I thought I came up with the perfect first name/nickname combo for our little girl the other day: [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], an old family name, and we’d call her [name_f]Libby[/name_f].
As soon as I told my husband, though, he was like, “[name_m]How[/name_m] do you get [name_f]Libby[/name_f] from [name_f]Isobel[/name_f]?” This from the guy who has no issues calling our son, [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_u]Cal[/name_u] – which a lot of people question us about. (I always respond with, “[name_m]How[/name_m] does anyone get [name_m]Chuck[/name_m] from [name_m]Charles[/name_m]?”)
So I’m wondering, is [name_f]Libby[/name_f] really a crazy nickname for [name_f]Isobel[/name_f], or does my husband just lack imagination?
And if it doesn’t work, can anyone recommend a way to get to [name_f]Libby[/name_f], besides [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] just doesn’t work for us; it’s used by all the firstborn daughters in my family, and I’m the unfortunate middle child
I don’t really associate [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] with [name_f]Libby[/name_f] but if you love it then go for it who cares what anyone else thinks.
Another way to get [name_f]Libby[/name_f] would be [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] or maybe [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]… you could even just name her [name_f]Libby[/name_f] if you wanted.
I think its fine! [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] is a variant of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] anyway so it makes sense to me. As much sense as [name_u]Cal[/name_u] from [name_m]Charles[/name_m] (which makes as much sense as [name_m]Chuck[/name_m] or [name_m]Chaz[/name_m] or [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]?? All the letters are right there!)
Otherwise, maybe [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] or a variant?
I think it’s fine, especially if you have a [name_m]Charles[/name_m] who goes by [name_u]Cal[/name_u]!
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is another idea, but if you plan to only call her [name_f]Libby[/name_f] I think it could stand alone as well.
I think [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] to [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is fine if you love it. Some people’s nicknames bear no relationship to their real name at all. A name I like that that easily fits the nickname [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is [name_f]Lisbet[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is fine. [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] is a form of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] so I don’t see the issue. I know an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] who goes by [name_f]Bella[/name_f] with the same justification that [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] are connected so why can’t it work the other way around?
If you’re looking for another name I know a [name_f]Libby[/name_f] who’s name is [name_f]Olivia[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f] really works! Especially given the connection between [name_f]Isobel[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], but even without that, you have all the right sounds. I hope your husband comes around to it. I can’t think of another full name for [name_f]Libby[/name_f] at the moment. Good luck!
I’m with your husband on this… sorry. [name_m]How[/name_m] about another variation of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? [name_f]Lilibet[/name_f] or [name_f]Lilibeth[/name_f] would be an easy transition to [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. Or you could look for Li names… [name_f]Lilith[/name_f] might work?
I named my laptop [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. I’ve considered [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Liberty[/name_f], but eventually decided on just [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f] (but mostly just [name_f]Libby[/name_f]). I know it’s just an object, but still…
