A Brother for Brennan

We’re going for another Irish name for our new LO and hoping for one that is similar to [name]Brennan[/name] in the sense of not being too popular, but also not being unheard of. Last name is two syllables and starts with L. DH hates alliteration, so no names starting with an L. Middle name will most likely be [name]James[/name]. Here’s our list so far:

Favorites:
[name]Kieran[/name] (my favorite right now, but I worry about it getting mixed up with [name]Karen[/name])
[name]Keegan[/name] (I like and DH loves, but it’s slap-you-in-the-face Irish imo)

Likes:
[name]Callen[/name]
[name]Dolan[/name]
[name]Declan[/name]

FYI, if this one is a girl, she will be [name]Nora[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]. [name]Nora[/name]'s creeping up the popularity list, but DH and I both love it.

[name]Grady[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Ryne[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Teagan[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Callum[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Ewan[/name] [name]James[/name]
[name]Reilly[/name] [name]James[/name]

I love [name]Grady[/name], but we had dear friends with a [name]Cairn[/name] Terrier named [name]Grady[/name]. I also really, really love [name]Teagan[/name], but I haven’t been able to get DH on board.

I like [name]Kieran[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] a lot! I think thy go great with [name]Brennan[/name] too

[name]Riordan[/name]
[name]Rory[/name]
[name]Ronan[/name]
[name]Seamus[/name]
[name]Teague[/name]
[name]Tierney[/name]

I love the ideas you and your hubby have come up with already!

I don’t think [name]Kieran[/name] would be confused for [name]Karen[/name]. I actually like [name]Keegan[/name] as well, and to me, it’s no more Irish than [name]Brennan[/name], which I adore. If you look no further than your favorites, you’ll do well.

Of your likes, [name]Callen[/name] and [name]Declan[/name] are great choices. [name]Callum[/name] is another option to consider if you like [name]Callen[/name]. When I hear [name]Dolan[/name], I think of Archbishop [name]Timothy[/name] [name]Dolan[/name]. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but since that’s the only time I’ve heard the name, that’s who I think of when I hear it. I’m not usually a fan of uncommon names that I immediately associate with a particular public figure. Also, dolor is another word for grief, so that’s what I think of a lot of times when I see a name that begins with “Dol.”

The one downside of your selections is that they all end in “en” or “an,” and so have an ending sound that is similar to the one for [name]Brennan[/name]. Looking at others’ suggestions, [name]Finlay[/name] and [name]Rory[/name] are appealing options that wouldn’t repeat that sound (if that matters to you).

[name]Nora[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] is a great selection if baby #2 ends up being a girl!

[name]Kieran[/name] and [name]Keegan[/name] are both great options.
Here’s a few more (sorry for any repeats):
[name]Keenan[/name]
Cianan
[name]Cian[/name]/[name]Kian[/name]
[name]Cillian[/name]/[name]Killian[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]
[name]Finnian[/name]
[name]Finnegan[/name]
[name]Finlay[/name]
[name]Larkin[/name]
[name]Ewan[/name]
[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Oren[/name]
[name]Nolan[/name]
[name]Egan[/name]
[name]Phelan[/name]
[name]Lonan[/name]
[name]Desmond[/name]
[name]Ronan[/name]
[name]Cordell[/name]
[name]Brogan[/name]
[name]Conall[/name]

Since you already have a [name]Brennan[/name] I think another -an name is too rhyme-y.

I love [name]Keir[/name], not a fan of [name]Kieran[/name]

I don’t think [name]Keegan[/name] is too Irish, I love the name!
What about [name]Keenan[/name] instead?

Other Suggestions:

[name]Liam[/name]
[name]Riley[/name]
[name]Landon[/name]
[name]Gavin[/name]
[name]Noah[/name]
[name]Dylan[/name]
[name]Bryce[/name]
[name]Cameron[/name]
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Griffin[/name]
[name]Logan[/name]
[name]Devin[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]

I think that [name]Kieran[/name] is a great name, I don’t think that it would be mixed up with [name]Karen[/name].
I also like [name]Keegan[/name], and I don’t think that it’s slap-you-in-the-face Irish, it could work.

[name]Callen[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] it!
[name]Dolan[/name] - This is a new one for me, it sounds like this would fit well with older brother [name]Brennan[/name]
[name]Declan[/name] - I like this name a lot, is very popular lately it seems.
