his nn [name]Sam[/name] be ok with your one-syllable surname? [name]Cooper[/name] is a very trendy occupational name so it would be my third choice.

I picked [name]Oliver[/name]. It’s such a handsome name, and I don’t think [name]Ollie[/name] has much of a chance of sticking, particularly if you don’t use it all the time and don’t introduce him to people as [name]Ollie[/name] instead of [name]Oliver[/name].

I’m going to have to disagree with the previous post because I think the nickname [name]Ollie[/name] is inevitable at some point in your son’s life. [name]Even[/name] if you don’t introduce him as [name]Ollie[/name] to other people as he grows up he probably will be shortened by friends of yours, friends of his, teachers etc. Also, at some point your [name]Oliver[/name] may actually want to known as [name]Ollie[/name].

[name]Oliver[/name] is the most popular boys name in the UK and I know [name]Oliver[/name]'s ranging from newborns to 23 years old and every single one of them is called Oli/[name]Ollie[/name]/[name]Olly[/name].

I voted for [name]Samuel[/name], it’s classic and fits nicely with [name]Mia[/name]. I don’t particularly like the nickname [name]Sam[/name] and that’s why I’d never use [name]Samuel[/name] but its lovely on other people’s children.

I like [name]Oliver[/name]! I agree, I don’t like [name]Ollie[/name] though. Despite this, I still voted for it. I think you can get away without people calling him [name]Ollie[/name]. Maybe that’s naive, but lots of parents prefer full names. Nameberries can be very nickname-y!!

Thanks everyone. We’re sticking with [name]Oliver[/name]!

[name]Oliver[/name] is lovely! Great choice!

I voted [name]Samuel[/name] as it’s a refreshing classic that is not used so often these days. [name]Oliver[/name] is a great name, though, but I am with your Dh on the nn “[name]Ollie[/name].” It takes away from the name [name]IMO[/name]. I think it would be super refreshing to meet an [name]Oliver[/name] that really goes by [name]Oliver[/name] though! I just posted a thread recently on the name [name]Patrick[/name] with my own concerns of nn’s, and it seems like the consensus was (and I agree) that if you really introduce your son w/his full name every time, it will likely stick… or at the very least, he’ll identify with it as his primary name even if the name occasionally gets shortened when people are in a rush and looking for a short cut.

That said, as with any nickname, your [name]Oliver[/name] could decide he prefers [name]Ollie[/name] later on, and then there’s not much you can do.

I just wanted to say I love all 3 of your name choices, tough decision! For some reason though I see [name]Oliver[/name] or [name]Samuel[/name] complementing [name]Mia[/name] better as a sibset (but [name]Cooper[/name] is an awesome name). Since you said your surname starts with L, I ruled [name]Samuel[/name] out because of that & voted for [name]Oliver[/name].

As for your husband’s nickname concern, I think if you both always introduce him as [name]Oliver[/name] to everyone that others will follow suit & call him by that. Or maybe you could use a mn with [name]Oliver[/name] that would yield some other nn options that hubby would like.

I was torn between [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Sam[/name], but ended up choosing [name]Oliver[/name] in the end.
