A Brother for Bennett

So we’re having another boy and, honestly, I find boy names to be SO difficult. It took us a long time to come with our older son’s name, [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], and now I’m totally at a loss at having to come up with another (but I have a million and one girl names).

A few details about us:

  • we tend to like vintage, more old-fashioned names.
  • would prefer something out of the top 25 if possible, maybe even top 50.
  • we are both in the arts and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] had specific significance for both of us: a Pride & Prejudice/literary connection for me, and a vintage baseball connection for my husband.
  • our last name ends in -er so most -er names are, unfortunately, out. (Names like [name_m]Cooper[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] which we like very much as names but don’t go well with our last name).

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

I’m not sure if they’re what you’re looking for, but here are some ideas:
[name_m]Ambrose[/name_m]-This might be too different for you, but I thought it worked really well with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. It has featured as a name in lots of novels.
[name_m]Daniel[/name_m]-This might be too popular, but again it came to mind when I thought of [name_m]Bennett[/name_m].
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]-I just like this with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], and it has the same classic, refined air.
[name_m]Edmund[/name_m]-A classic, literary and royal choice.
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]-One of the original knights of the round table and generally cool name.
[name_m]Quentin[/name_m]-Another literary choice that works well with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m].
[name_u]Valentine[/name_u]-A great Shakespearean choice!
[name_m]Wilfred[/name_m]-[name_u]Poet[/name_u] [name_m]Wilfred[/name_m] [name_u]Owen[/name_u] springs to mind, it’s another great vintage, classic choice.

Good luck finding your name!

For little brother to [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], I second [name_m]Graham[/name_m]. That’s such a cute name.

Thank you everyone for these wonderful suggestions!

@bassily, I feel like we are really on the same page as several of your ideas were already on my list and now I have a few more to add. I love [name_m]Leo[/name_m] a lot too (and agree it sounds awesome with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]), but unfortunately my husband isn’t totally on-board. I might have to work on that.

@boyandgirl Obviously, you have excellent taste.

@lamantchenille and @sarah1800, great and very helpful lists! Thank you so much.

And @wtfluxy, I totally agree with you because [name_m]Graham[/name_m] is one of my favorite names! Two problems with it for me is that our last name starts with K and ends in -er and so I think it’s a little too close to becoming [name_m]Graham[/name_m] Cracker. And I actually named a main character in something I wrote [name_m]Graham[/name_m] (because I knew I would probably never use it for a baby name because of our last name), so it would be too strange to also name my son that. But it really is a great name.

[name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] came to mind. I thought of [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] first, but then read the part about your last name ending in -er, so I thought of [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] as a good match with [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. [name_m]Ramsey[/name_m] is much less common than [name_u]Sawyer[/name_u] anyway, so if that’s what you’re looking for, it certainly shines.

[name_m]How[/name_m] about:
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
[name_m]Huxley[/name_m]
[name_m]Kingston[/name_m]
[name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]
[name_m]Lawson[/name_m]

[name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and . . .

[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

[name_m]Alasdair[/name_m]

[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m]
[name_m]Abraham[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Humphrey[/name_m] / [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Silas[/name_m]
[name_m]Everard[/name_m] / [name_m]Evander[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Amias[/name_m]
[name_m]Caius[/name_m]
[name_m]Harris[/name_m]

[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Jago[/name_m]

[name_m]Olivier[/name_m] might be an option? Pronounced ol-IV-ee-ay. I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] too but cannot see myself using a #1 name (or #10, maybe even #40).
