My babe started sleeping through the night at three months old…on his own… From 7:30 to about 6 am
Now it has been nine nights of wide awake baby! He’s not even sleeping well during the day, it doesn’t help he has a cough and cold as well. My husband and I are walking zombies… I heard it usually lasts three weeks… But will he go right back to normal? I’m afraid of him picking up poor sleep habits, tried to let him cry it out one night and he didn’t let up for 45 min. It’s impossible to co sleep with him because he wants to flip right off the bed.
Please someone tell me this will run its course and my perfect sleeping angel will be back eventually
Wow, three months is pretty young to have started sleeping through.
Anyway, I know I probably say this to a lot of people on here but is he getting enough to eat/growing well and gaining well? Starting to eat proportionately more solid foods (or baby foods) versus just breastmilk or formula? Getting some water in a sippy cup every so often? [name_m]Just[/name_m] asking because it would suck to find out later that he was just hungry or thirsty or something simple like that. Their needs are changing at this stage.
Also, sometimes a cold will screw up their sleep when they’re snotty and obviously can’t breathe well. And the bulb syringe thing only does so much to clear them out. As far as I’ve tried, there’s not too much else you can do besides maybe rocking him to sleep upright in your arms, and then putting him down carefully on his side so his nose will drain and mouth will hang open for easier breathing. If he’s anything like my 9 month old, this will only work for a maximum of a few hours and then he’ll roll over and have the same problem again.
When they’re sick, CIO doesn’t really work. In general, I’m mildly ashamed to say I’m a pretty big fan of CIO. But they’ve got to be healthy and all their basic needs met before you can really do it.
Sorry you’re going through this. [name_f]Every[/name_f] kid is different (although I realize how unhelpful a statement that is!) and sometimes they just get off-kilter for awhile when they have a cold.
My daughter slept 7-6 at around 4 months, and then right around 9-10 months it all went south. She got sick and 4 teeth at the same time. My rule is that when they are sick, all bets are off. [name_f]Do[/name_f] whatever is necessary to get some rest for both of you. I also noticed a sleep change right before some developmental change. Is he learning to crawl, or going through a growth spurt? I found that when my daughter was going through some growth spurt, she’d wake up because she was hungry. So I would try feeding her more during the day.
Unfortunately, this is the nature of the beast. Ride this out, and when he feels better, he most likely will settle into a new pattern. Sending you ALL the coffee!
