a few questions about Shane

Not expecting, just wondering

[name_u]Shane[/name_u] is a long loved name on my list that I am falling in love with all over again. I can so picture it on a little boy or grown man. I love that it’s easy to say/spell and familiar but not overly popular. To me, it sounds gentle yet sturdy. However…

I’ve come across quite a large amount of negative opinions such as “that’s such a redneck name…that’s so dated…that sounds so trashy/backwoods” etc etc. What gives? Honestly, how do you envision a [name_u]Shane[/name_u]? Is [name_m]Zane[/name_m] a better name to consider?

Question 2: what middle would you pair with [name_u]Shane[/name_u]?

I like to have a little fun with middle names, maybe offbeat but not super weird. I don’t like names like [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m] etc because to me it sounds like “[name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Patrick[/name_m]”. I recently heard of the name [name_m]Quill[/name_m]/[name_m]Quillan[/name_m]. [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_m]Quillan[/name_m]? [name_f]Honor[/name_f] name option would be [name_m]Kevin[/name_m]. [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_m]Kevin[/name_m].

Question 3: what would you name a brother or sister to a [name_u]Shane[/name_u]?

I really like [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] but I’m struggling for other options. Not sure if [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] is too obnoxiously Irish sounding (which isn’t what I’m going for, I just really like the names!) For girls, I like [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_f]Miranda[/name_f], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_f]Norah[/name_f]. I would love some new ideas to consider since my boy naming style is much different from my girl naming style.

Sorry that was so long! Thanks in advance!

[name_u]Shane[/name_u] was always the “cool guy” name when I was growing up. I grew up in a redneck/backwoods area and I can assure you, no one was named [name_u]Shane[/name_u]. Now [name_u]Dustin[/name_u] , [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Ronald[/name_m], and [name_u]Cameron[/name_u] are a different stort. I always picture [name_u]Shane[/name_u] to be in a rock band and I do like the name a lot (wouldn’t use it because the husband dislikes it).

I think [name_u]Shane[/name_u] and [name_u]Rory[/name_u] are a great sibset! I think the girls names that you picked make [name_u]Shane[/name_u] feel a bit dated, I’d go with a more “fresh” sounding girl name

I don’t get the backwoods reference. I am from a rural area as well. I love [name_u]Shane[/name_u]! It’s my DH’s name. He’s about the least backwoods person I’ve ever known. I think it has wonderful Irish roots.

I’m from Australia and just wanted to comment that [name_u]Shane[/name_u] is considered a bit of a ‘bogan’ name and very dated also; maybe those comments are from Aussies?
It sounds [name_u]Shane[/name_u] would work fine in the US if you like it

I’m from Australia and i grew up with a best friend name [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] and an uncle [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_m]Bryant[/name_m]. I dont think its a bogan name, but its the name of quiet person in my opinion. Someone with a heart of gold, but quiet in a good way. Its not one of my choices but i wouldnt associated it with being a bogan name.
As for siblings, [name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_m]Anthony[/name_m] has two brothers
[name_u]Ashley[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]Mark[/name_m] [name_u]Tobin[/name_u].
[name_u]Shane[/name_u] [name_m]Bryant[/name_m] has a brother and a sister
[name_m]Greg[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] and [name_f]Gail[/name_f] [name_u]Joan[/name_u]
If you wanted to use it these days maybe give it a trendy make over or an unusual middle name. I know someone else who also has the name [name_u]Shane[/name_u], but they spell it [name_u]Shayne[/name_u].

Ok, what is “bogan”?
