A middle name for Victoria?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there! [name_f]My[/name_f] little girl (second child) is due soon, and we still aren’t 100% sure on her name.

[name_f][/name_f]

Our first choice now is [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. We love that it sounds both romantic and strong, is international (my husband and I are [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] and work in international environments in the Netherlands), and we think it goes well with her older brother’s name [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. Our only concern is the length of the name; in the Netherlands many will shorten it to [name_m]Vic[/name_m] on a daily basis. But maybe that’s okay, I’m starting to learn that no name is 100% perfect :upside_down_face:

[name_f][/name_f]

In any case, we are searching for a middle name that balances out the regal/serious vibe of [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. Preferably something that is a bit more sweet and simple, that is easily pronounced in [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] and [name_f]English[/name_f].
[name_f][/name_f]We have shortlisted [name_f]Fleur[/name_f], [name_f]Luna[/name_f], and [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but we’re not sure what suits best. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] feels a bit too regency-romance-novel? On the other hand, [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] may be clashing style-wise? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have any other suggestions?

[name_f][/name_f]

FYI: Our list for the first name also still includes [name_f]Rosemarijn[/name_f] (we live in the Netherlands, [name_f]Rosemarijn[/name_f] is the [name_m]Dutch[/name_m] variation of [name_f]Rosemary[/name_f], its pronounciation rhymes with Caroline), [name_f]Lisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]. I’m hoping that when we meet the baby, we’ll either feel much more confident that [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] suits her, OR that another shortlisted name is the better option.

Your naming approach sounds really solid. I agree that in most situations, there isn’t a name that is perfect from every angle and a name doesn’t need to be perfect for it to be the best choice.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is a terrific choice and you have wonderful back-up options. I like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] the most from your middle names. So classic and dignified. I wouldn’t have thought of regency romance novels – that sounds rather niche. It’s a timeless combination so it’s not too anything.

[name_f][/name_f]

I see what you mean about [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] being different styles. [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] also softens [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]. I think they can work together, they’re just not a natural pairing like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] and [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. Sometimes unexpected pairings are the most enjoyable. It just depends if you like the vibes. Since middle names aren’t used as often as first names, style and flow can be lower priorities.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] shortened to [name_m]Vic[/name_m] makes sense, we have a similar culture in Australia, but if [name_m]Vic[/name_m] isn’t your kind of thing you could lead with a nickname of your choosing instead. A few ideas that are still quite intuitive: [name_f]Vi[/name_f], [name_f]Vivi[/name_f], [name_f]Vita[/name_f], [name_f]Vica[/name_f].

I adore [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] also flows very well.

[name_f][/name_f]

If you dont care for [name_m]Vic[/name_m] as a nickname could you use [name_f]Tori[/name_f] instead?

[name_f][/name_f]

Here are some other MN options (not sure if these would work in Dutch)

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is simple, sweet and elegant [name_f][/name_f]- I don’t think it feels too regency-romance (I’ve met a [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] and wouldn’t have thought it was too much).

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] is beautiful [name_f][/name_f]- bright and sleek and arty.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Luna[/name_f] is quite nice [name_f][/name_f]- balanced but not my favourite.

What about [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]?

Victoria is one of my all time favorites -
you literally can put ANY middle name with it
and it would be gorgeous - old style Diane is very
lovely - someone suggested that - but Rose and
Fleur are lovely too ( not usually a fan of Fleur, but
with Victoria, it is awesome ) Tori is a popular nn in the US

Victoria is beautiful! Victoria Rose is very classic, but also very sweet! I don’t think it’s too regency novel at all. It is very classic, though, so if you’re wanting something a little more interesting, Victoria Fleur might be a better option. I don’t think it clashes style-wise at all! Rosemarijn isn’t very simple or short lol but I do like Victoria Rosemarijn! And that feels less regency novel.

Victoria Luna works well although I don’t love the flow as much as Victoria Fleur or Victoria Rose. I think Victoria Lise/Victoria Lis might be super sweet as well, reminiscent of your other option Lisa? I’ve always loved Liese/Liesey/Lis as a nn option for Anneliese.

Here’s a few other suggestions:

Victoria Tess
Victoria Noor
Victoria Zoe
Victoria Maeve
Victoria Liv
Victoria Lotte
Victoria Bo
Victoria Esme
Victoria Chloe
Victoria Fenna
Victoria Romy
Victoria Merel (I am minorly obsessed with Merel haha)
Victoria Vera
Victoria Vieve
Victoria Philou
Victoria Freya
Victoria Jacinthe

Good luck!

ETA: I’m also not keen on Vic but I think there are other options for nicknames that are really lovely - Rora and Vivi are my favorites but I think Via, Tia, Tori, Cora, Corrie, etc. could work too?

Congratulations!

I think your approach to naming is really realistic no name is entirely perfect and that realisation is very helpful. Victoria is a lovely name very classic with a reliable timeless feel. I also know (as a Victoria) you can persist with her just being known as Victoria rather than a nickname. I am Victoria the majority of the time so I wouldn’t be overly concerned about Vic. You could also use Tori, Rory or Vi as a nickname instead. I also love how great Victoria sounds with T0bias very classic.

I love Victoria Rose she’s rather effortless and ties in another favourite of yours with Rose feeling related to your other top contender of Rosemarjin. I think Victoria Rose feels grounded whilst only have subtle romantic novelist tones but not overly done. She’s very pretty.

Victoria Fleur feels more unexpected and quirky but I really like this flair and I think she’s fun! Victoria Fleur is very pretty and feels more international.

Victoria Luna feels fashionable and in keeping with the current trends. She’s pretty with a starry Hollywood feel. I like her but she isn’t my favourite.

Hope this helps

We call my sister [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] “Torie” which is a nod to our Scandinavian roots.

[name_f][/name_f]

I like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Helen[/name_f] works best.

I love [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. That would be my first choice among your options.

Of the [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] combinations, I like [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] the best. It’s both elegant and unexpected. [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] is very regal and probably looks the best, but I don’t love the repeat Rs so close to each other.

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is great with [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] and on its own. Australia is also a nickname culture, and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] might get [name_m]Vic[/name_m] but also [name_f]Tori[/name_f], [name_m]Rory[/name_m], Vee or [name_f]Vy[/name_f]. I prefer these to [name_m]Vic[/name_m] (which is a bit harsh). You could call her [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f] and nn [name_f]Vivi[/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]My[/name_f] [name_m]French[/name_m] family friend called [name_f]Victoria[/name_f], gets Vicu which is cute. Oh, and another cool nickname for [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] is “Plum” (from the variety of plums called the [name_f]Victoria[/name_f] plum).

[name_f][/name_f]

Re the others on your list, as an [name_f]English[/name_f] speaker, [name_f]Lisa[/name_f] is dated (it’s very 1970s-80s) [name_f][/name_f]- could [name_f]Elise[/name_f] work in [name_m]Dutch[/name_m]? [name_f][/name_f]- and [name_f]Rosemarijn[/name_f] is lovely but will trip up most non-Dutchies trying to say it. So my fave of the the other [name_f][/name_f]- and anyway [name_f][/name_f]- is the confident and pretty, [name_f]Fleur[/name_f]. [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] & [name_f]Fleur[/name_f] are a very swish pair!
