Hello!
I just posted a board on the boy’s names forum, but we need help with our girls list, too!
A friend from yoga class told me to check out Nameberry for baby naming help, which is exactly what we need!
My husband and I are expecting another addition to the Darling family (yes, our last name is Darling!) in [name]August[/name].
We’re decided to keep the gender a surprise for everyone, including ourselves!
We have two children, [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Grey[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Lilac[/name].
We both have a love for classic names and would love to keep that trend going with #3. We also would like a nature/word/virtue name in the middle!
Our list of girl names so far:
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] (I love this one! My husband needs some convincing.)
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Julia[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Winifred[/name] (Is it bad to love this one so much?)
[name]Harriet[/name] ([name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Hattie[/name])
[name]Charlotte[/name] (Hubby’s fav. A bit too popular for me.)
Hello and welcome. I adore your childrens’ names. From your list, I think these would sound the nicest with [name]Rupert[/name] & [name]Eleanor[/name]:
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Edith[/name]
[name]Beatrice[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Winifred[/name]-not bad at all, refreshing and sweet, love [name]Winnie[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name]-[name]Hattie[/name] is an adorable nn
[name]Adelaide[/name] - I’m not sure if its mimicry of [name]Eleanor[/name]'s three syllables works perfectly or too closely. If you call her [name]Addie[/name], is [name]Addie[/name] Darling too many Ds close together? Maybe it’s fine…
[name]Margaret[/name] - I find [name]Margaret[/name] Darling quite “ar” heavy.
[name]Josephine[/name] - a little clunkier than [name]Eleanor[/name], and I don’t think the -phine ending sounds as great with -ling
[name]Edith[/name] - if the two-names-sharing-a-first-letter thing doesn’t bother you, then this could be sweet. [name]Ellie[/name] and [name]Edie[/name] are a bit close…
[name]Catherine[/name] - perfect!
[name]Virginia[/name] - convince away–I think [name]Virginia[/name] is a great addition, and [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Ginny[/name] should you want a nickname…
[name]Susannah[/name] - feels less British to me, but I like the name
[name]Julia[/name] - I like this pretty well
[name]Beatrice[/name] - fabulous
[name]Winifred[/name] - I like [name]Winifred[/name] a lot, and [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Winnie[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name] ([name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Hattie[/name]) - I think this name would fit in well
[name]Charlotte[/name] - I agree with you–too popular…
Because your last name is already so sweet, I would personally avoid some of the cutesier, overly girly middle options, like [name]Tulip[/name], [name]Petal[/name], and [name]Blossom[/name], in favor of stronger middles. I also think that [name]Patience[/name] is one of the tougher virtue names to live with, esp. if one turns out to be anything but…
[name]Beatrice[/name] [name]Ruby[/name] Darling
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] Darling (since [name]Virginia[/name] is a place, too, some of the more place-related middles sound like a location…even [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Clover[/name] sounds a bit like a type of clover to me, haha)
[name]Catherine[/name] [name]Mercy[/name] Darling (seconding the pp!)
[name]Harriet[/name] [name]Wren[/name] Darling
[name]Winifred[/name] [name]Meadow[/name] Darling or [name]Winifred[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] Darling
[name]Julia[/name] [name]Wren[/name] Darling
What about [name]Felicity[/name]? [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] is lovely, too!
Hello I must say that your children have stunning names! [name]Rupert[/name] has been a love of mine for a long time and I absolutely love [name]Lilac[/name] teamed with [name]Eleanor[/name].
My favourites from your list:
[name]Adelaide[/name], this is a beautiful name and I like the combo of [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Patience[/name]. I have one reservation though do you call [name]Eleanor[/name] by the nn of [name]Elle[/name]? If so an [name]Adele[/name] and an [name]Elle[/name] may be too matchy
[name]Catherine[/name] This is a standout for me, as it encompasses strength and feminity and it is a beautiful complement to [name]Rupert[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]. I also love the nn of [name]Kate[/name] and my daughter’s mn is [name]Kate[/name] but I never tire of this name, and the meaning of purity is particularly lovely. The combo I like is [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Meadow[/name] it is very sweet and nurturing, it’s very appealing.
[name]Virginia[/name] I think that this is a good match particularly with [name]Eleanor[/name] but I would probably not put it first on my list. My combo would be [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] because the matter of fact [name]Virginia[/name] but I feel needs an airy fairy middle to complement it.
[name]Susannah[/name] This is a truly lovely name, feminine, fun, a vintage classic and lovely with [name]Rupert[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]. I like [name]Susannah[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] as it is so very soft and feminine.
[name]Julia[/name] Isn’t [name]Julia[/name] a gem? [name]Julia[/name], [name]Rupert[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] - perfect. As a nod to [name]Winifred[/name] I think the combo of [name]Julia[/name] [name]Wynn[/name] would be quite lovely. I almost like [name]Julia[/name] [name]Clover[/name] but feel something is missing. I think [name]Julia[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] encompasses the true feeling of the sibset, soft, feminine, timeless and classic
My favorites from your list with your sibset and last name are: [name]Edith[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Julia[/name], [name]Winifred[/name], and [name]Harriet[/name]. Although it doesn’t strictly fit with your theme, [name]Julia[/name] [name]Margaret[/name] is one of my favorite combinations.
Some other possibilities for fns:
[name]Rupert[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], and [name]Louisa[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], and [name]Clementine[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], and [name]Lavinia[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], and [name]Philippa[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], and [name]Victoria[/name]
[name]Rupert[/name], [name]Eleanor[/name], and [name]Regina[/name]
I love your kids names too! [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Lilac[/name] was actually on our list at one point, but our last name starts with a C so the ending for [name]Lilac[/name] was a little strange sounding.
I hope you can convince your husband of [name]Virginia[/name]! I love this one and [name]Ginny[/name] or [name]Ginger[/name] as a nn. Actually strike that, your signature says you have redheads. That might be a little too much for [name]Ginger[/name]. [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Clover[/name] is a cool combo
I like [name]Harriet[/name] too and think she works well in your sib-set. I don’t care for [name]Blossom[/name] in the middle though.
Your children have gorgeous names. I love them both, so cute!
My favourites from your list:
[name]Adelaide[/name]: This is a very good fit with your other children. It is classy, without being overly popular. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Addie[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]: This is also cute and a good match, but it seems a bit too popular, at least it is in my area. [name]Virginia[/name]: This is my favourite of your fn choices. Its sweet, cute and classy. [name]Love[/name] the nn [name]Ginny[/name]
[name]Ruby[/name]: This is absolutely lovely. And pairs well with a lot of names
[name]Mercy[/name]: I love this too. Cute and sweet.
[name]Tulip[/name]: [name]Unique[/name]! And it definitely matches your other daughters mn well
[name]Wren[/name]: Usually I prefer this for a boy. But I think it fits well with your other names
Combos with your names:
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name] [name]Tulip[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name] [name]Mercy[/name]
Other names to consider:
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] ([name]Cara[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mia[/name])
[name]Harmony[/name]
[name]Ophelia[/name] ([name]Lia[/name])
[name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name] ([name]Rose[/name])
Some more combos:
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Ruby[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name] [name]Tulip[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Caroline[/name] [name]Mercy[/name]
The point made about [name]Adelaide[/name] being too close to [name]Eleanor[/name] is a good point. [name]Eleanor[/name] is called [name]Ellie[/name] a lot, and the ‘[name]Adele[/name]’ part is too similar. Someone on our boys board pointed out that one of our picks ([name]Theodore[/name]) was too close to [name]Eleanor[/name], and I’m do glad they did! So thank you!
I’m so happy that [name]Virginia[/name] is getting so much love! I love the nickname [name]Ginny[/name], and the suggestion of [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] is amazing! I couldn’t think of a more perfect combo! Now to sway my husband!
I also love the suggestions of [name]Winifred[/name] [name]Clover[/name], [name]Caroline[/name] [name]Mercy[/name] (Hubby loves it!), [name]Catherine[/name] [name]Tulip[/name], and [name]Philippa[/name] [name]Verity[/name] ([name]Philip[/name] is on our boys list but [name]Philippa[/name] is lovely!).
I love your children’s names–I’ve always been a sucker for [name]Rupert[/name], and [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Lilac[/name] is just enchanting!
From the list you have already, my favourites are (in order):
[name]Winifred[/name]
[name]Virginia[/name]
[name]Julia[/name]
[name]Adelaide[/name]
[name]Harriet[/name]
And I love mns:
[name]Meadow[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Clover[/name]
[name]Petal[/name]
[name]Tulip[/name]
[name]Wren[/name]
And for suggestions…
FN:
Anneliese
Cordelia
Rosemary
Hmm, maybe I am not seeing it, but I don’t think [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Adelaide[/name] is too close at all. [name]Love[/name] [name]Winifred[/name] [name]Clover[/name] and [name]Virginia[/name] [name]Blythe[/name]
And, I think [name]Adelaide[/name] would be just gorgeous with [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Rupert[/name].
A few other suggestions for a little girl would be: [name]Cecelia[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Clara[/name] or [name]Vera[/name].
I [name]LOVE[/name] your names (including your last name! swoon!). Congratulations on [name]Baby[/name] #3. I just have to have some fun playing around with your wonderful lists!
My faves over all to go with [name]Rupert[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name]:
[name]Adelaide[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], [name]Edith[/name], [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Beatrice[/name], and [name]Winifred[/name] (Absolute faves are [name]Adelaide[/name] and [name]Winifred[/name]!!!)
[name]Just[/name] posted on your boys thread, thought i would help over here as well!
I suggested [name]Clement[/name] for a boy, but i think [name]Clemence[/name]/[name]Clemency[/name] for a girl is even better! I saw this in the Telegraph birth announcements and i fell hard for the name - familiar but far enought away from [name]Clementine[/name] that it is different/unexpected. I suppose if [name]Cleo[/name] could be a nickname from [name]Clementine[/name], then it could would for [name]Clemence[/name] or [name]Clemency[/name] as well. When i hear this name, i think of [name]Clemence[/name] [name]Poesy[/name], an actress. [name]How[/name] perfect is that combo? If you like [name]Plum[/name], then [name]Clemency[/name] [name]Plum[/name] could be the PERFECT fit with [name]Rupert[/name] [name]Gray[/name] and [name]Eleanor[/name] [name]Lilac[/name]. I am seriously swooning! [name]Rue[/name], [name]Ellie[/name] & [name]Cleo[/name]. Done and done.
