A brother for Rosie & Ellie

We are going to start TTC baby #3 this fall and wanted opinions on what boy names would go well with our two girls: [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]” and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”. The middle name will be [name_m]Irwin[/name_m] (a 4th generation name that we’ll be passing on). Our short list right now:

[name_u]August[/name_u]

[name_m]Cedric[/name_m]

[name_m]Felix[/name_m]

[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]

[name_m]Otto[/name_m]

[name_m]Linus[/name_m]

Any favorites? More ideas and suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

I favor [name_u]August[/name_u] from your list, but [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is also fun!

Go for [name_m]Linus[/name_m]! Such a nice strong name
Some other ideas
[name_m]Rufus[/name_m]
[name_m]Thaddeus[/name_m]/[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]- [name_m]Ted[/name_m]
[name_m]Casper[/name_m]
[name_m]Magnus[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]
[name_m]Maximus[/name_m]
[name_m]Cormac[/name_m]
[name_m]Henry[/name_m]
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]
[name_m]Benedict[/name_m]
[name_m]Hector[/name_m]
[name_u]Francis[/name_u]/[name_m]Franklin[/name_m]- [name_m]Frank[/name_m]
[name_m]Winston[/name_m]
[name_m]Conrad[/name_m]

I pick [name_m]Felix[/name_m]!

[name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m] is my favorite! [name_u]August[/name_u] would be my second pick. [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] & [name_u]Gus[/name_u].

[name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names your girls have.

I think most of the names would work just fine with your girls’ names (which are very pretty, by the by). The only one that’s kinda wishy washy is [name_u]August[/name_u]. It works, but not as well as some of the others because it straddles the line of sounding fresh/modern but having a lot of history to it that it can kind of fit in with old-fashioned monikers. That being said, it’s handsome.

Ultimately, I think [name_m]Cedric[/name_m], [name_m]Hugo[/name_m], and [name_m]Otto[/name_m] fit the best with [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] & [name_f]Elowen[/name_f].

[name_m]Cedric[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m]

By the sounds of the combo once you put each name with [name_m]Irwin[/name_m], I think my favorite would be [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m].

I’m a little bit obsessed with [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and I think it sounds so good with [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f]. It’s fun, masculine, not too serious, and not too common. Not a fan of [name_m]Linus[/name_m] and the way it sounds.

[name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] “[name_f]Rosie[/name_f]” and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f] “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]” and ______ [name_m]Irwin[/name_m]

Of your list I like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] the best but I think [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m] flows the best & goes best in the sibset.

I would suggest a three syllable first name, since that’s the pattern in your other kids…how about

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m]
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_m]Orlando[/name_m]
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m]
[name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Hamilton[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m]
[name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m]
[name_m]Caspian[/name_m]
[name_m]Dominic[/name_m]
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Darius[/name_m]

I like [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m], [name_m]Otto[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m], and [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m].

[name_m]Phillip[/name_m]

[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]
[name_m]Solomon[/name_m]
[name_m]Arthur[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m]

Very interesting, I figured I would see names that had similar nicknames like your girls lol. Not many of your favorites have much for nicknames at all. I like that, so short and hardy little man names  Here’s some suggestions…

From your list I like [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] + [name_m]Augie[/name_m] / [name_m]Otto[/name_m] / [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. Very nice matches there.

[name_u]Ashby[/name_u], [name_u]Sidney[/name_u], [name_m]Raymond[/name_m], [name_u]Finlay[/name_u], [name_m]Johnathan[/name_m], [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_u]Seth[/name_u], [name_u]Max[/name_u], [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_u]Percy[/name_u], [name_m]Earl[/name_m], [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Grant[/name_m], [name_m]Edwin[/name_m], [name_m]Eli[/name_m], [name_m]Henry[/name_m], [name_m]Silas[/name_m], [name_m]Simon[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_u]Carter[/name_u], [name_u]Devon[/name_u], [name_m]Zane[/name_m], [name_m]Brody[/name_m], [name_m]Colt[/name_m], [name_m]Harvey[/name_m]

Oh so fun :).

[name_u]Love[/name_u] your style.

For a boy: [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] {and} [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], [name_m]Alistair[/name_m], [name_m]Archibald[/name_m], [name_m]Balthazar[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], [name_m]Peregrine[/name_m] – {quintessential British names}

I like [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Felix[/name_m].

I like-

[name_u]August[/name_u]
[name_m]Cedric[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_m]Hugo[/name_m]
[name_m]Otto[/name_m]

Basically your whole list is great! With [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] I like [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] and [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] best. What about [name_m]Otis[/name_m]?

I love your name style! [name_u]August[/name_u], [name_m]Felix[/name_m] and [name_m]Linus[/name_m] are all lovely with [name_f]Rosie[/name_f] and [name_f]Ellie[/name_f].

I picture [name_f]Rosamund[/name_f] and [name_f]Elowen[/name_f] skipping through a field with wildflowers in their hair. I think their brother, forever tagging behind them, would be [name_m]Felix[/name_m].

If you could find a longer form for [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m], I’d say that they go well. [name_u]August[/name_u] is a bit too predictable these days, [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] is a bit too comedic and [name_m]Linus[/name_m] is lovely but a very different feel [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

[name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Linus[/name_m] are my favorites. [name_m]Linus[/name_m] is very underappreciated, so I’m leaning toward [name_m]Linus[/name_m] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m].

Wow! Thank you everyone for your great feedback! I’m super surprised that [name_m]Felix[/name_m] seems to be the front runner, but it definitely has the most spunk, and I think it would fit in great with our girls.

My current favorite is [name_u]August[/name_u], because I love both nn’s [name_m]Augie[/name_m] & [name_u]Gus[/name_u]. Also, [name_u]August[/name_u] is a family name and has a bit of a nature feel with it being a time of the year. My husband’s favorite is [name_m]Otto[/name_m] (also a family name) and it’s been the name we’ve had the longest, since before our oldest was born. I really love and had considered many of the names you all suggested, like [name_m]Alaric[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Jasper[/name_m], etc. But this is possibly going to be our last baby and only boy, so I want his name to be strong and more familiar (without being super common or trendy) than our more romantic and obscure girl names. Our style was described well by @britkarma, “short and hardy little man names”.

One other consideration is our last name starts with a “K”. So his initials would be _.I.K. I just don’t want it to spell anything negative or weird.
[name_u]August[/name_u] A.I.K., [name_m]Cedric[/name_m] C.I.K., [name_m]Felix[/name_m] F.I.K., [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] H.I.K., [name_m]Linus[/name_m] L.I.K., [name_m]Otto[/name_m] O.I.K.
Considering only the initials, I prefer the vowel beginning names, [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m], because it doesn’t spell anything, but none of the initials are too bad. H.I.K. is probably my least favorite, since we do live in a more rural part of the states and “hick” is a derogatory word.

Thanks so much everyone! More opinions and suggestions are welcome!

Good background. Knowing that, I still vote for [name_m]Felix[/name_m]. It’s strong and familiar yet not super common or trendy like [name_u]August[/name_u]. [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_m]Felix[/name_m] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_m]Irwin[/name_m] K–? If he might be your last and your girls got the longer romantic names, give him two mns. You could call him [name_u]Gus[/name_u] - that is one of my fave nns. Or how about [name_m]Angus[/name_m] instead? If you must choose between [name_m]Otto[/name_m] and [name_u]August[/name_u], I vote for [name_m]Otto[/name_m].

@schickler - I really liked this imagery. Thanks for your input! [name_m]Angus[/name_m] is really cute but our cousin just used it for his son actually (but they don’t use the nn Gus)! We’ve considered [name_m]Gustav[/name_m] to get the nickname [name_u]Gus[/name_u]… Also, I have never actually met an [name_u]August[/name_u]. I know it’s within the U.S. top 300 or so but it doesn’t seem super common in our area at least. Is it very common in [name_f]Canada[/name_f]? Based only on the U.S. ssa ratings Felix is actually more popular but I have never met a Felix either. We have considered two middles so that is an option if we can’t agree on just a first and middle. Thanks again for your ideas!
