[name_m]Hi[/name_m] guys!
I’m writing (at least I’m planning) a high fantasy novel set in a Renaissance-like world. I have a huge list of names that I like but I’m having trouble narrowing them down. [name_m]Feel[/name_m] free to let me know what you think: Are there any you love or absolutely hate? What character do you see when you hear the name? Which ones are worthy of protagonists and which ones might have to sit it out this time? For some reason I always seem to have so many more girls’ names than boys’. Anyway, here they are!
Boys
I love the came [name_u]Luca[/name_u]. I think that would be a very good name for a male protagonist.
[name_m]Cato[/name_m] is also really good and means all-knowing.
I really like the name [name_u]Kai[/name_u] but it it Hawaiian so I don’t think it fits renaissance. You could also try [name_m]Ky[/name_m] or [name_u]Kye[/name_u].
I also really like [name_m]Leo[/name_m] for a male protagonist because it means ‘lion’.
Have you thought of just going classic like [name_m]Peter[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m], [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], or [name_m]Gideon[/name_m]?
Girls
I [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Adelina[/name_f]. I think it would be PERFECT for a female protagonist! Especially because it means ‘nobility’ and has a Renaissance ring to it.
I also really like [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Mara[/name_f].
Have you thought of [name_f]Cecily[/name_f] or [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f]? What about [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] for a protagonist because it means ‘victory’? I also really like [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], which means ‘heavenly’ in Latin. I also really like these names because they sound like Renaissance style names.
I love [name_f]Isadora[/name_f] and [name_f]Melisande[/name_f] for girls, and [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] I think would also be a good Renaissance-type name, though maybe not for a protagonist.
For boys, I absolutey [name_f]ADORE[/name_f] [name_u]Luca[/name_u], and I also like [name_u]Ash[/name_u] and [name_m]Leo[/name_m].
My favorites for girls were: [name_u]Memphis[/name_u], [name_f]Adelina[/name_f], Finna, [name_f]Sidra[/name_f]. I really like the sound of [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] for a girl, too.
Favorites for boys: Rydell, [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_m]Leo[/name_m], and I prefer the name [name_u]Luca[/name_u] on just its own
Thanks artseygirl199, matti12 and red robin! I love [name_f]Cecelia[/name_f] too. I think it could definitely be in the running for a protagonist. [name_f]Araminta[/name_f] is absolutely lovely as well. I really love [name_u]Memphis[/name_u] as well. Thanks for your feedback!
And dantea: I’m very sorry, but I was unaware of the new forms at the time but I will be sure to use them from now on.
Well, out of your list for girls I like Aeria, [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], and Finna. I love [name_f]Adelina[/name_f] too but, personally, I think of it as a victorian name. [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Odelina[/name_f] would be more fitting to the setting. For your list of boys I think [name_m]Lucian[/name_m] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] are fitting for a male protagonist. Some of my suggestions:
