I’d love your help to come up with a shortlist of names for baby number 3. Our older sons are [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] ([name_u]Theo[/name_u]) and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m] ([name_u]Gus[/name_u]).
We’ve liked [name_f]Florence[/name_f] but I’m worried it is too popular here in Australia. I like [name_u]Penny[/name_u], nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f] but my husband isn’t on board.
I don’t think [name_f]Florence[/name_f] is very popular here in Australia. I think it’s one of those names that people like but aren’t game to use. Most of the little ones I’ve heard of recently are [name_f]Evie[/name_f] ([name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]) - 3 of them, [name_f]Ivy[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Eva[/name_f] names with v is very popular. Then [name_f]Mia[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] as well and [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].
Maybe consider the nn [name_f]Flossy[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Flo[/name_f] as it is not very popular.
Btw
I love [name_f]Florence[/name_f] it is my grandmothers name and so lovely but I have an F surname so it just won’t work for us sadly
Thanks sarajf83, you are probably right about [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. We live in a ‘hipster baby name’ area so it pops up a bit, there’s a [name_f]Florence[/name_f] in my son’s daycare group, one of the mum’s at prenatal yoga called her daughter [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. I suspect it’s not popular everywhere but there seem to be a few around me! I do think we’d use [name_f]Flo[/name_f] as a nickname. Maybe I won’t cross it off the list just yet!
For [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] [name_m]Jack[/name_m], I do like [name_f]Florence[/name_f]!
I do think that my name taste goes well with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], so some off my list and other names to go with the two are:
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Annaliese[/name_f] (or [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f], although I prefer the [name_f]Anna[/name_f]- spelling)
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f]
[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabelle[/name_f] (or [name_f]Isabella[/name_f])
[name_f]Angelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f] is a great name and fits perfectly with the brothers names (FYI - [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is one of my all-time favorites). If you love it, go with it! I’m not a fan of [name_u]Penny[/name_u],
I have no concept of [name_f]Florence[/name_f]'s popularity in Australia - if you feel like you’re hearing it a lot, it may be especially popular in your area.
If you like [name_u]Penny[/name_u] nn [name_f]Nell[/name_f], how do you feel about [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]? It would fit with your sons’ longer first names and shorter nicknames.
I like the previous suggestion of [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] - feels like a great fit with your sons. A few others:
I like the suggestion of using [name_f]Flora[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Florence[/name_f]. Or [name_u]Florian[/name_u]? Although that is primarily a boy name.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] also fits better with your sons’ names. Then you’ll have more nn options like [name_u]Pen[/name_u], [name_u]Penny[/name_u], [name_f]Nell[/name_f], [name_f]Lolo[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]…
The hipster areas are such a tricky place to be. No one believes me when I tell them how popular certain names are. And yes, popular for me is knowing 2 kids that my kid will likely interact with over the years.
