I hear you on finding it hard to like boys’ names as much as girls’.
I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Idris[/name_m]. I love that it has two meanings, its sound and brevity, and that it’s not too ‘out there’ now that people are familiar with the name because of [name_m]Idris[/name_m] [name_f]Elba[/name_f].
[name_m]Kitto[/name_m], [name_u]Jory[/name_u] and Daveth … now wouldn’t they be three great names for brothers? I’m so intrigued by Cornish names generally, so I do really like these three. In my accent, [name_m]Kitto[/name_m] does tend to sound like Kiddo, though, which is not ideal. I prefer [name_m]Jago[/name_m] to [name_u]Jory[/name_u], overall, but I still really like it. Daveth I definitely prefer to the more classic [name_m]David[/name_m], but I still find it a bit bland, probably because it’s just so familiar sounding.
Now Taika is very interesting. I love Taika Waititi’s work, so that makes it even more appealing to me. It’s probably a bit too out there for me considering I have no Maori heritage, but I’d consider it as a middle. Would love to see it being used more!
I’ve never considered Vox … I do like [name_m]Fox[/name_m], [name_f]Lux[/name_f] and [name_f]Nyx[/name_f] so I see the appeal. I’ve sung in lots of choirs, and Vox is often used in choir names, so I think that’s why I’m not feeling it. I can totally seeing it working as a given name, though.
[name_m]Llyr[/name_m] - love the mythology connection, and it has a lovely gentleness to it, too, which I think offsets the intensity and strength denoted by being the god of the sea. I do hear the work ‘leer’ straight away, though, which I’m not overly fond of. I could see it being used in Wales no problems, but maybe not as a first name outside of Wales.
An interesting bunch of names to ponder!
