Ys

Sorry to bother y’all, as I’ve posted these before on the girls’ names forum. I’m madly in love with [name]Cy[/name] and Ywen (pronounced like “yuwen” or “eewan”.) Wondering if they’re too much side by side. I don’t mind the run-togetherness so much, but is [name]Cy[/name] Ywen too severe? Which of these do you like? All names except for [name]Cy[/name] and [name]Ginger[/name] have (direct or indirect) family significance. Any you think I should nix? Thanks so much for your help. I have become somewhat name-obsessed, as child-making has been a challenge and I’m channeling my anxiety.

BOYS:
[name]Cy[/name] [name]Quincy[/name]
[name]Cy[/name] Ywen
Ywen [name]Randolf[/name]
Ywen [name]Marsh[/name]
Ywen Ösel

GIRLS:
[name]Celia[/name] Dear
[name]Acacia[/name] [name]Xenia[/name] or [name]Xenia[/name] [name]Acacia[/name]
[name]Ginger[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]

OTHER GIRLS’ NAMES UNDER CONSIDERATION:
[name]Enid[/name]
[name]Nesta[/name]
[name]Anwen[/name]
[name]Eluned[/name]
[name]Elowen[/name]
[name]Marged[/name]
[name]Catrin[/name]
Elliw

While it’s not ideal with back-to-back y’s, I don’t mind the sound of [name]Cy[/name] Ywen. It does help that one “y” is lower case and the other is a capital letter. I think it looks better than [name]Cy[/name] [name]Quincy[/name] (with the two lower case y’s). I like Ywen [name]Marsh[/name] too. I love [name]Celia[/name] but with dear it sounds like there should be a request added: “Could you pass me the pepper, [name]Celia[/name] dear?” I don’t the heavy a’s in the [name]Acacia[/name]/[name]Xenia[/name] combos. [name]Ginger[/name] is a guilty pleasure name for me but I wouldn’t use it for a first name (maybe it’s better in the middle spot). [name]Ginger[/name] is often used as a derogatory term for a “red-haired” child so it’s associated with teasing and bullying. I love [name]Elowen[/name], [name]Anwen[/name] and [name]Eluned[/name].

[name]Elowen[/name] [name]Ginger[/name]
[name]Elowen[/name] [name]Celia[/name]
[name]Elowen[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Eluned[/name] [name]Acacia[/name]
[name]Eluned[/name] [name]Xenia[/name]
[name]Anwen[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Nesta[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]

I love [name]Cy[/name] Ywen and Ywen [name]Marsh[/name]!!!

[name]Celia[/name] Dear - Sounds a bit like a character from a children’s movie. But it is cute.
[name]Xenia[/name] [name]Acacia[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this one, it’s gorgeous!
[name]Ginger[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] - I’m not a fan of [name]Ginger[/name], but I know you are and it does sound adorable with classic [name]Margaret[/name].

[name]Nesta[/name] [name]Elowen[/name], [name]Anwen[/name] [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Celia[/name] are my suggestions. You can put [name]Nesta[/name] with anything really, I [name]LOVE[/name] this name.

Thanks Gals!

[name]Cy[/name] Ywen and Ywen [name]Marsh[/name] huh? Cool. Having just two names kicking around is manageable. Those two probably have the most significance anyway.

[name]Quincy[/name] still absolutely slays me, but [name]Mischa[/name] I appreciate your insight about the repeated ending sounds. Did you know [name]John[/name] [name]Quincy[/name] [name]Adams[/name] basically brought the idea of a middle name to common use in the United States? It wasn’t really done before that. So [name]Quincy[/name] is like the er… QUINtessential middle name!

[name]Marsh[/name] is from my husband’s side. It has a great family character attached to it but I can’t get past the squishy mud sound it brings to mind. [name]Anderson[/name] is another name on his side. Ywen [name]Anderson[/name]? A little square.

I’m quite liking this [name]Anwen[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] idea. Still warming up to the Welsh names, but they are really appealing.

[name]Celia[/name] Dear… yes I know it’s twee in a way. But you had to know my grandmother Dear. I would be tickled to pass on her nn.

Anyone else willing to weigh in? Here Bladey Bladey…

[name]Love[/name] [name]Elowen[/name]

[name]Cy[/name] Ywen, [name]Cy[/name] [name]Quincy[/name], and Ywen [name]Marsh[/name] are utterly gorgeous names. I would have to say that while i like the sound of [name]Cy[/name] [name]Quincy[/name] probably a bit more than the others, it does bother me a bit that the last two letters of [name]Quincy[/name] are [name]Cy[/name]. Ywen [name]Quincy[/name] would be to die for as well. I definitely don’t see [name]Cy[/name] Ywen as too severe at all; in fact, think it sounds quite soft and lovely.

From the girl’s list, I have to say, I’m in love with [name]Celia[/name] Dear and [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Margaret[/name]. Maybe it’s because I’m totally drawn to a more whimsical name paired with a more serious one, but [name]Celia[/name] Dear is just so darling, and [name]Ginger[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] so spunky.
Using the rest of your names:
[name]Elowen[/name] [name]Enid[/name] strikes me as quite the pair. It has the same problem of repeating letters with the En, but it’s less of an issue because it isn’t alone like with [name]Cy[/name].
[name]Catrin[/name] is absolutely gorgeous, though I’m not quite sure what to pair with it. [name]Catrin[/name] [name]Elowen[/name], maybe? A lot of your names seem to having repeating sounds, but they could be used as sister names. It’s just in making combos that I’m having an issue.

Good luck!

Thanks Sweetpea. I like your screen-name by the way. [name]Don[/name]'t you wish Sweetpea were a legit name? Maybe someone will use it as a middle name. It’s such a beautiful flower, and there’s that Popeye connection…

Meganks: Thanks! I think you picked all my favorites, so that’s reassuring. [name]Do[/name] you really like Ywen [name]Marsh[/name]? I’m still not sold on [name]Marsh[/name], but I’m glad others think it’s useable. [name]Cy[/name] Ywen is probably my favorite right now… With [name]Cy[/name], I was thinking about occasionally calling him (nonexistent child) “[name]Simon[/name]” as a nickname once in a while, like a lengthened nick. DH dislikes [name]Simon[/name], so his given name would be [name]Cy[/name] which we both love. Ywen [name]Quincy[/name] is too much tree in one name for me. [name]Quincy[/name] will either stay with [name]Cy[/name], or some other first name that has yet to be found.
[name]Happy[/name] that you like [name]Celia[/name] and [name]Ginger[/name]! [name]Catrin[/name] [name]Elowen[/name], [name]Elowen[/name] [name]Enid[/name]… [name]Enid[/name] [name]Catrin[/name]… All great too.
