My DH thinks every name I like sounds made up. He is used to names that are familiar. (The names that he grew up hearing and are so over done.) [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_u]Chelsea[/name_u], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], etc. I think boys names will be easy, but not girls.
My current name crush is [name_f]Davina[/name_f]. He said it doesn’t sound like a real name. The only two names we both like are [name_f]Bree[/name_f] and [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. I would like a longer form of [name_f]Bree[/name_f], but again, he thinks I made them up.
Can you Berries think of some names that are familiar, that you grew up hearing, but are not too popular?
Thanks!
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] is so pretty!
I feel like you could still pull these off:
[name_f]Madeline[/name_f] / [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
[name_f]Ashlyn[/name_f] / [name_f]Ashlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f] / [name_f]Lauren[/name_f]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] / [name_f]Alexandria[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Vanessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalie[/name_f] / [name_f]Natalia[/name_f] / [name_f]Talia[/name_f]
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f]
[name_f]Sara[/name_f]
[name_f]Amy[/name_f] / [name_f]Aimee[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassandra[/name_f]
[name_f]Caitlin[/name_f]
[name_f]Alicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Larissa[/name_f] / [name_f]Marissa[/name_f]
[name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Cara[/name_f]
[name_f]Kira[/name_f]
[name_f]Arielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicia[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Alana[/name_f] / [name_f]Alannah[/name_f] / [name_f]Alaina[/name_f]
[name_f]Lacey[/name_f]
Or maybe you could use a familiar classic that never really goes out of style, such as [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Grace[/name_f], etc…
I [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_f]Elena[/name_f], and I like [name_f]Davina[/name_f] too. [name_f]Davina[/name_f] feels sassy and fiery to me. You could possibly show your SO websites, such as this, that show meanings behind the names so you can show him that they aren’t made up. I haven’t listed any, sorry, I just think this may help.
Suggestions:
[name_u]Cassidy[/name_u]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_u]Piper[/name_u]
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_f]Summer[/name_f]
[name_u]Brooklyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_u]Morgan[/name_u]
My name is a longer version of [name_f]Bree[/name_f] but I go by [name_f]Bree[/name_f] (although mine is spelled [name_f]Bri[/name_f]). Growing up I hated my full name because no one could pronounce it and it drove me nuts. However, when I got older I started going by [name_f]Bri[/name_f] just to avoid confusion of pronunciation. I have grown to love it and I think it suits me perfectly. I think it’s pretty and kind of spunky and I get so many compliments on it. If it were not my name and if my husbands name didn’t also start with “Br” I would seriously consider naming my own daughter [name_f]Bree[/name_f] lol
[name_f]Brielle[/name_f] or [name_f]Briella[/name_f] nickname [name_f]Brie[/name_f]/[name_f]Bree[/name_f] would be adorable!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bree[/name_f]?
Maybe have your DH take a look at the most popular names list on the SSA website so he can get an idea of what’s “in style” these days. I had a similar issue with my husband, but once he understood that that the 80s and 90s style names on his list were the name equivalent of acid-washed high waisted jeans and other dated fashion fads, he started started getting a bit more adventurous with his name picks.
[name_f]Sabrina[/name_f] is a great suggestion.
I looked up top 90s names, and these are my favorite that don’t seem overdone. It’s kind of subjective though as to whether they’re overdone, or just the right about of familiar.
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f]
[name_u]Sydney[/name_u]
[name_u]Shannon[/name_u]
[name_f]Molly[/name_f]
[name_f]Diana[/name_f]
[name_f]Melanie[/name_f]
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f] just popped into my head! Such a pretty name but it does have a sort of 90s vibe to me. [name_f]Vera[/name_f] or [name_f]Nica[/name_f] would be fun nicknames.
Maybe [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] or [name_f]Camille[/name_f] might appeal as well.

*The bri sound isn’t there, but the letters are together
I’m not sure if you like any, but here are some suggestions:
[name_f]Rihanna[/name_f]
[name_u]Kacey[/name_u]
[name_f]Laura[/name_f]
[name_f]Francine[/name_f]
[name_f]Delfina[/name_f]
[name_u]Skylar[/name_u]
[name_f]Bethany[/name_f]
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]
[name_u]Sydney[/name_u]
[name_f]Zoe[/name_f]
What is it with men who want to cling to the names they heard on the playground when they were growing up? [name_f]Brittany[/name_f] and [name_u]Ashley[/name_u] are today’s mom names. Perhaps if you ask what it would have been like if he went to school with little girls named [name_f]Debbie[/name_f] and [name_f]Linda[/name_f] then he can understand the changing trends better.
[name_f]Davina[/name_f] is lovely but it seems irreconcilable to his taste. I agree with the others–show him this site. A lot of people think ‘unique’ or ‘uncommon’ is synonymous with ‘made-up,’ not realizing how many beautiful names are lying fallow.
Have you considered [name_f]Carina[/name_f]? It has a similar sound but might be more similar to his style.
My husband isn’t like that. He respects it’s a bigger deal to me than him. He cares about the meanings of names a lot.
^ Lol, okay?
