I really love the name but I’m concerned that it sounds a little “ethnic” and feel like if I ever have
a baby I should just use Zoe instead. I would like to know your opinion on this matter and your personal experience if you have any.
I’ve never met a [name_f]Zoya[/name_f], but I think it is a lovely name. [name_f]Every[/name_f] name sounds “ethnic” somewhere, so I don’t think that should keep you from a name you truly love.
I’m with @sillysheilda - everyname sounds foreign somewhere; [name_f]Zoya[/name_f]'s great! I’ve crushed long and hard on the even-more-foreign Zoja, which I feel is even more of a taboo. I love [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]–best, actually, of all the variants–but I would easily consider [name_f]Zora[/name_f] or [name_f]Zoya[/name_f]/Zoja (or even [name_f]Zoelie[/name_f]/Zoella, honestly), if [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] got a no.
I prefer [name_f]Zara[/name_f] and [name_f]Zea[/name_f]. I also have a soft spot for [name_f]Zoe[/name_f], as it was St. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] Labouré’s birth name <3 And though Zoya is a perfectly wonderful name, it does sound foreign. But don’t let it concern you if you really love it!
[name_f]Zoya[/name_f] is great and I think it is prettier than [name_f]Zoe[/name_f]. I had a student named [name_f]Zoya[/name_f] (who was not foreign) and she was a lovely girl which is probably partly why I like it.
I think it has a lovely sound, but I would have more of a problem with the nail polish brand than it sounding too ethnic. I don’t even wear nail polish and I’ve heard of the brand! If that doesn’t bother you though, then go for it!
I’d never heard [name_f]Zoya[/name_f] before, but I vastly prefer it to [name_f]Zoe[/name_f] - to me, it has a much prettier sound, as well as being significantly less popular. It doesn’t sound foreign at all!
I like [name_f]Zoya[/name_f]. I remember reading that it’s considered rather old-fashioned in [name_f]Russia[/name_f], but it sounds pretty and interesting to me.
Incidentally, the nail polish brand was named after its founder, [name_f]Zoya[/name_f] Reyzis.
