Hello,

Hello,

[name_m]Brown[/name_m] is old blood. This could be from previous implantation bleeding. The first trimester is very vascular, and bleeding can occur for so many reasons. I have had brown spotting with both of mine in the first trimester. [name_m]Just[/name_m] keep an eye on it. Probably nothing wrong, but even if there was at this point there is nothing you can really do to prevent it.
Stephy is right. [name_m]Brown[/name_m] blood is old blood, so don’t be worried unless you start spotting bright red. If this happens, definitely go see your doctor.
This has happened to me when I was five weeks pregnant. I started spotting brown, which turned into bright red, which went from spotting to bleeding, and I miscarried. HOWEVER, that’s just my experience and, if you’re only spotting brown, and this stops fairly quickly, you should be okay. Many women experience bleeding at the beginning of their pregnancy and go on to have healthy babies. A lot of women experience spotting around the time their next period is due.
I’d avoid sex for the next few days. Having sex can’t cause a miscarriage, but if you’re bleeding a little (even if it’s only old blood), sex can exacerbate the problem.
A lot of people experience spotting and it’s no big deal and goes away. I also experienced brown spotting at 5 weeks. I asked my doctor and she said to call if it was ever heavy or had clots or was bright red or accompanied by cramping. I got clots and started cramping. I went in for an early u/s and we eliminated ectopic pregnancy because we could see it in the uterus but at 5w2d it was still too early to tell if there was a heartbeat. [name_f]My[/name_f] doc said I had a 50/50 chance of miscarrying. We had to wait for two whole weeks, all the while I was still spotting on and off, to go in for another u/s. [name_f]My[/name_f] doc told me to take it easy, not to engage in any activity other than walking and no sex. Worst two weeks ever. But we finally went in and there was the heartbeat! I ended up spotting for about three weeks in the end. Everything has been fine ever since and I’m now 22w3d. She said it must have been the placenta burrowing aggressively into the uterine wall that caused spotting.
[name_m]Long[/name_m] story short- nothing to worry about but for now I would recommend you limit your activity because that might help it to stop. IF it gets heavy or bright red or there are clots or it is accompanied by cramping then call your doctor but still try not to worry because often it’s all okay in the end. I know it can be [name_m]UBER[/name_m] hard “not to worry” in that case but at least try to do nice things for yourself that help you to relax if you do find yourself worrying- just take it easy.
Ditto to having experienced spotting at five and six weeks. It lasted like five days, and here I am almost six months pregnant with a healthy baby. Try not to worry.
I had the same situation as [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] only at 7 weeks. Like Stephy said, try no to stress but if it is something wrong there is nothing that can be done at this point. I know that doesn’t help but at this point it’s a waiting game. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you have a different result than I did.
For many women there is a sort of vestigial menstrual period the first month of pregnancy, at the same time as or very slightly later than your normal period. This is because the developing embryo is just too small to make enough progesterone and B-HCG to inhibit the shedding of the uterine lining.
Thanks ladies…it has subsided for the most part…tiny bit of brown discharge here and there when I wipe. I called my Dr. today and she had me in for bloodwork I will go again on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] to make sure (hopefully) that everything is rising as it should! Fingers crossed!
Try got to worry too much about it. I had some spotting around 5 weeks with my first one, went into the clinic and OMG how terrifying. The MD at the clinic sent me to emergency, I had an ultrasound, another ultrasound, blood tests… The WORDS They throw around too, Spontaneous Abortion? Miscarriage? scary stuff. Everything was fine but there were a couple weeks I was pretty worried - all over nothing.
A bit of blood after sex (or other high activity) is normal, that slight spotting may last through a lot of your pregnancy.
