A girl named Leo

Yesterday I met a girl named [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. She was [name_m]German[/name_m] so she pronounced in [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-oh.

What do you guys think about this name on a girl? I think it’s really unique and spunky. If we can have [name_f]Cleo[/name_f] then why not [name_m]Leo[/name_m]?

I agree but I wouldn’t because it’s super popular for boys. [name_f]Leonie[/name_f] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] is cute though

[name_m]Leo[/name_m] is a family name, but I would not use it for a girl.

There are plenty of girls names that contain it ([name_f]Leona[/name_f], [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_f]Cleo[/name_f]) that I would use before just plain [name_m]Leo[/name_m].

We met a little girl at the playground once named [name_f]Luciana[/name_f] (loo-chi-on-ah) her nickname was [name_m]Leo[/name_m]

I loved the idea of [name_f]Cleopatra[/name_f] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] in high school, as a guilty pleasure anyways. I can still see the appeal of [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nickname for [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], etc., especially on a more tomboyish girl, but I wouldn’t use it as a full name for a girl since it’s so clearly masculine and also quite popular for boys right now, and I can imagine many girls wanting a more feminine option and/or getting annoyed at people constantly thinking that she’s a boy.

I like it but I’d use it as a nickname for [name_f]Leonora[/name_f]!

I can see it as a nn for something like [name_f]Leonore[/name_f]/[name_f]Leonora[/name_f]/[name_f]Leona[/name_f], etc., but I think Germany has some fairly specific name laws regarding crossing gender lines and using gender-neutral names, so I would be surprised to meet a girl from Germany who was [name_m]JUST[/name_m] [name_m]Leo[/name_m]? I assume it was probably short for [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] or something, but I could be wrong. (Obviously, you met her, not me! haha)

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] and [name_f]Leona[/name_f], but I probably wouldn’t use just [name_m]Leo[/name_m] myself. That could also be because I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] for a boy, though… haha.

For some reason I would want it spelling [name_m]Lio[/name_m] or something to set it apart, but I like the idea of it as a nickname for [name_f]Leona[/name_f].

I would assume nickname.

Nickname only for me - [name_f]Lenore[/name_f], [name_f]Leontine[/name_f] etc.

I wonder if there’s another name to get to the [name_m]Lay[/name_m]-o sound you heard…? [name_f]Layla[/name_f]?

Unpopular opinion but I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_m]Leo[/name_m] for a girl! It’s a great name for either sex.

I was probably a nickname. I would go with [name_f]Leonie[/name_f], [name_f]Leona[/name_f], [name_f]Leonora[/name_f], [name_f]Leonore[/name_f], [name_f]Eleonore[/name_f], [name_f]Alienor[/name_f], Leonild, etc.

I do too! Though for either sex I like better as a nickname/ shortened version.

I love [name_m]Leo[/name_m] for a girl, and I actually have a character [name_f]Leonora[/name_f] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. I’m surprised we haven’t had a girl [name_m]Leo[/name_m] yet.

[name_m]Leo[/name_m] is all boy…

[name_m]Just[/name_m] when I think the boys’ names on girls trend can’t get anymore ridiculous…it does.
