[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all! I don’t post much but we are desperate to find the perfect middle name for our 3rd daughter before my induction in 2 weeks. Our rule is basically we choose a less common first we love the sound of and choose a more traditional or common middle that honors a family member. Our first two girls are:
[name_f]Margot[/name_f] [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] (honoring my maternal grandmother [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Natalie[/name_f])
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] (honoring my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] [name_f]Maureen[/name_f])
Our third girl will be name [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and for the middle we’d like to honor my dad, [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u]. The problem with the middle is that it is my husband and his dad’s name, so variations of [name_u]Michael[/name_u] don’t feel right for that reason. My idea was [name_f]Thea[/name_f], short for the feminine [name_f]Timothea[/name_f] but hubs thinks [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] is too singsong. So what to do? My dad is also very into Irish culture which could be another avenue. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. I’ve never been this close to giving birth without being settled on the perfect name!
I’m drooling over the sibset of [name_f]Margot[/name_f], [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. Really great!!
[name_f]Timothea[/name_f] is the feminine variation of [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], so [name_f]Thea[/name_f] would be a good honor name for [name_m]Timothy[/name_m]. You said your husband doesn’t prefer [name_f]Thea[/name_f], but [name_f]Althea[/name_f] is another option. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Althea[/name_f] sounds nice.
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_u]Tierney[/name_u] and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f] end in the same vowel sound so it sounds a little off. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Timora[/name_f] sounds nice but I really like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Althea[/name_f]!
I actually like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Timothea[/name_f]. I saw that the Irish name [name_m]Tadhg[/name_m] was sometimes translated as [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], though incorrectly, so maybe [name_u]Teagan[/name_u]? (A stretch obviously). Or could you use your dad’s surname? [name_f]Tamsin[/name_f] also vaguely works for me.
I like [name_f]Timothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] like you said (I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the name [name_f]Thea[/name_f] btw and don’t think it’s too sing-songy at all, I think it’s lovely and formal with just enough cuteness in it).
Or maybe [name_f]Timora[/name_f] like the pp said, or maybe Timberly?
Personally I would choose [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Timothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f], but either way [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is such a cute name I’m sure whatever you pick will be great. Good luck!
I think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is hardest out of the three to find a middle for in general! Adding an honour in the mix does make it tougher.
I know you said that hubby found [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f] to singsong, so you might not like my next suggestion, but I think it honours perfectly!
[name_f]Marthy[/name_f]
The end half of [name_m]Timothy[/name_m], it’s a variation of [name_f]Martha[/name_f], which could also work as an honour.
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Marthy[/name_f]
You could also use [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f], which also matches the end half of [name_m]Timothy[/name_m].
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
[name_f]Tabotha[/name_f] is another one which links nicely. Though it isn’t the classic, more popular name choice.
I prefer the flow of [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Timothea[/name_f] to [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f]. Another option is [name_f]Timea[/name_f]. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Timea[/name_f] has a better flow imo than [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Thea[/name_f], but it’s not [name_m]French[/name_m] like your other girls’ middles. I suppose you could also use [name_f]Thyme[/name_f], but I’m not sure about the sound of [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Thyme[/name_f] (although it looks lovely). Beautiful sibset by the way!
I knew a very cool [name_f]Timothea[/name_f] in undergrad who went by [name_m]Timo[/name_m] ([name_m]TIM[/name_m]-oh). [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_m]Timo[/name_m] has a nice ring to it.
My father’s name is [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] and I would use [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as a middle honor name. But I think that with the first name [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Timothea[/name_f] sounds much better.
Hello. Your daughters have such beautiful names! Of all the suggestions I think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_f]Timothea[/name_f] sounds best, and the connection to your Dad is obvious!
I thought I’d also mention, as a previous poster has, that [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] shares the unusual ‘othy’ ending with [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] so is perhaps another option. My daughter is [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] and I receive many compliments on her middle name (more than I do on her first name, actually). [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] is after my grandmother, but my husband’s name is [name_m]Timothy[/name_m] so her middle sort of doubles as a honour name for him too. Or at least he likes that he and is daughter share that ‘othy’ sound in their names. My in-laws like it too and love to call her ‘[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]’.
