I decided to post the top 100 names given to baby boys during the 1880’s for any berries who want to make a vintage choice or love this era as much as I do
I know it’s pretty easy to find a site online to generate this same list, but I felt it would be nice to have it right here at home on Namberry haha
[name]Feel[/name] free to comment and talk about your favorites from this decade!
My husband, my father, my brother, and both my grandfathers are on this list, as are my husband’s father and grandfather. As far as timeless I guess they’re that.
The only one of the top ten that I’d use myself as a first name for a baby is #8, [name]Henry[/name].
Was surprised two different spellings of [name]Jesse[/name]/[name]Jessie[/name] ranked. I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Jesse[/name].
I’m not especially fond of [name]John[/name]. I do love [name]Jonathan[/name], but [name]Jonathan[/name] (despite being Biblical) didn’t really become popular until many decades later and isn’t really directed related.
I see [name]Allen[/name] is on the list. I prefer the spelling [name]Alan[/name], but [name]Allen[/name] is nice too. I could see one of them coming back in the wake of [name]Aidan[/name]? Maybe?
Here are the ones I’d use - and many of them are in my top list! [name]Walter[/name], [name]Harry[/name], [name]Arthur[/name], [name]Alfred[/name], [name]August[/name], [name]Harold[/name], [name]Henry[/name] are my favorites.
But as FNs, I really love [name]Isaac[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Daniel[/name] ([name]Daniel[/name]!), [name]August[/name], [name]Jack[/name], and [name]Louis[/name]/[name]Lewis[/name].
Loving all the comments here! i love a lot of these and have [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Harvey[/name] on my list currently. i have a real connection and attachment to this time period so naturally my names are all from this era
I am loving old names I have [name]Indiana[/name] [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Charlie[/name] [name]Richard[/name] and [name]Eli[/name] [name]James[/name]. Trying to decide on baby no fours name! chosen a girls just working on a boys
@[name]Pam[/name] no problem! I think i’ll put up the girl’s list as well it would be really interesting to see other countries popular names from way back when
@southern.maple interestingly enough i actually know an [name]Elmer[/name] he’s 16 now and when we first met i would call him [name]Elmo[/name] to break the ice haha
I made a list of all the ones on the girls’ list I could see using myself. The boy’s list is a good bit shorter.
#8: [name]Henry[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this one. #14: [name]Arthur[/name] - Really warming up to [name]Arthur[/name]. #25: [name]Roy[/name] - A bit cowboy, but I find it warm and approachable. #28: [name]Jesse[/name] - [name]Adore[/name] [name]Jesse[/name]. I like Biblical names a lot though and didn’t see that many on this list. #50: [name]Michael[/name] - Couldn’t really use it but I like it a lot. #58: [name]Harvey[/name] - Like [name]Harvey[/name], not sure if I’d really be brave enough to use it but it was my grandfather’s name. #74: [name]Hugh[/name] - I like [name]Hugh[/name]. #75: [name]Isaac[/name] - I didn’t used to find this a favourite, but my husband’s love for it has done something for me, too. #77: [name]Patrick[/name] - I like [name]Patrick[/name] very much, husband nixed it though. #83: [name]August[/name] - [name]August[/name] is wonderful, but the NN [name]Gus[/name] is not a big plus for me.
