I really like [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] and [name_m]Harold[/name_m]. I’m kind of surprised to see [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] because it always sounded more modern to me!

[name_u]Sterling[/name_u] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] seem to fit in with today’s standards quite well

I also think [name_u]Alton[/name_u], [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m], [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m], and [name_m]Olen[/name_m] could work in modern day too.

Howard ‘[name_m]Howie[/name_m]’ could be pretty cute! I also like [name_m]Homer[/name_m], [name_m]Troy[/name_m], and [name_u]Sterling[/name_u].

Cecil, [name_u]Howard[/name_u] nn [name_m]Howie[/name_m], [name_u]Grady[/name_u], [name_m]Harold[/name_m], [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m], [name_u]Alton[/name_u], [name_m]Olen[/name_m], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], and [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] seem like they could all work for a modern boy!

Mose reminds me of the office :joy:

I know of a baby [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] and it’s so cute on him!

The most usable to me:
[name_u]Howard[/name_u]
[name_m]Cecil[/name_m]
[name_u]Grady[/name_u]
[name_m]Harold[/name_m]
[name_m]Morris[/name_m]
[name_m]Olen[/name_m]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]
[name_m]Newton[/name_m]
[name_m]Sylvester[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Mose[/name_m] but The Office ruined it.

Newton feels very on trend, and [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m] fits in with the nature name crowd!

Quite a lot of these are ready for a come back, I think. There are a lot of appealing sounds here, and they do hit that “familiar but not too common” sweet spot. The 100 year rule is scarily accurate.

Harold, [name_m]Homer[/name_m], [name_m]Hubert[/name_m] and [name_u]Howard[/name_u] sound the least wearable to me - just too old mannish still, or just unfortunate associations.

I feel like [name_u]Howard[/name_u], [name_u]Grady[/name_u], [name_m]Harold[/name_m], [name_m]Troy[/name_m], [name_m]Morris[/name_m], [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] (actually on our list!), and [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] would all still work today.

Alton I only think of [name_u]Alton[/name_u] [name_m]Brown[/name_m] but maybe I just watch too much Food Network

I love [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m] - such a great meaning and sound. I like [name_m]Cecil[/name_m] and [name_u]Hollis[/name_u] too! [name_u]Golden[/name_u] I’m intrigued by

I love all of these! I honestly would consider using 90% of these. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorites are [name_u]Howard[/name_u], [name_m]Cecil[/name_m], [name_m]Harold[/name_m], [name_m]Morris[/name_m], [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m], and [name_u]Alton[/name_u].

Homer, [name_m]Mose[/name_m], and [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] have some… questionable? References in pop culture. But, if those don’t bother you, I think all of these names are usable!

Names that would work well now:
[name_m]Troy[/name_m]
[name_u]Hollis[/name_u]
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]
[name_m]Newton[/name_m]
[name_m]Woodrow[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Woody[/name_m]?)

I think only [name_u]Golden[/name_u] and [name_m]Homer[/name_m] would be out of place today.

Ugh I love [name_u]Grady[/name_u]! I wish husband was on board

@Gabriellenz @Greyblue There is a football player named [name_u]Golden[/name_u] [name_u]Tate[/name_u]! His name really makes me think of tater tots… :joy:

I think [name_m]Morris[/name_m], [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m], and [name_u]Sterling[/name_u] would work well now but besides those I like [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m] (hey I love names with wood), [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m] and [name_u]Howard[/name_u] (know one my age so I guess it works nowadays too!)

Oh, fun!

Here are my thoughts-

Howard-I don’t see why this wouldn’t work. I’m not a huge fan. I guess it just feels a little dated, & I feel like [name_m]Howie[/name_m] is sort of…dopey for lack of a better word. But it’s not horrible offensive. A perfectly nice normal name.

Cecil-I don’t know. I guess it’s usable. I just don’t like it. It sounds kind of evil.

Woodrow-This sounds too much like a last name. And I can see [name_m]Woody[/name_m] being a cute nn, but also way too much teasing potential.

Grady-I kind of see this as feeling more modern. Didn’t realize that it was popular in the 20s. I think it’s cute & sporty.

Harold-Same thing w/Howard. It totally works. [name_m]Just[/name_m] feels a bit clunky & dated, but not too much.

Hubert-Meh, this one is almost too geeky. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I love [name_m]Albert[/name_m].

Homer-I don’t know. That Simpsons reference is pretty strong.

Troy-Meh, it feels more 70s/80s to me. Kind of like a jerky football player guy. I don’t know why.

Morris-That’s kind of cute. I like it for a cat! But I think it’d be fine on a human. Totally doable.

Sylvester-Ha, another cat name! This might be just too geeky.

Lloyd-This I like. It might be the ‘[name_m]Say[/name_m] Anything’ association though.

Alton-It’s fine. I don’t love the sound, but it works okay.

Mose-Seems like it’s missing the ‘s’. [name_u]Or[/name_u] sounds like [name_m]Moose[/name_m].

Olen-I’ve never even heard of this, but it’s pretty nice!

Hollis-That’s getting oddly popular for girls now a days. I feel like it’s too masculine for a girl & too feminine for a boy.

Sterling-That feels totally modern to me. I want to like it, but can’t get into it. It’s interesting though.

Golden-Nah, that one feels kind of weird.

Newton-It’s doable. [name_m]Just[/name_m] sounds a little dorky. But not bad.

I LOVE [name_m]Lloyd[/name_m], [name_m]Sylvester[/name_m], and [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]! The rest are basically meh to me, I guess. Those three are so dashing, though, and I feel like they definitely work today. [name_u]Hollis[/name_u], [name_u]Sterling[/name_u], [name_m]Troy[/name_m], [name_m]Morris[/name_m], and [name_m]Newton[/name_m] could be fine as well.

Some of my favourites are on here.

Howard - I like this name quite a lot! I think it’d do well today. [name_m]Howie[/name_m] is cute, but not the best for everyday use.

Sylvester - I prefer the more Latin [name_m]Silvester[/name_m], although this name is great regardless. If [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is becoming popular, why can’t this gem?

Lloyd - The original Welsh name may be hard to pronounce, so I reckon you’re sticking to the [name_f]English[/name_f] one. I like this name, almost as much as [name_m]Floyd[/name_m], which you should consider as well.

Homer - When said slowly and out of a Simpsons context, this name is filled with history and makes a unique choice on a child today. Sadly, [name_m]Homer[/name_m] [name_m]Simpson[/name_m]’s character has devolved so much from a father willing to do anything for his kids to a selfish, dumb TV dad. T’is a shame.

Recommendations:
[name_m]Gerald[/name_m]
[name_m]Seymour[/name_m]
[name_m]Wilson[/name_m] (gotta complete [name_m]Woodrow[/name_m] somehow, right?)
[name_m]Orville[/name_m]
[name_m]Martin[/name_m]
[name_m]Ulysses[/name_m]
