🪹 a look at our current list

hello, again!

i am just adoring our lists and chatting these over with you guys, so i thought i’d share our boy list; it also gives my husband a bit of a break from the name discussion, which he loves, but just not quite as much as i do

so without further ado…

for a baby brother :camping:

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Oakley[/name_m], [name_m]Oaks[/name_m], and Oakah — a tree name to match our sweet [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], with a bit of cowboy twang that my husband adores. [name_m]Oakley[/name_m], [name_m]Oaks[/name_m] and Oakah also feel reminiscent of ā€œOaks of Righteousnessā€ found in [name_m]Isaiah[/name_m]. we almost gave our daughter the name [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] [name_m]Oak[/name_m], so this has been a longtime favorite. [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m], [name_m]Oaks[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], and Oakah [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] are combinations we’ve considered for a baby boy.

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] — a family name with so much history, and the touching meaning ā€œGift of Godā€. i know that he is extremely popular right now, but i love the timelessness and gentle strength he evokes. we’d absolutely call him [name_m]Theo[/name_m], and are considering [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Amias[/name_m], but i think he’d make a great middle name for us, too!

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] — another tree name that my husband has finally come around to as a brother for [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f]. i think he perfectly honors our babies in heaven, [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_m]Rivers[/name_m], and [name_f]Wren[/name_f], with those R and W sounds and nature connection. [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_m]August[/name_m] would be two ideas we’d consider.

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] — this name reads very ā€œi come from a Catholic familyā€ to me, and i honestly love it. my husband and i met on St. Augustine’s feast day and actually found out we were pregnant with our daughter on his feast as well, just 6 years after our meeting. sort of stuck on combinations other than [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Forest[/name_m], and i will note that we pronounce this ā€œAu-GUS-tinā€.

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f], and [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] — i grouped these sweet boys together, as i absolutely love a sweet and spiritual S name. i think many folks on this site would associate [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] most with us, but i’d love to hear what you think best fits with our babies’ names. [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m] and [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] would probably be our most likely choices for middles, but i love the combinations [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]River[/name_m] and [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]River[/name_m] as well.

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Jude[/name_m] — from about 15 on, i’ve had [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] tucked away as my son’s name. it still feels so right for us, and it was one of our top choices, following [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Hayes[/name_m], if our daughter had been a boy. i love the hymn ā€œThe [name_m]Lion[/name_m] and the Lambā€ and of course that [name_m]Lion[/name_m] of [name_m]Judah[/name_m] connection. my husband is very connected to [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m], so i’ve roped him in here too. they are both so spiritual and strong, but have different vibes in my mind— i probably prefer [name_m]Jude[/name_m] as a middle name, as one can probably figure from the other combinations i’ve shared!

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] — it was so hard to choose between [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] and [name_m]Hollis[/name_m] for this list, but in the end, [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] has much more familial significance to us, on both sides. our [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] would most definitely be [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m] for [name_m]Psalm[/name_m] 42:1, ā€œAs the deer pants for flowing water, so i long for you oh Lordā€.

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] — as i mentioned previously, i’ve adored [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] since the beginning of my Nameberry days. i love the ā€œuntamedā€ meaning, and ideally i’d pair it with [name_m]Jude[/name_m] or [name_m]Judah[/name_m], for the meaning ā€œuntamed praiseā€. I just get chills when i think of that combination! i’m also a very big fan of [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]. throughout my life, i’ve lived in three different places that she has, and when i go home to my grandparents’ farm in SD i follow the highway named for her. she, much like the midwestern prairie just has a very special place in my heart and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] always will too.

:sheaf_of_rice: [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] — [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] is a new love for me, but certainly not for my husband. he has loved this name since he was quite young, and championed it, along with [name_m]Harlan[/name_m], for our daughter before we found out she was a little girl. i recently found out it is the name of my three times great grandfather. he was [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], and i would absolutely use that combination as well, but lately i’ve also been loving [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Oak[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m]. if my husband had his way, he’d be [name_m]Trail[/name_m] [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] or [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Boone[/name_m].

as with my baby sister post, i’d love to hear your thoughts, and friends, thank you endlessly for your kindness and help. talking about the future names we’d love to bestow on little ones is really helping us hold out hope right now, and feels like a way we can love them from afar. :white_heart:

[name_m]Oaks[/name_m] / [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] / Oakah → I love [name_m]Oaks[/name_m] – rugged and gentle at the same time; familiar but unexpected, earthy and lovely. [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] is gentle, warm and handsome; Oakah is really cool - intriguing and lovely

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] → solid, handsome, and strong (albeit not as - I guess - magical as your others?) [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Amias[/name_m] ā€˜Theo’ is lovely – and I like it as a middle

[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] → I love [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] and all it means for you – but [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] and [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] are a bit rhymey for me. [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] or [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] would sound cool too

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] → elegant, handsome and meaningful to you – how cool! [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Forest[/name_m] and [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] are nice! I like it with [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] too – or maybe [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] Oakah, [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] and [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Ellis[/name_m]

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] / [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] / [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] → I do love [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] for you; earthy, outdoorsy, gentle and tough all at once. I also love [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] for its blend of soft but sharp sounds – and its mellow meaning; and I’m actually really digging [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] for you – elegant, soulful and quietly powerful – also, [name_f]Wynne[/name_f] and [name_m]Solly[/name_m]? [name_f]Wynne[/name_f] and Sol?! [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] [name_m]River[/name_m] and [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] are lovely

[name_m]Judah[/name_m] / [name_m]Jude[/name_m] → I love [name_m]Jude[/name_m] a lot but I agree, [name_m]Judah[/name_m] feels more you as a first name.

[name_m]Herschel[/name_m] → clunky and cool and unexpected! [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] or [name_m]Silas[/name_m] [name_m]Hershel[/name_m] came to mind – or even [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m].

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] → breezy and playful, confident and bookish at the same time. [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] (untamed deer?) came to mind – but [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] is also lovely

[name_m]Earnest[/name_m] → I like how [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] brings together the slightly ā€˜oldy-worldy’ // victorian vibe with the contemporary appeal of virtue names. It seems meaningful to you, and I like [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Oak[/name_m], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] and [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Boone[/name_m]. [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] came to mind too

My favourite without a doubt is [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], he just feels so you, followed closely by [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] and [name_m]Herschel[/name_m].

Of course Oakes/Oakley/Oakah are all very you as well, especially with the tree connection. I’ve seen you talk about Judah/Jude so much, that they feel inseparable from you.

I love [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] in general, but I love the idea of [name_m]Wynn[/name_m] and [name_m]Wilde[/name_m] as nicknames, and while maybe less so than [name_m]Rowan[/name_m], he also has the R and W to honour your [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_m]Rivers[/name_m], and [name_f]Wren[/name_f].

[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] is next, I’m so fond of him because he does work so well with [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], and honour your other littles so perfectly.

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] is so charming, and as someone who loves nicknaming names with shorter full names, I love [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] nn [name_m]August[/name_m].

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] do feel a bit normal compared to your others, but of course, [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] has such a lovely meaning, and [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] has such a beautiful family connection.

They’re all so lovely. Good luck [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]!

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] as a first name, and I like [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] for a second name

I love playing around with your names, [name_f]Hannah[/name_f]! They’re all so lovely!

As a brother for [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], I’ve listed below the ones I especially love:

Oakah, [name_m]Oaks[/name_m], and [name_m]Oakley[/name_m]: I see these three as the absolute perfect match for [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f]. I love the subtle nature connection (the meanings of ā€œelmā€ and ā€œoakā€ is too perfect for siblings). They all seem perfectly spiritual and peaceful for a babe of yours. I’ve always been a fan of [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] for you- he’s so soft, lilting, and tranquil and to me fits the whimsy of [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] perfectly. However, I’m really obsessed with Oakah as well. He feels more rugged, adventurous, and rustic, which to me is exactly the vibe of your other boys. I would say he would be my favourite!! I love [name_m]Oaks[/name_m] too, but I think he would be a sweet nickname for either [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] or Oakah. To sum it up, I think [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] matches better with [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], but Oakah matches better with your other boys names. I’ve fallen in love with both of them for you, but especially Oakah.
[name_m]Oakley[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] and Oakah [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] are beautiful!

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]: This is the @/emeraldsea name to me. [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] are absolutely precious together, and I know how much meaning this name has for you. Honestly, I could not think of a more fitting name to add to your little brood! I love his meaning connecting to protection and guidance, so special for a little brother and a lovely sentiment. I love your idea of [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m], and I think your [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] is also stunning.

[name_f]Shiloh[/name_f]: I’m really, really obsessed with [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] as a set. Again, he is so peaceful, lovely, and has an ethereal yet cozy feeling that is so wonderful with the soft sweetness of [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f]. ā€œPeaceā€ is a perfect, spiritual meaning to bestow on a baby boy and I think the sound of [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] is just delightful.

Those would be my top favourites! Also love the three below, but Oakah/Oakley, [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], and [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] are just perfection.

[name_m]Herschel[/name_m]: [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] is such a cuddly, autumnal, rustic name to me. He’s the epitome of farmhouse coziness, and I love that vibe for you. [name_m]The[/name_m] meaning of ā€œdeerā€ feels woodsy, and I love the family connection and the tie to your lovely verse. He does feel a little more vintage then [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], and I think I love him a little more as a middle. For example, [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] or [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Herschel[/name_m]. Nevertheless, [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] and [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] as a set are totally precious!

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m]: I adore him for an adventurous, loving boy, and I could so easily see you with a little [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]! He has such a quiet strength to him. [name_m]The[/name_m] connection to [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is so fun as well- I loved her books as a kid and I think that tie is the sweetest! I love that you have a soft spot for her as well and I think [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is a perfect subtle connection to that.

[name_m]Earnest[/name_m]: Honestly, I think [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] is such a perfect little gentleman- he’s just so. Darn. sweet! [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] and [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] is maybe a little matchy, but how can I resist such an endearing and precious set! [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] is vintage and sweetly sturdy, but is also a virtue name, which seems up your alley. [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Oak[/name_m] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] are darling, as well as your husband’s choices.

[name_m]You[/name_m] really can’t go wrong with such a beautiful list, but the above are my absolute top favourites

[name_m]Oakley[/name_m], [name_m]Oaks[/name_m], and Oakah ~ my favourite for you is [name_m]Oakley[/name_m], I just think it has a friendlier sound than the others somehow and feels ā€˜namier’ (although can see that Oakah would appeal if you’re a [name_m]Judah[/name_m] fan). [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] nn [name_m]Oaks[/name_m] goes so well with E!

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] ~ I like him in the middle for you

[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] ~ I adore him and see what you mean about the similar letters across all your names, but he sounds SO cohesive/similar with E, how would you ever name another?

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] ~ love the meaningful date for you, but he just feels a bit much compared to most of your gentle, nature-y names. I think [name_m]August[/name_m] would be a nice nod to the symbolism but keeping the vibe of your other choices.

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f], [name_m]Solomon[/name_m], and [name_m]Silas[/name_m] ~ I do think [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] would be my pick for you (Wynnie and Shep?! Too sweet). Second I’d actually go [name_m]Silas[/name_m], with his cosy woodland vibes. I’m less a fan of [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] than most berries I think, he does have a lovely soft gentle sound though. [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] feels a bit serious for your set.

[name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Jude[/name_m] (and [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]) ~ prefer [name_m]Jude[/name_m], he’s such a great middle and pairs very well with E’s middle. [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] sounds a bit choppy in my accent without the rounded -r sound (ā€˜jud-uh wild-uh’). I do, however, love [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] for you - that connection to [name_f]Laura[/name_f] Ingalls [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is, well, wild!

[name_m]Herschel[/name_m] ~ don’t dislike him at all but he feels a bit more clunky-old-man-vintage than the rest of your list.

[name_m]Earnest[/name_m] ~ …is also old man vintage, but the wordiness of him feels more you! [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] is perfect (ā€˜sincere praise’!)

My first thoughts were

[name_m]Oakley[/name_m] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] oder
[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]

[name_m]Oaks[/name_m], [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] & Oakah → my favourite of these is [name_m]Oaks[/name_m], he just seems so sweet solid next to [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f]. [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] does flow as well with E due to the L sounds and Oakah is nice but not as nice as [name_m]Oaks[/name_m]! [name_m]Oaks[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] is lovely :green_apple: :olive:

[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] → love [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], and I don’t think his popularity is a problem as he is so timeless. My only hang up is that [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] don’t really match stylistically but that might just be me  love [name_m]Theo[/name_m] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] is gorgeous.

[name_m]Rowan[/name_m] → again I think [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] sounds to similar to [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f]! Maybe [name_m]Ronan[/name_m]? I love [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] for a middle!

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m] → I do like him but again I’m not sure about him with [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f]. [name_m]Forest[/name_m] [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] would be great :red_apple::herb:

[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] & [name_m]Solomon[/name_m] → [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] & [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] go the best with E, but I like all of them for you! [name_f]Shiloh[/name_f] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] is so lovely.

[name_m]Judah[/name_m], [name_m]Jude[/name_m] → [name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_m]Judah[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] but I actually prefer the flow of [name_m]Jude[/name_m] [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] :four_leaf_clover: also like [name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] & [name_m]Forest[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m]

[name_m]Herschel[/name_m] → I’m not mad about him but he does fit so well in your list! [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] [name_m]Wells[/name_m] is v cute

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] → love love love [name_m]Wilder[/name_m]!

[name_m]Earnest[/name_m] → he is so cute! And I actually quite like the shared initial with E, although I guess you would be setting yourself up for a themed initial sibset! [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] is gorgeous, as is [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] :red_apple:

i hear what you’re saying with [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. maybe [name_m]Thorin[/name_m], instead. he seems to pair really well with [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f], at least in my mind! :herb:

and i feel like you’re totally getting how i see [name_m]Solomon[/name_m]. artsy, folksy, and especially with nickname ā€œSollyā€, a playful old-soul. :wood:

thank you for your kind words on [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m], and i adore your suggestion [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]! that is so handsome :white_heart:

ooh, i didn’t see that with [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], but he is a great honor for [name_f]Willa[/name_f], [name_m]Rivers[/name_m], and [name_f]Wren[/name_f], too :white_heart:

[name_m]Augustine[/name_m], nickname ā€œAugustā€ is great! i adore ā€œAugieā€, and my husband loves ā€œGusā€

thank you so much for your kind words on our choices and lovely suggestions. you’re just the best, [name_m]Kit[/name_m]! :face_holding_back_tears:

i wholeheartedly agree… and pairing with a baby brother [name_m]Rowan[/name_m]? be still my heart! :face_holding_back_tears:

thank you for your kind words on [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m]. this is probably the most likely choice. though i’ve been considering the different options of [name_m]Wells[/name_m], for the hymn ā€œIt Is Well With My Soulā€ and water connection, and [name_m]Jude[/name_m], for [name_m]Saint[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] and the ā€œpraiseā€ meaning, my heart always comes back to [name_m]John[/name_m] for our future little man. :light_blue_heart:

[name_m]Wilder[/name_m] [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] and [name_m]Oakley[/name_m] [name_m]Herschel[/name_m] are so sweet. i love the animal middle name to match Elowyn’s, which means ā€œewe.ā€ :ewe:

this is my husband’s argument, so i totally see what you mean

for some reason, i don’t have quite as much particularity about our children’s names together. i could see [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f] and [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] with siblings [name_m]Oakley[/name_m], [name_m]Wilder[/name_m], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Fern[/name_f], [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m], etc, so easily! :white_heart:

i love the idea of [name_m]August[/name_m]. [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] and [name_m]August[/name_m] [name_m]Rowan[/name_m] would pair so well with Elowyn’s name! i agree that [name_m]Silas[/name_m] feels perfect for a woodsy baby brother, and i love the idea of [name_m]Earnest[/name_m] [name_m]Jude[/name_m] and his meaning. thank you, friend! :evergreen_tree:
