A little sister for Cora Frances

[name]Sloane[/name]
[name]Noelle[/name]
[name]Jade[/name]
[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Adele[/name]

I like [name]Alba[/name] and I have considered it, but I can’t help thinking “[name]Jessica[/name]” when I say it, so it probably wouldn’t work. But I love the sound.

Thank you! I like [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Winifred[/name] for middle names, but I want the first name to be something a little more unusual. When I chose [name]Cora[/name] (almost 5 years ago) it was almost unheard of, in my area at least, and everyone looked at me like I was nuts. So I kinda want that same reaction with my 2nd daughter’s name.

I love [name]Jane[/name] for a middle, [name]Tess[/name] not so much because I knew a horrible girl in school named [name]Tess[/name]. From your list, I like…

[name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Ellen[/name]
[name]Lydia[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Thais[/name], this is really cool… how exactly is it pronounced? Definitely closer to what I’m looking for though. Something simple but unusual.

I also wanted to add [name]Tamsin[/name] to my list- love this name!

I don’t think [name]Blythe[/name] is hard to pronounce but I do see how some might be confused. Sorry if this comes off as snooty but that’s what is kind of great about having a semi-obscure name- you know that people who “get it” are cultured and intelligent!

Haha, good point.

Ooh how about [name]Lyda[/name]? It was the name of my great grandmothers sister, I love it. Maybe [name]Lyda[/name] [name]Cleo[/name] or [name]Lyda[/name] [name]Dixie[/name]? You’ve got lots of great suggestions here. [name]Adore[/name] [name]Cora[/name] [name]Frances[/name] btw!!

[name]Lyda[/name] is very cool!

Well I’ve looked through all the suggestions and compiled a tentative list. Let me know what you think, and more suggestions welcomed!

[name]Maeve[/name] - I really like this one but everyone says it “may-vee” when they read it, that worries me.
[name]Lydia[/name] - #96 so it’s in the Top 100… that kinda bugs me
[name]Rose[/name], or [name]Rosie[/name]? - I like [name]Rosie[/name] more but is it okay by itself?
[name]Nicola[/name] - Worried about Americans pronouncing it funny. I was born in the UK where they pronounce it [name]Nick[/name]-O-la, Americans might pronounce it Ni-COLA. Or like [name]Nicole[/name]-[name]AH[/name].
[name]Blythe[/name] - pronunciation issues here too
[name]Callisto[/name] - Found this one a while ago, I think the Greek connection with [name]Cora[/name] is cool, but it is kinda long…no obvious nicknames
[name]Lola[/name] - just always loved this one, I think it fits with [name]Cora[/name].
[name]Nova[/name] - love this one too, but worried people will automatically think of the car.
[name]Ophelia[/name] - kinda long, someone once told me they hear “oh-feel-ya” when they see it, that turns me off.
[name]Romilly[/name] - like this one a lot, but might look too modern compared to [name]Cora[/name].

Of your list, I like [name]Maeve[/name], [name]Blythe[/name] and [name]Lola[/name]. I’d like [name]Callista[/name] but not [name]Callisto[/name], but if you did go with that you could call her [name]Calla[/name] (although, this might be too close to [name]Cora[/name]?) I’ve never once heard anyone pronounce [name]Maeve[/name] “may-vee”.

I live in the Southern US… people have trouble with names here. My name is [name]Eva[/name] and I’ve had some people pronounce my name wrong, or stumble when they try to say it. Seriously.

I just read this entire thread, as what you are looking for and what I am seem to overlap quite a bit!
I also am wanting something unusual, but recognisable, or pronounceable. Plus [name]Romilly[/name] is the top of my list

[name]Maeve[/name] - I love this name. Its a little popular for what I’m looking for now (in the UK) but it has such a lovely meaning, lilting sound, just has it all really! [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Maeve[/name] are gorgeous together. Vintage, not matchy; both with a little touch of Celtic charm? I think pronunciation wouldn’t be too much of an issue. [name]Maeve[/name] is a name a lot of people have heard of, anyway.
[name]Lydia[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this less. Not a fan of the look of the ‘y’ in the middle, and I’d probably put it in a category with names like [name]Charlotte[/name]. Not as exciting as some of your others.
[name]Rose[/name], or [name]Rosie[/name]? - I like [name]Rose[/name]- oft heard in the middle spot, rarely in the first. But maybe has less of a kick, or rather an ‘oh thats interesting’ factor than [name]Cora[/name]
[name]Nicola[/name] - Really don’t like this one. Very different in style to [name]Cora[/name], and your other picks. I know two [name]Nicholas[/name], one with a sister [name]Laura[/name] and one with a sister [name]Rhianne[/name]. They are more the same style in my book, if that illustrates my point?
[name]Blythe[/name] - Beautiful. Has a nice look of symmetry (maybe as the Y is in the middle? who knows) and such a light, fresh feel. Can imagine some people needing help pronouncing the first time, but I don’t think its hard to say when you know how! [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Theodora[/name] would be sweet. Or along more unexpected lines- [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Scarlet[/name] or [name]Blythe[/name] [name]Ophelia[/name]!
[name]Callisto[/name] - I like [name]Callisto[/name]; the grandest of the list here! [name]Do[/name] you like [name]Leta[/name]? [name]Cleo[/name]? [name]Ione[/name]? Other Greek choices, but shorter more snappy ones perhaps!
[name]Lola[/name] - Very pet namey, to me. Not as timeless as [name]Cora[/name] perhaps, but sweet nevertheless
[name]Nova[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this. Stylistically different to [name]Cora[/name], but they sound ‘right’ together, perhaps as they ar both 4 letters, whilst both being a surprise and a compliment to one another
[name]Ophelia[/name] - Very dramatic…perhaps casts the subtler [name]Cora[/name] a little into the shade? Pretty but yep. Can hear the ‘I feel ya’ thing too
[name]Romilly[/name] - [name]Love[/name] this. I’m considering it too- and my kids also have ‘classic/vintage’ names. I think it works. Sounds romantic and evocative to me; not like a ‘new name.’

[name]Just[/name] out of interest, I wonder if you like some of the names on my list for yourself. Maybe:
[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Nell[/name]/[name]Nelle[/name]
[name]Bettina[/name]
[name]Una[/name]
[name]Opal[/name]
[name]Saskia[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name]- My husband vitoed this, but I love it. [name]Delphi[/name] as a nickname is sweet too. Or Finnie
[name]Imogen[/name]- Very popular here, but maybe not where you are?

Good luck!

[name]Elise[/name]
[name]Roslyn[/name]
[name]Louella[/name]
[name]Claudie[/name]/[name]Claudia[/name]
[name]Cecilia[/name]
[name]Cameo[/name]

I keep thinking of [name]Alice[/name]. [name]Do[/name] you mind the double A’s? I think [name]Alice[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] sounds nice.

[name]Rose[/name] seems the most natural fit to me, and I quite like [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Rose[/name] together. I take it [name]Rosa[/name] has been considered and rejected? If not, I think [name]Cora[/name] and [name]Rosa[/name] are absolutely delightful together!

I like a lot of your names, especially [name]Imogen[/name]. I will probably add it to the list. I dunno… it was so easy the first time around to pick a name, everything just felt perfect. This time, it feels like every name isn’t right. Am I going to get that “AHA!” moment when I find the right name or is it just harder the second time? I don’t want to choose something and then later feel like I made the wrong decision.

I love [name]Alice[/name], but my partner doesn’t like it as a first name. He says it’s too plain, and he hates the possible nickname [name]Ally[/name].

I have considered [name]Rosa[/name], but it sounds a little too matchy with [name]Cora[/name] to me… both 4 letters and end in -a. I like [name]Rose[/name] nn [name]Rosie[/name] a lot, but it still doesn’t feel quite right. :frowning:

[name]Love[/name] [name]Cora[/name] [name]Frances[/name]. Her sister could be [name]Vera[/name], [name]Lydia[/name] or [name]Gwendolyn[/name] could be her sister?
