Our children are named [name]Jimena[/name] [name]Mar[/name]”a and [name]Ignacio[/name] [name]Manuel[/name] and we are starting to think of names for their little brother or sister. We are a bilingual family, and we prefer classic Hispanic names that have the same pronunciation in Spanish and English (we decided against [name]Luc[/name]”a and Sebasti”n in the past for this reason). Right now for a boy we are considering [name]Marco[/name] or [name]Marcos[/name], ”lvaro, and Joaqu”n. For a girl I like [name]Paloma[/name] but my husband doesn’t. We’d welcome any suggestions you may have!
If you liked [name]Lucia[/name], what about [name]Lucinda[/name]? I also heard the name [name]Luminosa[/name] once, which reminds me of the “[name]Lucy[/name]” names.
I also can’t resist suggesting [name]Elvia[/name], one of my favorite girls’ names!
Hmm, this is tricky because a lot of names have an accent or slight pronunciation shift in the other language ( I know because I’ve been trying to figure out some names with the same criteria myself!). Let’s see if we can get some, or at least come close ( I don’t know how to make accents, etc. on DH’s computer tho ; ) ).

I love [name]Joaquin[/name]. [name]Love[/name]. It. For a girl, how about [name]Alma[/name] or [name]Antonia[/name]?
Yes! [name]Alma[/name] – how could I forget that one?!? I have a good friend named [name]Alma[/name].
I also forgot [name]Ruben[/name], which I love, but the husband shot it down for us, so I’m spreading the [name]Ruben[/name] love. : )
Thanks for these great ideas! It is a bit tricky using this one-pronunciation rule, but I don’t like the idea of constantly correcting people when they use the English pronunciation, or using or allowing both pronunciations. Some bilingual families we know do just that - say [name]Juli[/name]”n at home and [name]Julian[/name] with English speakers, for example - but I never liked that idea.
We had thought about [name]Lucinda[/name] or [name]Luciana[/name] as alternatives for [name]Luc[/name]”a - I like both. I had never heard of [name]Elvia[/name] - it is kind of cute!
I also like:
[name]Adela[/name]
[name]Bel[/name]”n
[name]Pilar[/name]
[name]Alma[/name]
[name]Antonia[/name]
and
[name]Clemente[/name]
[name]Felix[/name] (though this one is so close in both languages that I am sure most people would use the English one, so I don’t know if I want to use a name like this along with my other two children’s names)
[name]Felipe[/name]
[name]Vicente[/name]
and I love Rub”n, but my husband doesn’t! oh well…
I like Joaqu”n, but I am afraid of the nickname Joaco - pronounced like wacko in English. I know our family abroad would use it and I would have to ask them all the time not to call him that!
Thanks again for your suggestions!
What’s with husbands hating on Rub”n (…back to knowing how to type accents on MY computer)?
I seriously love all the names that are your favorites as well as your daughter’s and son’s names. I really don’t think you could go wrong with any of them! : )
However, Joaco is an unfortunate nickname, but honestly I am amazed at the incredibly bizarre nicknames my international family can come up with. Sometimes I think it’s inevitable.
Good luck!

what do you think anout the name [name]Pilar[/name]?? Its easy pronnunced!! I love the name [name]Catalina[/name], and the name Aldana. If you like [name]Luc[/name]”a what aboute [name]Luisa[/name]?? It
s very pretty and it”s one of my fav ones!!
I love too the name Sof”a, [name]Clementina[/name], [name]Serafina[/name], [name]Mariana[/name] and Micaella! And other option i think is awesome is [name]Joaquina[/name]! It soo pretty!!!
For boy i loved [name]Fabio[/name], [name]Camilo[/name], [name]Lucca[/name]. And between [name]Marco[/name] and [name]Marcos[/name] I prefer [name]Marco[/name]! BUt i think Joaqu”n is pretty cooll!
Good luck!!
Thanks again! There are some great possibilities here - [name]Araceli[/name], [name]Silvana[/name], [name]Martina[/name] … [name]Armando[/name], [name]Efrain[/name], [name]Eloy[/name] (but I am not sure how this name would come across to English speakers), [name]Dante[/name]. And I love the name Aldana! You don’t hear it that much but I have met a few little Aldanas and I adore the name!
No one seems to like [name]Alvaro[/name] that much. I love the idea of the nickname Alvi but I’m afraid that the full name isn’t the easiest for non-Spanish speakers to pronounce.
I just remembered one that works well when read in English and Spanish… what about [name]Santiago[/name]?
I love the name [name]Santiago[/name], and I actually would have loved to name our son that, but there is already a [name]Santiago[/name] in the family and we couldn’t repeat it. We considered [name]Santino[/name] as well but I don’t like it nearly as much. [name]Diego[/name] is also out because of a family member. [name]Alas[/name]! Thanks again for the input, though.

[name]Eloi/name
[name]Andres[/name]
[name]Alberto[/name]

[name]Elias[/name]
I know of a family (wher some of these names are taken from) who use Spanish pronunciations on their chidlrens’ names ([name]Carolina[/name], [name]Valeria[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Saul[/name], [name]Ivan[/name], etc.) They are always introduced with the Spanish pronunciation and nobody in town uses the English pronunciations.
My husband shot down another name I love (add it to the list with Rub”n and [name]Felipe[/name] – he’s incredibly picky!), but I figured I’d pass it along here since it seems a lot of names you love are the same ones I love. : )
It’s not on nameberry, but what about Cayetano?
I like your names! [name]Paloma[/name] is pretty. I typed in your kids names and your favorites on nymbler and this is what I got:
Boys:
[name]Rafael[/name]
[name]Gustavo[/name]
[name]Jose[/name]
[name]Lorenzo[/name]
Girls:
[name]Catalina[/name]
[name]Constanza[/name]
[name]Margarita[/name]
[name]Mariana[/name]
[name]Magdalena[/name]
Hmmm… I can’t see us using Cayetano, like Caetano Veloso. I think it is an interesting name but that the name is really tied to the singer and it is a bit too uncommon for us. I love the name [name]Lorenzo[/name], but DH says it makes him think of the movie [name]Lorenzo[/name]'s Oil (I haven’t seen it but I know it is sad). I like [name]Catalina[/name] and [name]Constanza[/name], too.
[name]Araceli[/name] and [name]Silvana[/name] are stunning!! You have had a lot of great suggestions, but I had a couple of favorites that I don’t think have been mentioned:
[name]Elia[/name] (I know a Hispanic woman named this and always thought her name was beautiful)
[name]Matias[/name] (this is just so handsome and shouldn’t be too much of a problem for English speakers)
Good luck!
My host family in Spain had the cutest little kids, [name]Jimena[/name] and Jiermo, though I understand the traditional spelling is [name]Guillermo[/name], which English speakers will often fumble with.
[name]Lorenzo[/name] is a great name that one movie association (I’ve never seen it either) shouldn’t ruin, no children know anything about the movie so his peers won’t ever make the connection! My last boy suggestion is [name]Gael[/name]. It strikes me as very handsome
For a girl I really like the suggestions- [name]Ines[/name], Paoloma, and [name]Esmerelda[/name]. I also like [name]Florencia[/name], which I don’t think has been suggested. Its a little exotic yet sophisticated, but not hard to pronounce
Best of luck!
