A brother for [name]Duncan[/name]
[name]Hi[/name] Berries
This is the first time I’m posting, and I’m hopeful that you all will be able to assist me the way I’ve seen you help others! My name is Liann, my husband is [name]Chris[/name], and we have a 14-month-old son named [name]Duncan[/name] [name]Henry[/name] O’[name]Keeffe[/name]. Our last name is Snykiss. We are due in [name]March[/name] with baby boy #2, and are having a really hard time putting together a list of names we like and feel like we could realistically use.
This boys second middle will be O’[name]Keeffe[/name], like Duncans, as it’s my maiden name. I really want to use [name]August[/name] as the first middle. It’s a family name on both sides, and would have been a first name contender if it didn’t sound so terrible with our surname. Though if it doesn’t work with the first name we love there are other family names we could use: [name]John[/name], [name]Stephen[/name], [name]Joseph[/name], [name]Christopher[/name], [name]Lucas[/name] and [name]Patrick[/name]. Duncans first middle is a family name so we want to keep that going.
My husband has two names he likes so far because they make him smile:
[name]Louie[/name]
[name]Quincy[/name]
Neither are my favorite. Does [name]Louie[/name] stand on it’s own?
Names we both like:
[name]Archer[/name] - I really like this but am very apprehensive about its impending popularity.
[name]Tucker[/name]
[name]Spencer[/name]
[name]Truman[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name] - We like this but worry about its perception as super religious.
[name]Carver[/name]
[name]Bram[/name]
[name]Jude[/name]
All nice names, but nothing jumps out.
Now here’s where my family thinks I go over the top with this naming stuff…
-
We don’t want a name that begins with a D. These boys will only be 18 months apart and will likely be similar sizes for their whole childhoods, so labeling will be very difficult with only one initial to work with. We also just want something different, two D names seem very matchy to us.
-
We would really prefer a name that has a different ending than [name]Duncan[/name]. Names that end the same or similar way sound very rhym-y to me. Although three syllables ending in -n sounds ok for some reason.
-
We can’t use any names that end with -s because they blend into our last name. I’ve had to let go of several names because of this, unfortunately ([name]Miles[/name], [name]Julius[/name])
And that’s pretty much it. I would love to find a name ahead of time, but my husband has more of the mindset that we’ll go in with a list and pick once we meet him. I would just like to have a few that I’m not so indifferent toward. With [name]Duncan[/name] we had three names and when he was born he wasn’t any of them so we had to go back to our long lists. [name]Duncan[/name] was actually a name my husband had vetoed early on, so who knows where we’ll end up this time.
Sorry this is so long! Any help you can give would be so appreciated! Thoughts on our lists and new suggestions are very welcome. Thank you!
