I really like the name [name]Maya[/name] (m-eye-ah) but everyone I tell this to asks if it is pronounced m-eye-ah or m-ee-a which I thought was spelled [name]Mia[/name]? Which is it?
Also is there a different way for me to spell it so I don’t keep getting asked?
I know someone named [name]Maya[/name] (MY-uh) and someone named [name]Mia[/name] (ME-uh). I definitely think [name]Maya[/name] is MY-uh, and that’s how I would always pronounce it.
Maybe [name]Maia[/name] would clear things up?
i like that name too but I’m afraid of the pronounciation issues. [name]Even[/name] spelling it the correct way, I know people will still say it wrong. There’s a lot of idiots in my extended family which I know will always ask me [name]Mia[/name] or [name]Maya[/name]!? That really bothers me.
I pronounce [name]Maya[/name] as my-ah. I don’t really knnow why so many people think it’s pronounced like [name]Mia[/name]! Maybe spelling it [name]Mya[/name] or [name]Maia[/name] would make it easier to pronounce.
Definately My-uh. I don’t know how people get Mee-uh from [name]Maya[/name].
I definitely think it’s MY-uh. I’ve hear people mispronounce it [name]MAY[/name]-uh, but never MEE-uh. [name]Maia[/name] probably would get less pronunciation errors but it depends on if you like how that spelling looks. Personally I like [name]Maya[/name] and [name]Maia[/name] better than [name]Mya[/name]… [name]Mya[/name] looks made-up to me.
I actually thought [name]MAY[/name]-uh… but I can see MY-uh.
[name]Mia[/name] is for sure MEE-uh though
[name]Mya[/name] would make it more obvious that it’s MY-uh… maybe
I always thought it was pronounced my-uh, how are people getting an ee sound out of [name]Maya[/name] at all? I could see the confusion if it were [name]Mya[/name], but I think you’re safe the way you’re spelling it.
I’ve heard both MY-uh and [name]MAY[/name]-uh, and I can see both in that, but I don’t know where ME-uh comes from. The only way to get ME-uh is [name]Mia[/name] to me. [name]Mya[/name] is MY-uh and [name]Maya[/name] is a weird hybrid of [name]MAY[/name]-uh and MY-uh to me that I don’t know how to write down how I say it.
maya - my-uh, [name]Mia[/name]-me-uh
My-uh, is [name]Maya[/name]/[name]Mya[/name] to me.
Me-uh, is [name]Mia[/name].
[name]Maia[/name] would still be My-uh to me but would make me wonder more if it’s said my-uh or me-uh.
My-uh
Although, I have a daughter named [name]Mia[/name] and occasionally people call her [name]Maya[/name] when they see it written out. Not sure why.
Best wishes!
