A brother for Finn- Cole, Jack, or Skip?

We our expecting our second baby, another boy, in two weeks!

Our first son is [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

We like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] because [name_m]Cole[/name_m] is the English equivalent of MacCool or MacCumhail, and we named [name_u]Finn[/name_u] after the Irish legend [name_u]Finn[/name_u] MacCool.
I thought it would be kind of neat for them to be named after the same legend. I also like how [name_u]Finn[/name_u] means fair and [name_m]Cole[/name_m] means dark, so it’s kind of a cool balance.

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] we like and always have. It’s a family name, but we worry that it’s too generic next to [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. Our last name is [name_u]Murphy[/name_u]- is [name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] too average?

[name_m]Skip[/name_m] is another favorite- My husband’s father goes by the nickname “[name_m]Skip[/name_m]” as he is [name_m]Philip[/name_m] the 2nd. What do you think about a nickname for a first name? I like it with [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

We like author or musician middle names. Ideas and opinions welcome! Thanks!

[name_m]Cole[/name_m] I love. Also like the meanings with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] are the same type of name in my mind (I don’t know why) but [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is uber über popular. [name_m]Skip[/name_m] to me is a nickname more than a name.

Thanks! My husband also likes the name [name_m]Keane[/name_m]. Any thoughts on that one?

I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Cole[/name_m] together!
I love the name [name_m]Keane[/name_m] also, but prefer [name_m]Cole[/name_m] with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] because it doesn’t repeat the -n which sounds a bit better when said aloud [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

Thanks so much! We are having the hardest time because we have [name_u]ELEVEN[/name_u] nephews, so almost all of the cool Irish boy names are taken just within the immediate family! [name_u]Cade[/name_u], Lauch, [name_m]Liam[/name_m], and more all snatched up!

[name_m]Keane[/name_m] is my favorite. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is really nice, but really popular as is [name_m]Cole[/name_m]. [name_m]Skip[/name_m] I have a biased weird opinion of because I know someone who goes by [name_m]Skip[/name_m] as a nn. His first and second names are [name_u]Merle[/name_u] Smiley. Which I hate. and he’s actually [name_u]Merle[/name_u] Smiley III.

[name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] have the same spunky vibe so I like these two names paired together. [name_m]Cole[/name_m] sounds so - well - cold. It also seems like the safe and predictable choice. [name_m]Skip[/name_m] is a great name - for a little boy. I don’t think it ages well and seems forever stuck in childhood (even his grandfather had [name_m]Philip[/name_m] for a full name). If you want to honour his grandfather, call him [name_m]Philip[/name_m] and give him the nn [name_m]Pip[/name_m]. [name_m]Keane[/name_m] is ok but shares an “n” ending with [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

[name_m]Keir[/name_m] (instead of [name_m]Keane[/name_m])
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
[name_m]Gregor[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_u]Niall[/name_u]
[name_u]Seth[/name_u]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m]
[name_u]Jude[/name_u]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Noel[/name_u]
[name_u]Blake[/name_u]
[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_u]Rhys[/name_u]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m]
[name_m]Joel[/name_m]
[name_m]Cael[/name_m]
[name_m]Locke[/name_m]
[name_u]Reid[/name_u]
[name_u]Blaise[/name_u]
[name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]
[name_u]Riley[/name_u]/[name_u]Reilly[/name_u]
[name_m]Ivor[/name_m]

Thanks! We have tossed around [name_u]Rhys[/name_u] and [name_m]Keir[/name_m]. I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_u]Dash[/name_u] but I don’t like [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m].

#1 love the name [name_m]Keane[/name_m]… this is my favorite of all the names you suggested.

#2 I really like the name [name_m]Skip[/name_m] as it is very imaginative… but I see this more as a nickname than an actual name. Simply as at the moment it is a little too out there (for me at least). Maybe name him [name_m]Philip[/name_m] the 3rd???

#3 [name_m]Jack[/name_m] I love but I find it really boring compared to the other name you have there. [name_u]Finn[/name_u] is really cool compared to [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] does have a good imagine as a bit of a rascal and it is a lovely name, however I’m cheering for Skips or [name_m]Keane[/name_m].

#4 [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u] have great matching meanings.

Maybe [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] nn [name_m]Skip[/name_m]/Skips???

As for a middle name maybe Hendrix or Dylan (Bob Dylan)

I really like [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Cole[/name_m] together! I wouldn’t go for [name_m]Jack[/name_m] because there are twins on YouTube that are pretty well known called [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

I like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] best. I think [name_m]Skip[/name_m] is best as a nickname. I also like [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Keane[/name_m] is ok. I prefer [name_m]Keir[/name_m].
Other suggestions would [name_m]Doyle[/name_m], [name_u]Yeats[/name_u], [name_m]Luke[/name_m], or [name_m]Tip[/name_m] which I like better than [name_m]Skip[/name_m] although I still see it as nickname.

[name_u]Rhys[/name_u] would be my first choice and [name_m]Keane[/name_m] my second choice. [name_m]Jack[/name_m] also works well with [name_u]Finn[/name_u].

I do not like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] with [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] and [name_m]Skip[/name_m] is too nicknamey.

I really like both [name_m]Cole[/name_m] and [name_m]Jack[/name_m] with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I’m not a fan of [name_m]Keane[/name_m] with [name_u]Finn[/name_u] because they’re both one syllable with the same ending sound.

I really like [name_m]Cole[/name_m] with [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is a little too popular for me. [name_m]Skip[/name_m] is nice but I only see one type of person pulling it off, if that makes any sense? I really like the suggestion of [name_m]Keir[/name_m] and would also suggest the full [name_m]Keiran[/name_m]? Some other suggestoins…
[name_u]Shea[/name_u]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_u]Neil[/name_u]
[name_u]Brennan[/name_u]
[name_m]Cashel[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_u]Duff[/name_u]
[name_m]Ronan[/name_m]
[name_m]Eamon[/name_m]

[name_m]Jack[/name_m] [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] is totally charming [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. [name_m]Cole[/name_m] is nice, I think it’s a fine name but it isn’t as spunky and charming as [name_m]Jack[/name_m]. [name_m]Skip[/name_m] really seems like a nn to me, not really a given name.

This exactly. I adore [name_m]Jack[/name_m] & [name_u]Finn[/name_u] together.

I also have a son named [name_u]Finn[/name_u] his brothers are named [name_u]Owen[/name_u] and [name_u]Rhys[/name_u]. We also wanted Celtic names with a cool vibe. Anyway I like all your choices but gosh [name_m]Jack[/name_m] is so popular it just seems lack luster next to [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I do like the name but its saturation is just what takes away from it, to me anyway. However if you love it, use it! [name_m]Cole[/name_m] is great but seems a bit bland next to [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I think it depends on how you want to sway the sibset. Preppy… [name_m]Cole[/name_m] or [name_m]Jack[/name_m] both work! Irish I would say [name_m]Kean[/name_m], [name_m]Keir[/name_m], [name_m]Cael[/name_m], all would fit and be spunky like [name_u]Finn[/name_u]. I just can’t see [name_m]Skip[/name_m] on am adult unless its a nickname:) good luck!

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] edgesmill. I’m glad I found your post because I also have a son [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and am expecting a third boy in [name_u]January[/name_u]. [name_u]Finn[/name_u]'s little brother is [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m]…not Irish, but suits him perfectly. We also are nephew-heavy, with 11! Some names already snatched up in our family that you may like are [name_u]Owen[/name_u], [name_m]Ethan[/name_m], [name_m]Gavin[/name_m], and we have 2 Jacks along with a [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. We are looking for an Irish name for this baby, and have considered…

[name_u]Kieran[/name_u]
Sheamus ([name_u]Shea[/name_u])…husbands favorite but I can’t really get on board
[name_m]Nolan[/name_m]
[name_m]Declan[/name_m]
[name_m]Teague[/name_m]-little poet
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]-means happy : )
[name_u]Dean[/name_u]
[name_u]Chase[/name_u]
[name_u]Colby[/name_u]
[name_u]Grey[/name_u]
[name_m]Knox[/name_m]
[name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_m]Nate[/name_m]
[name_m]Will[/name_m]
[name_m]Dax[/name_m]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]…not sure if your nephew Lauch is pronounced “lock” but I like [name_u]Finn[/name_u] and [name_m]Lock[/name_m], and [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] [name_u]Murphy[/name_u] is strong.

I also love [name_u]Dash[/name_u] but agree about [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m]. Good luck and congrats!
