It’s taken a bit of time to convince the other half, but he admitted that [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] and [name_m]Yukio[/name_m] are contenders (on a long list for boys at the moment!). Personally, I prefer [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] but he prefers [name_m]Yukio[/name_m]. We are looking to potentially match this with [name_m]Michelangelo[/name_m] for a middle name, but nothing set in stone yet. Which do you think is better, or anything of similar origin you can suggest? Many thanks.
I like both [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] and [name_m]Yukio[/name_m] (though @tfzolghadr makes a valid point about potential “yucky” taunts in an English-speaking country), but I have to say that I think it sounds pretty odd with [name_m]Michelangelo[/name_m] in the middle. The names are so clearly of completely different origins - not always a deal-breaker, but in this case I just don’t think it works. Plus, to me they have completely different “feels”: [name_u]Yuki[/name_u]/[name_m]Yukio[/name_m] feels modern, zippy and lighthearted, while [name_m]Michelangelo[/name_m] feels quite heavily cultured, romantic and majestic. I just don’t think they work together - sorry.
I think you do want something short, bold and international (like [name_u]Yuki[/name_u]) with [name_m]Michelangelo[/name_m]:
[name_m]Lev[/name_m]
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] or [name_u]Ara[/name_u]
[name_u]Avi[/name_u]
[name_u]Max[/name_u]
[name_u]Rafe[/name_u]
[name_m]Zev[/name_m]
[name_m]Oren[/name_m]
[name_m]Cy[/name_m]
[name_m]Tor[/name_m]
I live in the US and know people named [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] and the strong YOO sound is intuitive to everyone I have ever heard try to pronounce it. I wouldn’t worry about the similarity to yucky, I think kids are more likely to make fun of [name_m]Yukio[/name_m] for sounding like yugioh, but I wouldn’t worry about that either. [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] is my preference of the two as well, I really like it! Must agree that [name_m]Michelangelo[/name_m] sounds a bit strange next to [name_u]Yuki[/name_u] though.
