My character is adopting a fake identity, but I can’t find her a totally forgettable, average name. The book is futuristic, but not too far into the future that naming styles would be unrecognizable. The last name will be [name]Turner[/name].
Possible firsts:
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name]
Possible middles:
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Grace[/name]
[name]Marie[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name] [name]Rose[/name] [name]Turner[/name] is the best at the moment. I like [name]Cecelia[/name] for the character, but a [name]Cecelia[/name] is not very forgettable. Suggestions? Combos? Opinions?
Interesting question! I think [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Rose[/name] [name]Turner[/name] would work. Maybe also [name]Emma[/name] [name]Grace[/name], [name]Hannah[/name] [name]Marie[/name], [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Rose[/name], or [name]Anna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]?
[name]Ah[/name] dear, this could definitely offend someone, but I’ll try and show why I am suggesting each name:
[name]Jen[/name] (SOOO common, could belong to anyone from the last 3 generations or so)
[name]Paige[/name] (A blank page for your character to start over. Very short)
[name]Christine[/name] (a beautiful name, but again, rather common)
It depends on where she is from. ^^ - In Demark, the name [name]Elizabeth[/name] stands out, whereas [name]Cecilie[/name]/[name]Cecilia[/name] is more common. :3
The first name that popped into my head (before I even saw your ideas) was [name]Sarah[/name], which I see has been suggested a few times already. I like your middle name possibilities.
I think [name]Sarah[/name] [name]Grace[/name] is very forgettable.
Other ideas:
[name]Hannah[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Anne[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Julia[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Ella[/name] [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Love[/name] the suggestion of [name]Paige[/name]…very clever! However, with the last name [name]Turner[/name], it would sound like a “page turner”…as in a suspenseful novel. Does the last name have to be [name]Turner[/name]?
Oh goodness. Go with [name]Emily[/name]. No name is so overused as that. Other ones that make me thankful for my parents’ creativity:
[name]Kristen[/name], [name]Samantha[/name], [name]Christine[/name], [name]Abigail[/name], [name]Mariah[/name], [name]Dana[/name], [name]Anna[/name], [name]Taylor[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Rebecca[/name]
Middles: [name]Anne[/name], [name]Grace[/name], [name]Nicole[/name], [name]Jean[/name], [name]Lynn[/name], [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Paige[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Katherine[/name]
Lasts: [name]Stewart[/name], [name]Harris[/name], [name]Johnson[/name], [name]Morris[/name], [name]Foster[/name], [name]Riley[/name], [name]George[/name], [name]Daniels[/name]
I really really really like [name]Paige[/name] [name]Turner[/name]. Because it’s punny. Because it’s a book.
You want something uncommonish but not unheard of. Anyone would take a stab at it and say ‘[name]Katie[/name]? [name]Sarah[/name]? [name]Ashley[/name]?’ and so on until the common name snaps into place… so you want something people can’t pull off the top of their heads.
Softer sounds also feel more forgettable. And as a [name]Cecilia[/name], I can attest to it’s forgettability. People are always double checking with me, because it’s a longish name, that sounds like a bunch of other names ([name]Cordelia[/name], [name]Sierra[/name], [name]Vera[/name], [name]Leah[/name], [name]Ceil[/name]… anything with the same vowel sounds), that can be shortened to basically ANYTHING (always a plus), and people just don’t think about it. People think of S names or other C names and it really throws them off.
names that sound like other names. [name]Kayla[/name], [name]Kylie[/name], [name]Kenzie[/name], [name]Kyrie[/name], [name]Kyla[/name]… think along those lines.
Since your character is choosing a name, try and think along her lines–what would she actually choose as her alternate identity? Make it meaningful to her.
And then, of course, any middle name will do. [name]Lee[/name]/[name]Leigh[/name] is a good one to keep in mind.
No, the ln does not have to be [name]Turner[/name]. [name]Walker[/name] is the other option. [name]Sarah[/name] and [name]Paige[/name] are the best so far, but [name]Christine[/name] is good too. Thanks for all the ideas!
I like [name]Paige[/name], although I do not think that [name]Paige[/name] [name]Turner[/name] is a very forgettable name! I still like it, though, and would consider using it because it sounds like a name someone would come up with. Any common middle name is fine, [name]Lee[/name] being a good one as well as [name]Lynn[/name]. [name]Rachel[/name] is a very forgettable name, at least in my opinion, as is [name]Chelsey[/name], for whatever reason.
[name]Kaitlyn[/name], [name]Lindsey[/name], [name]Jessica[/name], [name]Jennifer[/name], [name]Amanda[/name], [name]Melissa[/name] were all pretty popular baby names at one point that there are a ton of women with these names now. So in some sense they could be forgettable. [name]Lynn[/name] and [name]Marie[/name] are super common middle names too.
