I’m 21 weeks with our second baby, another girl! We were set on big sister’s name since before she was born, and haven’t been able to settle on this girl’s name. I’ve had some names I’ve loved for awhile, but they are very popular names ([name_f]Aurora[/name_f], mainly). But now hubby doesn’t like it and I don’t want her to have a common name that a bunch of other people have anyways. Especially since big sister’s name is so unique. Anyways, here’s our current list of favorites, meant to pair with middle name [name_f]Nada[/name_f] (a family member’s name):
Of your names I like [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] and [name_f]Aster[/name_f] best. For [name_f]Delphina[/name_f], I prefer [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], [name_f]Delphi[/name_f] or [name_f]Delphinia[/name_f].
Other Greek names that would work really well as a sibset to the wonderful [name_f]Calliope[/name_f], without being too matchy:
[name_f]Pallas[/name_f]
[name_f]Evanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] ([name_m]Ah[/name_m]-ree-ahd-nay)
[name_f]Rhoda[/name_f]
[name_f]Doris[/name_f]
[name_f]Evadne[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Demi[/name_f]
[name_f]Lethe[/name_f] ([name_u]Lee[/name_u]-thie)
[name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]
[name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]
[name_f]Non[/name_f]-Greek/myth names you may also like
[name_f]Esperanza[/name_f]
[name_f]Ferelith[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Yamileth[/name_f]
Jaala
[name_f]Suvi[/name_f] (Finnish for summer)
[name_f]Viveca[/name_f]
[name_f]Endellion[/name_f]
[name_m]Emrys[/name_m]
I like [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] best of your choices - very pretty and romantic! But I think [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] might be a fabulous choice…it’s pretty, unusual, but still has that spunk and lilt that [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] has, imo. Plus the nn [name_f]Dessa[/name_f] is great! Good luck!
These are great! Thank you for the suggestions. I feel like I’m swimming in names sometimes ant this really helps keep me going in the right direction. [name_f]Pallas[/name_f] and [name_f]Evanthe[/name_f] are my faves you suggested… With [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f] close behind. I had [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f] on there but took it off! And I wish hubby liked [name_f]Ferelith[/name_f] because I thought it was very pretty too…
I think that the duo [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] & [name_f]Aster[/name_f] is fantastic, and [name_f]Aster[/name_f] [name_f]Nada[/name_f] looks and sounds very nice.
I like [name_f]Aster[/name_f] too, I think I just would have to get used to saying it. It sounds strange to me for some reason. And we’ve been struggling with the middle name because so many names have an -a ending, I worry it will sound too repetitive. Like, I love [name_f]Delphina[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f]… But [name_f]Delphina[/name_f] [name_f]Nada[/name_f] and [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] [name_f]Nada[/name_f]? Maybe I’m being too picky lol
[name_f]Aster[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliora[/name_f] are my favorites on your list. Of others’ suggestions, I like [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] and [name_f]Ariadne[/name_f]. The double-L in [name_f]Endellion[/name_f] and [name_f]Calliope[/name_f] go well together, too.
Ah Calliope is gorgeous so I’m sure you’ll find another equally as stunning name.
Thoughts…
Amaryllis is a lovely Greek name with the perfect meaning ‘to sparkle’ which I find so cute! Amaryllis is an interesting botanical choice with great associations with Greek poetry. Stylistically she feels similar to Calliope the only major difference is that Calliope has that go to nickname of Callie whereas Amaryllis doesn’t have an immediate nickname, maybe Ami. I think that’s only flaw regarding this name.
Amethyst is a pretty gemstone name and of recent gemstone names have been really growing on me. I have been loving the name Emerald for example. I think Amethyst is a lovely spunky choice. But I am not keen on this name with Calliope, I think they sort of clash. However this could work as a middle name with something like Olympia could work.
Ariane this name is really delicate in sound and has the go to nickname of Aria/Ari which defiantly works with Callie. Furthermore Arianne has the angelic meaning of ‘very holy one’ which is just darling. However I am not keen on this spelling I think Arianne spelling wise looks prettier more complete. Also Arianne sounds great with Nada.
Aster this name is another botanical choice with the cool meaning of ‘star’, it’s intriguing but I just think she lacks the femininity needed to be teamed with Calliope which is just so feminine.
Delphina is a magical elegant choice. She is gorgeous and just feels effortless. Delphina is a variant of the equally stunning but not as grand Delphine. Both Delphina and Delphine are great. Delphina has the lovely nickname of Delphi which sounds brilliant with Callie. Calliope & Delphina are great sister names!! Freaking love Delphina Nada.
Damaris is an intriguing New Testament name, however I don’t like this name with Calliope the fact that it’s unisex and Calliope is just so feminine seems off too me. You need to embrace that level of femininity with your next daughter.
Eliora is a gorgeous Hebrew name melodic and littered with vowels making it sound almost lyrical. Eliora sounds beautiful with Calliope they both scream femininity and have interesting sounds with the cute nicknames of Ellie and Callie. Despite the double ‘a’ ending I think Eliora works really well with Nada.
Eris I think this name will make an interesting middle name teamed with something elaborate and elegant like Viviana but I think as a first name teamed with big sister Calliope it’s too short and lacks the elegance that Calliope possess. Eris feels like she belongs to another sibling set.
Hester is just unattractive next to your beautiful Calliope! If I was Hester I would be so jealous of my beautifully named big sister Calliope. I really dislike this name and Calliope’s beauty only highlights Hester’s harsh sound.
Phaedra is a Greek mythological name just like Calliope. She is very feminine like Calliope. She’s freaking gorgeous like Calliope!! Honestly Phaedra has grown on me so much it’s just effortless. I like the fact that she is another strong Greek mythology name, I like that she has a grown up feminine sound and has the great meaning ‘bright’. She feels dramatic like Calliope. It just works. Also I love the nickname Fay. My only concern is it could be limiting for future children as I would feel that you’d need to use another Greek mythology name, also Phaedra kinda rhymes with Nada.
Ophelia absolutely stunning!! A wonderful Shakespearean choice that she should be used more often especially as a alternative to Olivia. Ophelia is Greek like Calliope but isn’t connected to Greek mythology as strongly as Phaedra for example which means that regarding future children it’s less limiting. She has the cute nicknames Fifi, Lia and possibly Pia. Also Ophelia works with Nada.
I love Ophelia Nada, Arianne Nada, Eliora Nada & Delphina Nada my favourite for Calliope sister being Delphina Nada. Delphina Nada has a great sound and comes with that adorable nickname Delphi which would work with Calliope and her go to nickname Callie.
Hopefully this has helped : )
