Throughout the 1910s, there was plenty of turmoil and drama within the [name_u]Banks[/name_u] family. World War I created lots of tension, with many men in the family having to serve, although they all survived thankfully. Many of the children on the farm grew up and began to choose their own paths in life. [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] and [name_m]Haskell[/name_m] had no more children, focusing on raising the seven they had as they moved into their 50s. They were now established members of their country town, which was beginning to grow as it was outside of the city of [name_m]Cleveland[/name_m], which was beginning to grow rapidly. This influential position allowed the family comfort in their town, but many of the children’s lives did not follow the traditional path expected of them.

In 1912, [name_u]Gabriele[/name_u] decided to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor, leaving in the night and taking a train to [name_f]Chicago[/name_f]. There, she attended medical school and succeeded in being one of the few women doctors of the time. She also met a man there, named [name_m]Booker[/name_m], and together the two married in 1916 and started their work as doctors in the same hospital. In 1918, [name_u]Gabriele[/name_u] became unexpectedly pregnant, as the couple had been deciding to wait for children. However, they kept the baby, and later on in 1918 their daughter [name_f]Lula[/name_f] was born.

[name_u]Temple[/name_u] was the most traditional of the adult children. Feeling betrayed by the departure of his twin sister, who he had a close bond with, [name_u]Temple[/name_u] focused on working hard and expanding the [name_u]Banks[/name_u] family legacy. He and [name_f]Lavinia[/name_f] bought up more land to expand their portion of the family farm, and they also had four more children over this decade to help them work it. Their second child was a stubborn boy named [name_m]Hiram[/name_m], born in 1912. In 1914, they had a set of twins, a common trait in the family, and named these energetic kids [name_f]Ginette[/name_f] and [name_u]Lyle[/name_u]. They planned to stop with four children, as they were cramped in their small house, but in 1919 an unexpected son named [name_m]Lazarus[/name_m] was born, rounding out Temple’s family to five children.

The next oldest, [name_f]Zibiah[/name_f], had been courted by the wealthy [name_u]Mercer[/name_u], but she had decided to claim her independence after meeting a preacher’s son named [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m] from the next county over who she fell madly in love with. Thus, [name_f]Zibiah[/name_f] moved out of the home, as [name_m]Zebedee[/name_m] became a preacher in southern Ohio after their marriage in 1911. As a preacher’s wife, [name_f]Zibiah[/name_f] was integral to the new small town outside of [name_u]Dayton[/name_u] that they moved to. She had three sons this decade; Myrom in 1912, [name_m]Lemuel[/name_m] in 1914, and infant [name_m]Lytton[/name_m] in 1919, all of whom were kind and obedient children.

[name_f]Marilla[/name_f] was the only adult child to remain single; she was studying to become a teacher, and planned to find a husband once she had secured a teaching job in a nearby town. She helped [name_f]Ebba[/name_f] take care of the only teenager in the family, [name_m]Solon[/name_m], when she was not at school.

The twins [name_f]Orly[/name_f] and [name_f]Lovis[/name_f] had always been mischievous, and this was true when it came to their marriages. Both ended up leaving behind the family farm. [name_f]Orly[/name_f] followed a more traditional path; she married a slightly older man named [name_m]Irving[/name_m], who lived in [name_m]Detroit[/name_m] and was visiting relatives in the countryside. [name_f]Orly[/name_f] eagerly followed [name_m]Irving[/name_m] back to [name_m]Detroit[/name_m], where she began working in a factory to help support them so they could save up to have children comfortably.

Meanwhile, [name_f]Lovis[/name_f] fell in love with a woman named [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] who lived in town, but the problem was that she was a black woman, and interracial marriages were looked down upon by most in the town. Thus, [name_f]Lovis[/name_f] and [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] eloped, fleeing the countryside and moving to [name_m]Cleveland[/name_m] where they were able to be together more freely. [name_f]Lovis[/name_f] took up a job in the steel mills, hoping someday to buy his own farm where he and [name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] could live without judgement.

(sorry for these massive essays about everyone lmao! This family just came to life in my head and it makes this game even more fun for me to write about their life paths. Don’t want to see how detailed this will get when the families get even bigger LOL)
