We are excited to be expecting baby number three! We don’t know the gender yet, but I’m having fun thinking of names. Our first two are Henry and Margaret. I love timeless names that aren’t likely to be tied to a specific generation. Because our last name is the name of a month, we both like the idea of names that are familiar and clearly first names, not surnames or word names. I’d love our third child’s name to blend nicely with the first two, but would kind of like it to be a bit quirkier to break up the seriousness of the trio. I have Scandinavian ancestry, and a Nordic vibe would be fun! We both love the name Oscar but since it and our surname are both part of the NATO alphabet, we think it would be setting the child up for a lifetime of jokes. What do you think of the below ideas? Any additional ideas?
Ideas:
Julia
Camila
Ingrid (he’s on the fence)
Josephine (a little too lacy for my taste, I like nickname Jo but not Josie. But, Margaret’s nickname is Margot, so maybe Jo and Margot is too much?)
Alice (my favorite, but he doesn’t like)
Felix (maybe my favorite?, he’s on the fence)
Conrad
James
George
Theodore (afraid it’s not timeless enough for how popular it is right now)

I chose the names that I think will got best with [name_u]Henry[/name_u] & [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]:
[name_f]Camila[/name_f] - I would change the spelling to [name_u]Camille[/name_u]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] - love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], plus it has the Norse feel
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] - not as common as the other boys names
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - although it’s a bit overused now
[name_f]My[/name_f] other suggestions have a bit of a Norse feel:
[name_m]Soren[/name_m] & [name_f]Freya[/name_f]

I love your children’s names together!! And wow, what a beautiful last name too.
My thoughts on your ideas:
Julia - A lovely classic. I think it feels a tiny bit dated at the moment, but it’s overall timeless and it works great with the sibset.
Camila - The Camilla spelling looks more traditional to me, but maybe that’s just me? Either way, I think it’d be a fun addition to the sibset! Somewhat classic but a little off-beat.
Ingrid - I honestly think this is the perfect Scandinavian choice with Henry and Margaret. Maybe a nickname your husband likes would help get him on board?
Josephine - Another fantastic match in my opinion, but I’d avoid it if you dislike Josie.
Alice - Not a personal favourite as I find it a little bland, but I think it works well!
My favourite from your girls’ list is Ingrid, but it’d be Camilla if spelled like this!
Oscar - I’ll be honest, I had no idea what the NATO alphabet was. Never heard of it, and I’m 19. I don’t think a lot of people would know it, and even if they did the jokes seem pretty harmless. I love it with Henry & Margaret and I love how it’s also quite popular in Scandinavia (spelled Oskar of course), so I think it’s worth reconsidering!
Conrad - So handsome, and a little off-beat. A fantastic choice.
James - It’s okay, but I do find it a little boring.
George - Adore this with Henry & Margaret!!
Felix - My favourite! Gorgeous with Henry and Margaret, and common in Scandinavia too!
Theodore - I definitely find it timeless, but it’s also very, very popular at the moment, so I do expect it to feel a bit overdone in the future. Still a good choice though!
My favourites is probably Felix but they’re all so lovely!

I’d drop [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - the N at the beginning of your surname clashes with that at the end of [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], and the R at its end clashes with that at the end of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
[name_f]Julia[/name_f] is a decent choice. [name_f]Camila[/name_f] doesn’t go well with the siblings, if anything, I’d go with [name_f]Camilla[/name_f]. [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is nice, but very Scandinavian in comparison to the very [name_f]English[/name_f] [name_u]Henry[/name_u] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]. [name_f]Alice[/name_f] is my favourite as well (if not Camilla).
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. It goes well with your surname. [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] is my second favourite choice. [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_u]George[/name_u] are both nice as well.

For girls
[name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and
[name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] are really lovely
I’m personally not a big fan of [name_f]Julia[/name_f] but I think it’s the next best option for you
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Camila[/name_f] don’t have quite the same vibe for me as your other children’s names
so my ranking would be
- [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
- [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
- [name_f]Julia[/name_f]
- [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
- [name_f]Camila[/name_f]
For boys
[name_u]Henry[/name_u], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and…
James/George are equally lovely
I still like [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] but not as much as [name_u]James[/name_u] or [name_u]George[/name_u].
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] don’t fit as nicely style or flow wise to me as [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]George[/name_u] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] so my order of choices would be
- [name_u]James[/name_u]
- [name_u]George[/name_u]
- [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
- [name_m]Felix[/name_m]
- [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]

I also had never heard of the NATO alphabet until I looked it up. And I agree that the letters being part of it doesn’t really matter much, even if someone were to notice.
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are:
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]James[/name_u]
All of them are very timeless, clearly first names, and go well with your other two and last name.
Good luck!

I love [name_u]George[/name_u] and [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] so much! Those are just perfection to me. I don’t think [name_f]Margot[/name_f] and [name_u]Jo[/name_u] are too confusing for the girls, especially since they’re different syllable counts. [name_m]Ties[/name_m] their nicknames together in a very sweet way.

I don’t think the NATO alphabet association is anything to worry about. [name_u]Honest[/name_u] it took me a moment t figure out what you meant even after you pointed it out.
For a boy: [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] is my favorite, I also like [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], & [name_u]George[/name_u].
For a girl: [name_f]Alice[/name_f] & [name_f]Julia[/name_f] are my favorites, but I like all of them! Although I’m not sure about the nickname [name_u]Jo[/name_u] - not because of [name_f]Margot[/name_f] but because of how it rhymes with the first syllable of your last name.

For a boy, I love [name_u]George[/name_u], [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]! All of those feel classic and timeless and are perfect with [name_u]Henry[/name_u] & [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
