4th baby name help

I think you’re right re length.

[name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is nice- think the Spanish spelling though

[name_m]Lewis[/name_m] is quite common where we are in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] not so much lol but I take your point and I think they’re both strong contenders tbh.

I wouldn’t want lou-ee so would give the [name_f]English[/name_f] spelling … could really mess with things and spell [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Henri[/name_m] though!

Also like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] but think too common and cutsy perhaps next to [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] …

Wouldn’t have to be a [name_f]French[/name_f] name could be something else if we really loved it …

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] but have an [name_m]Elliot[/name_m] so think no …

[name_m]Elliott[/name_m], [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] &

[name_m]Adam[/name_m] - [name_m]Saint[/name_m] and also a clan
[name_m]Gordon[/name_m] - is a saint and also a clan
[name_m]Blaine[/name_m] - spelled [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Blane[/name_m] and also a clan
[name_m]Callum[/name_m] - is St. [name_f]Columba[/name_f] and also a clan
[name_m]Callen[/name_m] - [name_m]Saint[/name_m] and clan name
[name_m]Douglas[/name_m] - a Catholic Martyr and a clan
[name_m]Andrew[/name_m] / [name_m]Anderson[/name_m] - both saints and clan names

[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] &

[name_f]Amélie[/name_f] - is St. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] + [name_f]French[/name_f] name
[name_f]Camille[/name_f] - variation of St. Camillus + [name_f]French[/name_f] name
[name_f]Louise[/name_f] - [name_m]Saint[/name_m] + [name_f]French[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f] - variation of St. Heloïse + [name_f]French[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] - [name_m]Saint[/name_m] + [name_f]French[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] - devout Catholic+ [name_f]French[/name_f]

(I went to school with a girl named [name_f]Heloise[/name_f], her nicknames were Helly or Lou)

I really like [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] but my husband doesn’t … any other names like this? Thought of [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] but boys have veteoed this due to film. [name_m]Even[/name_m] thought of common [name_f]French[/name_f] double-barrelled names like Marie-Christine but husband not keen …

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] suggestions …

[name_f]Amelie[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f] for short is lovely although an A name and the sister of [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] McCann so think I would rule out.

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] but don’t want an A name. [name_m]Callum[/name_m] is lovely- will suggest. Maybe too common here. V nice name

Chloe is “pretty girl” to me more than cutesy but I know my husband wouldn’t go for it for our daughter as felt it was too decorative only (didn’t think she’d be a go-getter with the name ). I still like it! Didn’t suggest Sophie and the others I suggested are more mature sounding, I think. I also like Adelaide and Arabella with your set but just scrolled up to see no repeat letters (I’d be the same). Florence, Bridget, Helena, Tabitha, Constance, Valerie, and Harriet (if you’re OK with not having a future Henry - not just the H also the meaning) could also work.

I like Jemima too with your set - think it ties in the more playful Elliot - but not sure if too girly?

And I really like Leonore!

I think using Henri will invite the French pronunciation “On-ree”? But it’s cute (lol) and distinct!

Like [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] but too common here I think, but v pretty and modern too- [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] is similar I feel- v pretty though. Have a niece [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] … also like [name_f]Florence[/name_f] a lot but another family name, same with [name_f]Brigette[/name_f] and [name_f]Helena[/name_f]. Large family! [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] suggestions. Like [name_f]Arabella[/name_f]- will ask hubbie if he does! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you like [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] bc you have great taste in names.

I didn’t suggest Sophie (lol)! Doesn’t matter of course, but that I don’t love the name. It’s a nice name but doesn’t grab me. Having said that, and I don’t think you’ll get this over the line, I too love Frenchy double barrelled names including with Sophie in there: Anne-Charlotte (swoon!), Anne-Sophie, Marie-Claire (boo to magazine!), Anne-Clotilde, Marie-Laure, Lea-Rose (?),and yes, Marie-Christine (though quite close to Madeleine visually).

But I do think you have a winner in Leonore, it’s stunning! Also, your family is wonderfully named :raised_hands:t2:.

Yes, I know you didn’t suggest [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] but it’s one I like that’s in the sane vein as [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] if that makes sense. [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] too actually. All lovely but perhaps overused.

What about Sophie-Christine? Too much of a mouthful maybe. Can’t use [name_f]Rose[/name_f] as is Madeleine’s middle name. Lea-Christine? Could do Lea-Christine [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]
then … [name_m]Or[/name_m] just [name_f]Lea[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f]? Yes, I think [name_f]Leonore[/name_f] is the best though … can’t help thinking that [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] somehow prettier? Italian version … don’t think my husband likes this but not sure. He doesn’t like the name [name_f]Norah[/name_f], I know that and I absolutely love that name, sigh.

Hmm, [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] is lovely! [name_f]Annabel[/name_f] or [name_f]Annabelle[/name_f] too. Some compound [name_f]French[/name_f] names are lovely… I’m a big fan of Anne-Sophie, Anne-Claire, and especially Anne-Louise! [name_f]Love[/name_f] Anne-Louise. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you more mean, stylistically like [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]? [name_m]Or[/name_m] more like, ending or starting in [name_f]Anna[/name_f]?

Stylistically like [name_f]Susanna[/name_f]:

[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Adela[/name_f] or [name_f]Ada[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Adelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandrina[/name_f]
[name_f]Antoinette[/name_f]
[name_f]Brigid[/name_f]
[name_f]Colette[/name_f]
[name_f]Endellion[/name_f]
[name_f]Emma[/name_f]
[name_f]Eugenia[/name_f] (or Eugenie?)
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] or [name_f]Felicitas[/name_f]
[name_f]Florentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Irene[/name_f]
[name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Justina[/name_f]
[name_f]Katharine[/name_f]
[name_f]Lelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] or [name_f]Marcelina[/name_f]
[name_f]Salome[/name_f]
[name_f]Maxima[/name_f]
[name_f]Merryn[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f]
[name_f]Odilia[/name_f] (also love the [name_f]Odelia[/name_f] spelling which means “I will praise God” in Hebrew)
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_f]Prisca[/name_f]
[name_f]Savina[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphina[/name_f]
[name_f]Teresa[/name_f]
[name_f]Theodosia[/name_f]
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]

Has [name_f]Anna[/name_f] in it:

[name_f]Anastasia[/name_f]
[name_f]Bibiana[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Emiliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Mariana[/name_f]
[name_f]Osanna[/name_f]
[name_f]Romana[/name_f]

I’m not too familiar with most Catholic saint names (outside some very obvious ones like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] etc., and some saint stories I admire like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Odilia[/name_f], etc.), so these are purely from name lists I found, I do think [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] is gorgeous and blends two saint names (Anne and Elizabeth), if you like [name_f]Susanna[/name_f] and [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], you might like her? [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] could work for the same reason. [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] is also lovely and has a beautiful meaning (God has answered), and the [name_f]French[/name_f] form, Éliane, is delicate and sweet. I don’t believe it’s a saint name, though?

Good luck!

For your family my first choice would be Lea Christine and Henry Paul. Lea is chic while Henry is classic and both would complement your other children wonderfully.

I don’t see any issues with the shorter length of Lea. If Leo works why not Lea? Rose is short and Christine is long so overall the lengths aren’t very different. If you had too many options and were trying to narrow down, you might look at preferences like length, but it doesn’t seem helpful when you only have a few names on your list.

You already have a lot of suggestions and I’m trying to think of something you might not have considered, whilst keeping to your criteria. I’m including saint names where the gender is reversed.

Girls:

Denise - It may be out of style but if you picture a bright, young girl or woman it feels tailored and chic. I think so, anyway. A name like this with deep history can always be successfully revived.

Gabrielle - I much prefer the French form over Gabriella. I don’t care for Gabby but there are other nicknames like Elle if you want to avoid it.

Vivienne - Fresh and stylish. One downside is the similar ending sound to Madeleine.

Prudence - Not to everyone’s taste, I know, but I think it’s lovely. Prue, Rue or Penny for nicknames.

Boys:

Laurence - Complements Madeleine particularly. Not an exact clan name, but Laurence can relate to clan MacLaren.

Nicholas - Classic, always in style. Not a clan name but it can relate to clan Nicolson.

Robert - Traditional and lots of nickname options, including my favourites Robin and Bertie. Not an exact clan name, but there is clan Robertson.

Samuel - Classic and I find Sam such a sweet, friendly name. I like how the ‘m’ sound carries across Madeleine too. No clans.

All the best with your search!

I get you, must have sounded pendantic! I agree with Chloe, Lucy, Sophie all having a sort of youthful and almost protected quality!

I saw below (now above) the point that OK to use short Lea when might be OK with Rose. I can see the point, but for me, some names look more airy - Lea is a short and airy while Rose (just as an eg, I know it can’t be used), is more solid (not the heftiest but def more grounded). I think with Madeleine - and subject to overall rule that individual name more important than sibset so take with grain - something more substantial would be good, even if one syllable or only short.

Re Leonore v Leonora - I personally prefer Leonore because I love how it’s slightly clipped and suggestive while Leonora tells you everything, no mystique! I might just need to say Leonora to myself a few more times. Either way, both give you Leni and Lea in addition to Nora. I like Norah but probably too much in the vintage/ NYC writer domain compared to your others so wouldn’t feel too bad about not getting it through. I prefer Leonora if wanting Nora.

Finally, Lea-Christine is so pretty to me! You could call her LC (as in “Elsie”) for short though obv we want the full name as much as possible (and secondarily, Lea). Beautiful!

You could also use [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] (the actual [name_f]French[/name_f] version of [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], along with Amalia), which is not popular at all and is pronounced Ah-me-lee. I think I like that pronunciation and spelling better with [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]!
There is a saint [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_m]Barat[/name_m], so using [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] would be a super sweet connection between sisters!

Those are all v good suggestions. I like the an ending and the of distinction of [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and the [name_f]Lena[/name_f] nn but is a family name- same with [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] actually. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is Elliot’s middle name … sigh!

Thanks for thinking outside the box! Had thought of [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] but don’t like the ending. [name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f] is lovely although had a childhood friend [name_f]Gabby[/name_f], still that wouldn’t put me off. Don’t love [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] and [name_f]Gabby[/name_f] though. Really like [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m] but husband doesn’t. Not too keen on the others although I like the nick names [name_m]Laurie[/name_m] and [name_m]Bobby[/name_m]!

You’re right. Won’t rule out [name_f]Sophie[/name_f]. [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] [name_f]Christine[/name_f] is very pretty and there’s not one [name_f]Sophie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] in our family!
