We are due with a baby boy in [name_f]October[/name_f], and my husband and I are having difficulty with names.
I love [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], he loves [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
Other names on our list are -
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Samuel[/name_m] (my mother is [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], but our surname starts with an S too, although it has a “Shhh” sound)
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Patrick[/name_m] ([name_f]My[/name_f] grandfathers name, whom I adored. Really only considering as a middle name as I don’t want 2 children with names that start with P)
We have to avoid all M starting names, and all names ending in S. That unfortunately rules out [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Angus[/name_m]
Our surname is also 1 syllable, so we’d like to avoid single syllable first names. Which rules out [name_u]Finn[/name_u],
[name_m]George[/name_m], and [name_m]Jack[/name_m].
[name_f]My[/name_f] husbands favourite combo is [name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m], and mine is [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]. We are open to suggestions and opinions!
I think both of you combos are great!!!
I would suggest the following combos though…
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Quentin[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
Thank you! I love [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] & [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], but close friends of mine have called their sons these names. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband vetoed [name_m]Julian[/name_m], [name_u]Roscoe[/name_u] & [name_m]Quentin[/name_m]. It seems so much harder for us to settle on a boys name than a girls, both of us were expecting to have another girl!
Out of your listed names I love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] but if I was choosing I would go with:
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Vincent[/name_m] So handsome with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
Out of interest what would her name be if it was a girl?
I love [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], but it’s my dog’s name! So out, unfortunately. If we had a girl it was going to be [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] ([name_f]Evie[/name_f]). We call our daughter [name_u]Penny[/name_u] most of the time.
I like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] but if I has to choose…[name_m]Henry[/name_m] [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] be my choice. [name_m]Henry[/name_m] only beats out [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] because I dislike nn [name_u]Ollie[/name_u] ( and I still associate [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] with an orange cat!).
But I think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is the best match with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] would be my overall pick!
I prefer [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] with [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]! [name_m]Both[/name_m] combos are very nice, but [name_u]Penny[/name_u] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] are too rhymey/matchy, imo.
Since your dog’s name is [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], I would probably rule out other short O ending names. Would [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] become [name_u]Theo[/name_u]?
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] gets my vote. Why not [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]?
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] would become [name_u]Theo[/name_u], or potentially [name_m]Ted[/name_m]. However, the other reservation with [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is that where i’m from, it’s a VERY Greek name, and virtually no-one else calls their child [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. We are of English / Irish decent, and our surname is very Irish, so it feels a little discordant to me.
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m] is definitely a possibility, i’m really just trying to bring my husband around on the [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] front, because he too hates the nickname [name_u]Ollie[/name_u].
I agree that [name_u]Penny[/name_u] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] sound too rhymey, and I really dislike that. Our other dog is [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], so I feel it’s definitely getting too much with [name_u]Penny[/name_u], [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u].
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], but all my husband thinks of is that crotchety old man from the Simpsons, and I can’t convince him otherwise. I also like [name_m]Casper[/name_m], but Husband doesn’t.
The real problem is, neither of us can come around to each others names, so we’re at a stale mate.
I really love the idea of [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]; too bad about that! I think [name_m]Patrick[/name_m] has a lot of great nns, too–[name_u]Pax[/name_u], [name_u]Paddy[/name_u], Trick, etc.!
I find I’m more partial to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (so adorable!) together than [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] (although [name_m]Oliver[/name_m]'s not bad; I’ve just never liked it, sorry!), but I really, really love [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], too.
I’m not sure if it’s been suggested, but I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] ([name_m]Charles[/name_m]?) or [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] would be great. [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Simon[/name_m]? [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Isaac[/name_m]? [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_u]Rowan[/name_u]? [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u]? [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_u]August[/name_u]? [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_m]Andreas[/name_m]?
[name_m]Alas[/name_m], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] is my other dogs name, and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is the name of my best friends son. I never thought boys names would be this hard.
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] was my first thought. If you wanted to take a risk, I would suggest something like [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_u]Constantine[/name_u], or [name_m]Evander[/name_m]. As it stands, I think I prefer [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I also liked the suggestion of [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], if you want something with a bit more personality than [name_m]Oliver[/name_m].
Thanks for the suggestions As I mentioned before, [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] is the name of my friends son, so unusable, unfortunately. If I was going for an S name (because my surname also begins with S), i’d be far more inclined to use [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], to honour my mother [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] anyway. We have friends called [name_m]Raphael[/name_m] and [name_m]Evander[/name_m], and [name_u]Constantine[/name_u] is my husbands [name_m]Boss[/name_m]’ name. [name_f]My[/name_f] cousin called her son [name_m]Oscar[/name_m]. This is the problem, there are so many lovely names out there, but seemingly none that are usable.
