48 Counties of Names

OK so this took me HOURS. Inspired by @OpheliaFlora 's 50 States of names . See if you can guess the connections! I have to admit with some of them I did have to dig deep/use variations or think about name meanings so it may be a little tricky, but some counties were so bursting with great names that I did double middles. Some of the namesakes are ancient, and some are more modern.

Also, just had to add that during my research the person that came up the most was Ethelred the Unready who I hadn’t thought about in years but has literally the best king name ever lol

These are brilliant! I have got all the references for my county :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: although I’ll admit I hadn’t heard of Oates until I Googled him!

Cornwall’s names are definitely my faves, for both sexes. Absolutely love Cornish names :black_heart:

Just need to say how much I appreciate you doing each part of Yorkshire separately; Yorkshire gets lumped together so much I don’t think a lot of people actually realise it’s made up of four counties.

I admittedly don’'t have much knowledge of anywhere outside of Yorkshire & Cumbria, and a bit of Warwickshire, so I won’t even attempt to find the connections for anywhere else :stuck_out_tongue:
And turns out, I know shockingly little out of those too. The only one’s I’ve got are [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_u]Lake[/name_u], [name_u]Calder[/name_u] & Humber.

My favourites out of them all are [name_u]Jonah[/name_u] [name_u]Blue[/name_u], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] Severn. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_u]Silver[/name_u], [name_f]Demelza[/name_f] [name_u]Loveday[/name_u] (I’m swooning), [name_m]Hadrian[/name_m] [name_u]Lake[/name_u], [name_f]Agatha[/name_f] [name_f]Otter[/name_f], [name_u]Robin[/name_u] [name_m]Algernon[/name_m], [name_u]Augustine[/name_u] [name_m]Montague[/name_m], [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_u]Fox[/name_u], Maxin [name_u]Howard[/name_u], [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_f]Darling[/name_f], [name_f]Lyra[/name_f] [name_f]Oriel[/name_f], [name_m]Ambrose[/name_m] [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_m]Titus[/name_m] [name_u]Oak[/name_u], [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] [name_f]Minerva[/name_f] (que more swoons), [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] [name_u]Beau[/name_u], [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] [name_m]Izaak[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m] [name_u]Jet[/name_u], [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] [name_u]Ember[/name_u].
That was more than I expected XD

So true! I have a lot of time to kill in lockdown so thought I may as well be thorough :joy: I’m the same in that I don’t have tons of knowledge outside of [name_u]East[/name_u] Anglia and [name_u]London[/name_u] so this was very much a journey of discovery for me
