I am just about 90% decided on [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] because I really like it and it continues the generations-long tradition in my family of naming the women [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or a form of it. It’s all in this thread I posted a while ago: Nameberry - Welcome to the Nameberry Forums
However, I feel slightly concerned that maybe going with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be sort of like cheating…
Also, I could really use some Middle Name suggestions that make [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] more unique, stand-out or simply give [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] a bit of wow-factor since it’s increasingly growing in popularity. The names on my list were [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Agnes[/name_f], [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] and [name_f]Willow[/name_f], but I don’t think they fit with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f].
I adore the name [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and think it’s a really good way to use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], I wouldn’t say it was cheating at all! I’ve just listed combinations that came into my head - I do like the idea of [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] but I agree that the others you were considering don’t really seem to fit.
I’ve tried to use a wide variety of style/lengths/sounds so that you can see which sounds best to you. I’d personally not use anything starting with a vowel because it’ll blend into the end of the first name, though a hard O could work because it’s such a strong and separate sound. I think avoiding a name ending in another A is a good idea too, to help with the flow of the combination, probably endings with a consonant, O or EE sounds would work well. I hope I’ve helped.

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]! I also have an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] tradition in my family like yours and I am considering [name_f]Elza[/name_f] and [name_f]Elspeth[/name_f] as a way to continue it either in the first or second spot. I don’t think using [name_f]Elza[/name_f] is cheating at all, I think using a variation is a great way to homage and also give her something that is her own. Plus there are so many great variations, why not have some fun with it?
I think a name starting with a consonant not ending in a would flow best. I think a classic name with a vintage feel would pair nicely with it, that is why I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f].
I agree that [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] works, and I also like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] from pps. I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a nice choice and a clear honor name from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
I really like the idea of more out there names with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] would make a brilliant combo. Other suggestions:
I think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] is a beautiful, classic name. It is probably still riding a [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m]-inspired popularity increase, but it is such a strong name and the association is so positive I wouldn’t worry about it.
I know that you love the idea of [name_f]Diana[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] as a name for a future daughter, so I am inclined to suggest unusual flower-themed names to go along with [name_f]Eliza[/name_f]. That way you have a built in connection between your daughters if you ever have a second, and if not you still have a lovely name for this little one. My suggestions are:
Of those my favorites are [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Posy[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Primrose[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Lavender[/name_f]. Each middle name is unexpected and unusual, but without being odd or tacky.
I love [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] as a combination and I’d advise against holding [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] in reserve for a possible second daughter…if you love [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], use it now! If a second daughter does come along, you’ll find an amazing name for her, but cross that bridge when you come to it.
I adore the name [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], it’s been my favourite girls name for a very, very long time! I definitely don’t feel like it’s cheating for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is lovely (Based on my signature I might be a bit biased here…)
Thank you for easening my worries guys. I loved [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Magnolia[/name_f], [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]. I’ll have to think about [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f]. I love it, but my heart was set on using it for a future second daughter.
Out of all the middle names mentioned my favorites have been the long ones. Would love if you could keep giving me suggestions!
After only reading the title of this forum the first middle name that came to mind was [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. Seeing now that it was already on your list I think it would be a perfect name! [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Willow[/name_f]. It looks beautiful and I don’t think there’s any problem with the flow.
