Would be joining [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
I don’t care about the [name_u]Legend[/name_u] of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]; I think of [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_m]Sayre[/name_m] [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m].
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] seems in the style of [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]. I love it, but am getting some strange looks and “oh, you couldn’t do that” comments.
I can’t get away from the game connection (even though I don’t play). [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I see this name, I just think of the game and wonder why people want to use it as a name.

Well, I obviously did ‘that’ and named my daughter [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] so I’m very biased. I love [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] we debated between [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and [name_f]Selma[/name_f]. But I thought [name_f]Selma[/name_f] leaned more to the sweet side. We’ve only gotten positive comments about our daughter’s name. I think [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is in the [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], [name_f]Vera[/name_f], [name_f]Cecile[/name_f], [name_f]Etta[/name_f] style which we love. Strong, but sweet.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] I think [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] goes with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]? I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is a nice sibling for [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is okay maybe a bit too regular.
I think it’s a great name! Sounds cool and spunky! Wouldn’t say it exactly “goes” with the sibset but I never care much about that anyway. She’s an individual! I say go with it! I don’t think you’ll regret it!
I find [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] to be very eccentric compared to the prim-and-proper, nice [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Jane[/name_f]. For some reason, those two names together make me think of the kids from [name_f]Mary[/name_f] Poppins, [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Banks[/name_m], and the idea of sticking a [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] in that image would be like adding a Mckelti or [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] to the mix. I know a little [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], who is about a year-and-a-half old and whose parents named her after a deceased relative, so the name itself isn’t exactly something that I can’t associate to a real child and not the game, because I do know one. However, it feels way too connected to the game. Maybe that isn’t a huge deal breaker to you. I personally couldn’t/wouldn’t use it, but that’s just me.
Btw, I love your other children’s names!!! [name_f]Jane[/name_f] is so beautiful and I adore [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but can’t use [name_m]Henry[/name_m] due to family situations, but it’s still a great name
Forget the game associations (doesn’t seem at all harmful or offensive to me so it’s a-okay), forget matching. If you love [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] and you feel like it’s the name for your daughter, go for it. Sometimes we try to make everything fit or match and end up settling instead of choosing a name that for us is meaningful and “the one”. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a wonderful and underused name that I think deserves a lot more love. To be perfectly honest, if I hadn’t a [name_f]Ziva[/name_f] already, [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] would be one of my top choices if this baby is a girl.
You could and you should! [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a beautiful, quirky name. Your daughter may get game jokes sometimes, but if you’re ok with that, why not? People who know her will quickly learn to associate her name with her rather than just the game.
Thank you all for weighing in! This forum has been so helpful
And thank you, [name_f]Alyssa[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] have been favorites for years, now were scrambling to find names we love as much for #3. It’s proving to be a challenge!
I absolutely adore [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]! I’ve always associated it with [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] (I actually didn’t even know the game existed until somewhat recently). I think it’s a beautiful name, and while it might seem “out there” in comparison to [name_f]Jane[/name_f] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m], I think the [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] history helps [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] hold it’s own in the sibset.
Ultimately, you have to go with the name you love the most. Best of luck!
I love [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] for your sibset! The pairing with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] might be a bit of a style clash, but I absolutely love [name_f]Jane[/name_f], so I don’t think it’s a problem. It’s a nice name to spice up a classic sibset
I like [name_f]Zelda[/name_f], I love her zazzyness, and quirkiness. I do think she’d be a little out of place with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] though, as they are very traditional names.
That being said, [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] isn’t the worst combination in the world. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] still has something classy about her (its not as if you want [name_f]Jane[/name_f], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], and Mckynzi, or something overly trendy or kr8tive) . And at the end of the day, it doesn’t really matter if sibsets don’t match completely!
What is it you like about [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]? Is it the literary connection? The Z-sound? Something else?
For me, [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] doesn’t fit well w/[name_f]Jane[/name_f] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m], which sound like very traditional British names. If you like the Z-sound & letter, perhaps [name_f]Zara[/name_f] or [name_f]Zandra[/name_f], which are both used by famous Britons, would match [name_f]Jane[/name_f] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m] better. But it’s not me who’s choosing the name…if you really love [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] then go for it!
I think [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a very nice name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] very random with [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I’m not sure I like them together.
I never heard that siblings were supposed to have names that “go together” until I started reading ideas on Nameberry. I suppose it happens somewhat naturally when the same parents name all their kids and their tastes don’t change. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] might not “go with” [name_f]Jane[/name_f] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m], but I say release the term “sibset” and let the children be themselves, not worrying about if they make a good set. I like the name [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]. You will frequently deal with people who only or mostly associate the name with the massive video game franchise. If that doesn’t bother you, then don’t let the other names you also love bother you.
[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a gorgeous, intellegent, classy name, just like with your other kiddos’ names. [name_f]Jane[/name_f] and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] share a zippy, classical, musical vibe a la the [name_u]Jazz[/name_u] connection. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] are mellowed and refined and beautiful like the literary connection. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] plays to the beautiful strengths of the names you’ve chosen, and creates an orchestra of harmony between the three names as well as keeping each name as an individual. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] would be a perfect addition to your family.
While I don’t think of the game connection, some might. [name_m]Just[/name_m] like some might see [name_f]Jane[/name_f]'s name and think of “[name_m]Tarzan[/name_m]”, or see [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and think of [name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] VIII. Yet at the same time we have [name_f]Jane[/name_f] [name_u]Austen[/name_u] and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] [name_m]Fitzgerald[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] Wadsworth [name_m]Longfellow[/name_m].
Your little one will be as much an individual as her brother and sister. Associations go away once you get to know someone. [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is such a beautiful name, and so perfect for your family, that it would be a real shame not to use it in fear that people think of a video game with a strong female lead when they think of your daughter’s name at first.
Yes, it might get tiring to always hear “oh, like the video game?” But that is just the same as having to be “[name_f]Lauren[/name_f] S.” of six [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]'s in her class or having to correct the pronunciation of “[name_f]Roisin[/name_f]” all her life or being a [name_u]Fable[/name_u] and explaining why your parents gave you such an unusual name. Names are just tough like that. So you may as well use the one you and your family loves.
So, at the end of my long rant, go for [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]. It’s lovely and you won’t go wrong.
